I thought I'd get this started while I try to get the video uploaded. There are spots I'm not sure what she says and we all know my hearing is not the best, but I tried!! Here are the lyrics as I hear them. what I wasn't sure about are in parenthesis or a questiong mark and ___ for what I have NO clue about!
Inspired by her cousin's speech which referenced Sylvia Plath's poem that included a rain drop on a leaf (beauty in nature), and for her friend contemplating divorce
are the echos coming back to you
is wisdom seeing patterns on the walls (?)
___around you
you believe in colors
when i saw you
catching velvet on the moonlight
have you lost your constellations
_____ time
i wish i could be there
wish i could make it right
don't you worry you'll soon ____ (on the moon or move?)
that's no trick that flicker ____
you'll feel like lucky darling
I'm sure of it
figure it out and get good again
na na na na na
slow mo ride the hills are green
golden dust and dandelion ___ (seem)?
about sourcery (?)
always been so long
since fall is so serene
it's been so long
don't you worry you'll soon be ____ (alright again)?
that"s no trick that flicker ____ (beneath the wind)?
you'll feel like lucky darling
i promise you this
you'll figure it out and get good again
na na na na na
you said ____ you don't feel free
no it's not true but i know what you mean
wanted to thank you for being so good to me
i just wanted you to know
are the echos coming back to you
is wisdom seeing patterns on the wall ___(flicker) around you
we'll look out for each other
I'll look out for you
we'll look out for each other
don't you worry you'll soon be ____ (on the moon)?
that's no trick that flicker ____
you'll feel lucky darling I'm sure of it
figure it out yeah we'll get good again
I'll figure it out (and then we'll get) good again ?
I'll figure it out and get good again
a dream
dandelion fields in a dream
dandelion fields in a dream
sorry if it's a tease, but I wanted to give you something while you wait!!
-
Poetic. I really look forward on hearing it. Excited. (: Thanks.
-
god, i can't wait to hear it. there's a whole world inside my head spinning around these lyrics hahahah.
thanks sarab :)
-
a new song? a-w-e-s-o-m-e 8)
-
So excited to hear this! I love love love the lyrics. This is going to be my Carousel, I think. The song from the album that I just absolutely fall in love with.
-
Sounds amazing! I'm a little disappointed 3 of the songs off the new album seem to be of verrry similar writing structure though
FWF, Carousel, and Get good

I know I'm sorry! But I thought I'd give you guys something I have a pretty busy couple of days ahead of me (I'm at work now) but I am going to try try try to get at least this song up and running.
I didn't realize they were all similar, probably because I don't really write poems or songs. I think each one has a very different style to is musically though. For instance, she doesn't play the piano in this one. They are still amazing even if they are similar structurally!
-
I think the similarity is what makes her new songs thematic. And as a writer, I guess she has this one inspiration. One source. But in my opinion, they all sound unique. (Though I admit that I speculate that maybe the reason why she changed the key of Fair-Weather Friends to A Major is that it sounded very similar with Carousel in key of C Major.)

I think she did that to reach more easily the high notes in the chorus.
-
Yes, maybe that's it.
And I just want to hear this right now. But maybe I can still wait a little more.
-
Uploading to my facebook now, maybe KULP can get it from there. It seemed the easiest way through my Flip Share. I could have done it to you tube as well, but I feel like I want to covet this song for us nessaholics...is that selfish?
-
That's great. Can I add you in Facebook?

yay! Make it public so we all can listen? :DD Oh and btw, you can put things private in youtube and just accesible through url too :)
-
Kulp put the link over in the western carolina university thread it's ready for downloading!
-
My heart's pumping. ;D
-
Thanks you Sarab and Kulp! TOTALLY love the song, now I think I can start to really feel the direction this album is taking and it will probably be ma favorite!!!!!! "Get Good" is something very fresh, I like the fact that's on guitar. Funny when I'm listening to it, I picture it being on the soundtrack of some chick flick starring someone like Katherine Heigl and the song plays at the part when she and her boyfriend break up and you see them moving on with their lifes before the eventually go back together lol.
Sarab have a I already said thanks?? :)

I know, right? Sarab is a hero!
And yes, I can picture the song doing well mainstream. But whether it becomes a hit or not to the mainstream, I don't care.
What I know is that this one's beautiful.
And ROTR would surely be her best. I can feel it.

here we go, lyrics, typed out by me.
Are the echoes coming back to you?
Is wisdom seeing patterns on the gloom?
That rope around you
And you will be the colors, when I saw you
Put your velvet on the moonlight
Or have you lost your constellation eyes?
You will get good in time
And I wish I could be there
Wish I could make it right
And don't you worry, you'll soon be off limits
And that's no trick, that flicker of radiance
And you'll feel lucky, darling, I'm sure of it
We'll figure it out and get good again
Na na na na na na, Na na na na na na na
A slow-mo run and there's a breeze
A golden dust, a dandelion sea, a bout of sorcery
I know it's been so long, since fall is so serene
I know it's been so long
And don't you worry, you'll soon be off limits
And that's no trick, that flicker of radiance
And you'll feel lucky, darling, I promise you this
We'll figure it out and get good again
Na na na na na na, Na na na na na na na
You said you don't know why you don't feel free
No, it's not true, but I know what you think
I want to thank you for being so good to me
I just wanted you to know
Are the echoes coming back to you?
Is wisdom seeing patterns on the gloom?
That rope around you
And we'll look out for each other and I'll look out for you
And we'll look out for each other
And don't you worry, you'll soon be off limits
And that's no trick, that flicker of radiance
And you'll feel lucky, darling, I'm sure of it
We'll figure it out, yeah, we'll get good again
Well I feel good, I will never get good again
Well I feel good, I'll -- get good again
Na na na na na, Na na na na na
In a dream, with dandelion fields
In a dream, with dandelion fields
In a dream
-
Thanks for doing this Kulpy, again! You are thee best at it!
-
Hmm, i think se sings
"And don't you worry, you'll soon be on the mend"?
-
I love the lyrics, they are so poetic and beautiful. But i can't bring myself to listen to the song as i really want the thrill of listening to them on the record.
But that file is just begging to be listened to, i don't think i actually have the restraint to not listen to it.
Thank you so much for recording and uploading, i really hope you had a wonderful evening.
-
unimpressed the first time, but climbs in my regard every time i hear it. definitely a grower!
is it weird that i get a beatles feel from this?
i am pretty sure i hear:
"have you lost your constellation eyes?"
"don’t you worry, you’ll soon be on the mend
that’s no trick, that flicker of radiance"
"a bout of suffering"
-
It's not weird. I'm the same. I think Abbey Road Studios rubbed a bit of its magic onto her! ;)

right about those 2, changed.
also I figured out its "you'll soon be off limits"
-
The song i def a grower. Some parts are a bit similar to Mandy Moores "Bug" from her latest album. I hope the the production will be as simple. It will fit the song.
-
I think it's
"Is wisdom seeing patterns on the gloom? -- That rope around you"

That's what I heard too

Thanks for the record Sarab! Thanks for the lyrics too :) I've heard it once but the guitar gives a great rhythm, want to hear the album version >.<
-
Hey, I'm new here ;D
I just downloaded the song, and I LOVE it!!
The lyrics are beautiful. It's kind of different from her other stuff because it has the guitar, instead of piano. But it's really nice anyway!
Thanks so much for the recording!!

I agree it is different with the guitar but I like the sound with just guitar. It's so raw sounding :)
Oh yeah, who do you guys think her friend is? I think it could be Avril, cause she's going through a devorce, right?
-
Yeah, I agree, the guitar sounds great with it.
And Vanessa is friends with Avril? I didn't know that..
But that could make sense, yeah, I heard she's getting a divorce.

i think she is, they've done that love revolution stuff together for kohl's.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that!
So yeah, they could be friends, and that could be who Vanessa wrote the song for.
-
Just because they worked on a commercial together doesn't mean they're friends. It's work.
The only "celebrity" friend I know of is Julia Stiles (aside from Stevie, Irv and Stephen). I don't even think the person she's talking about is a celebrity but just a "normal" friend.
-
http://imdb.com/name/nm1216062/trivia
One of the trivia facts is that she is good friends with Avril Lavigne.
-
If they are friends, they probably met making the commercial.
Maybe the song isn't about her, it's just an idea. I'm not sure if I think it really is.

Thank you so much for the audio! I couldn't say it is my favourite new song, though. However, I think the last verse gives the song all its value and magic.
-
This is definitely my new favorite song! So excited for it, I am in love!
-
I couldn't help but giggle at the "na na na's" being back in this song. Thanks for the song and the lyric transcription. :)

Thank you so much Sara for the upload, have just listened to the song now, it is still very much Vanessa sounding I think, can't wait to hear the produced album version.
Is it possible she still wrote the song on the piano, but it was decided they would go with the guitar at the gig?
-

I doubt it.. I think she probably would have played piano with it if she had piano for it. I think it sounds really good with just the guitar, but who knows..the studio version could have piano on it. I'm sure it will sound great either way.

I've been MIA the past few days, but I'm glad to be back.
After hearing Get Good, I am definitely sensing that this will be Vanessa's best album. I really do think so. The song reminds me of Spring with grass blowing on the hills; kind of like the opening scene of the Sound of Music. The album definitely will have a spring theme to it... but I'm not sure if that is something she meant to do.

I also think (and I think have posted elsewhere) that this is going to be a huge album. I just think the public is more open to hearing different things since it's more of the same all the time out there. I also think the style/writing is more accessable to people - meaning the content isn't as obscure (so far) as compared to Harmonium. On one hand, I'd be really excited for her but on the other I'd be a little upset that the secret is out! I like having her to ourselves so to speak so that the public doesn't defile her!

I agree! It's nice sometimes to not have her be all over.

I changed some things again, check my post on page 2 for the edits.
theres still a few things i'm not too sure on, but we're getting closer.

The video will be up in Youtube in few minutes...
-
I like the melody, but the lyrics make absolutely NO sense to me. I think I'll like it better once I know what the hell she's saying. If it makes the album, that is.
-
Thanks for posting the link and the lyrics transcription. I've been away from these boards for a while.
I am looking forward to hearing new music from Vanessa!
-
What does the "Is wisdom seeing patterns on the gloom" line means?
-
I don't know, but V mentioned that it's about her friend contemplating on what wisdom is.
-
I know I have said this a few times, but the lyrics to this song are just unbelievably beautiful!! <3
-
There are two things that Vanessa is secretly good at - humming and Na Na Na - ing.
Love it.
Love the Dandelion fields bit! Very akin to 'Kings under Lavender skies' from Bride.
But thank you sarab for the recording and Andrew as always the appreciation toward your efforts on decoding lyrics goes without saying... But lemme just say it -THANK YOU! :D

Haha! ( NA na na -ing) Definitely. I love the nature references too (the dandelions, for example and moonlight.)
-
Epiphany: The line about the sorcery although all sexy and metaphorically magical and purely a Vanessa inspired thingamajiggy word... I think it's "above the suffering"?
Though why would she be bothered about the Dandelion fields and the suffering or the sorcery for that matter?
Kulp habibi, care to consider?

i am sticking to it's "a bout of suffering"
we will see?

I love this song! I definitely get a Beatles vibe from this song, too. Makes me want to run around in a field of dandelions. :)
-
i hate to be that guy, but i kinda hate it... I hope it has more piano in the recorded version...
-

lol, we all don't have to agree I guess. I also would like piano on the song. and more violins rather than guitar.

agreed

hate the song??? really? thats a strong word. i mean, you can not like it, but hate? id would love some piano too ofcourse, its what she does best afterall and im sure that the recorded version will have some but if not, i seriously wouldn't mind. It's kind of unfair not liking a song cause its "pianoless" ;D

I'm glad there's no piano on it. It's different.

I don't see how anyone can hate this song! Even without any piano, I really like it! ;D
I would like some piano in the studio version though, but I do like the guitar.
-
i really disliked it too, at first.
like the other song written on guitar, i thought it was too simplistic, melody too repetitive, and in my opinion "get good" didn't have the same charm "bride" did. and it's not the same instantaneous
then i had an awful day. then i really felt the comfort value of "get good" and it's been getting better ever since...
i dunno, it grows.
-
I definitely think that this is one of the growers. But the melody and the humming/na-na-na part is indeed beautiful.
-
I think the last verse goes like this:
Well I'll figure it out and then we'll get good again
Well I'll figure it out and get good again
Na na na na na, Na na na na na
In a dream, a dandelion fields in a dream,
A dandelion fields in a dream

Hate: meaning I have a passionate dislike for this song. This is the first of her songs that I don't immediately connect with, I even connected to MAKELOVETOME when IRV played it for me an Gishy. I mean I would rather listen to Nichole337 than this song.
The reason i dislike it is NOT because it is pianoless... but given the choice I enjoy her piano playing more than her singing alone, together it is great. I don't like the song in this format it feels empty and I am sure this is one that just may sound better recorded than live.

Hahahah I thought the samee at firs but now its my fav. song cause i passed the samee that she says in the song ;D

I think it's
"Is wisdom seeing patterns on the gloom? -- That rope around you"
I think the lyrics are....and only because she's already making pattern references are:
Is wisdom seeing patterns on a loom that wrap around you
You weave the colors when I saw you..
-
What is a loom? :-\

ooo I like. A loom is something you weave blankets/cloth with. At least that is what I think of. Like Indians and old timey ways of sewing.

Ah I thought it sounded familiar! Thanks for explaining
-
Having heard the new recording of Get Good, could it be "Is wisdom seeing patterns on a rune?"
-
Wow! That's so Celtic! Besides, 'patterns' would make sense on a 'rune.'
-
"That's no trick, that flicker of radiance." - love this line.
-

water on a leaf that glistens. it is a very great line.
-
has someone already done the lyrics from the 1.30 minute snippets?
i think the second verse is really different from what we have haha
-
Anybody know what she says at around 0:40 on the 1:30 sec previews?? I can't make it out for the life of me
-
it sounds like..not english. the way she
"hills are green "
makes me think of Ireland...any Irish fans think she is speaking Irish here? lol!
-
Anybody know what she says at around 0:40 on the 1:30 sec previews?? I can't make it out for the life of me
Sounds like "Oh it's been so long, so powder soft, serene"
Based off the itunes and Amazon snippets:
…moonlight
Or have you lost your constellation eyes
Well, you could give it time
I wish I could be there, wish I could make it right
Don't you worry, you'll soon be on the mend
And that's no trick, that flicker (fleck?) of radiance
And you'll feel lucky, darling, I'm sure of it
You'll figure it out and get good again
Na na na…
Stone wall, running, hills of green
Golden dust and dandelion scene (sea?)
The powder soft, serene
Oh it's been so long
Since powder soft, serene
Yeah, it's been so long
But don't you worry, you'll soon be on the mend
And that's no trick, that flicker (fleck?) of radiance
And you'll feel lucky, darling, I promise you this
You'll figure it out and get good again
Na na na…
You said you don't know why you don't feel free
No it's not true but I know what you mean…
-
When I first heard the live performance of this song, I really didn't like it that much. But then slowly it started getting stuck in my head, and then when I heard the preview on Amazon I just fell in love. It's so chill and serene and beautiful. "Have you lost your constellation eyes?" is like... brilliance. The iTunes preview just sealed the deal. This is one of my favorites.
-
maybe she says dendilion seed? I like more sea but tbh, thats what i heard right now xd
-

I agree. It's 'seed' to me too.
And I think it's 'Stonewall run' instead of 'running.'

-
Really really REAALLY loving this song right now.
-
Now that it's pointed out, I definitely hear "seed" as well
-
This song is really helping me through some crappy times right now. I've always found that, whenever times are tough, Vanessa has the perfect song for the moment. But I really wish the album was coming out this week so I could get my hands on the studio version...
-
Now that it's pointed out, I definitely hear "seed" as well
yes. I picture when the dandelions go from the yellow to the puffy white and you can blow off the seeds. I just picture a field with a sky full of the white fluffy stuff floating around
-
I guess it IS dandelion seed. If you check google images for dandelion seed (I'm to lazy to add a picture :P), it's like the thing the spec was on,on which the Whos from "Horton hears a Who" lived.
Someone catching my drift?
I mean it isn't just ordinary "seeds" like the grainy ones.
They're kinda poetic. :P
-
I always heard seed.
This is my second most played song on the album. I looove it!

In that context it makes "powder soft serene" make a lot more sense too!

that's what I was thinking too. Even though I'm not entirely convinced, it does make sense.

I don't know if Vanessa is a fan of The Hunger Games or has even read them but last night I just finished reading the last book in the trilogy and this little paragraph near the end just really struck a chord with me and reminded me a lot of Get Good (may be a spolier for anyone planning on reading the books):
"What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again."

Really, now. That is some coincidence if it is a coincidence.
When was that book released? May V did read it..
But then, she said that it was inspired by a Sylvia Plath poem. Oh, well. We'd never know.
Unless V will answer the question itself.

WOW. Arwen, nice catch. I guess it happens when you're reading something like that and the song is in your head...
But the dandelion bit in the books is kinda specific... But then again she said "GOOD AGAIN". They should use the song as a part of the soundtrack.
It's kinda funny to imagine her quoting THG or Suzanne Collins while introducing the song. I dunno... THG is getting kinda popular and already touted as the NEXT Twilight makes it kinda Kitsch.
Not judging. They are actually very good books.
-
Mockingjay was released August 24, 2010. Wasn't she pretty much already done with the record by then? :-[ I'm a fan of the books as well so that find intrigued me a bit, but it's most likely a coincidence.

I know! I hate that they are becoming the next Twilight because they are so much better(no offense to any Twilight lovers, it's kinda my guilty pleasure). I'm kinda depressed I'm done reading THG.
But yeah, when I read that part in the book I just immediately thought of Get Good. That would be awesome if they used a V song in the soundtrack!
Silver: Yeah, you're probably right that she had already written the song by then. It just makes me love Get Good even more though!

LOL, I was thinking the same thing when I saw her tweet the poem.
-
LOL, that didn't even occur to me. (about her tweeting that)
I haven't read those books, I hadn't heard of them until recently when I was bored at work and doing some internet surfing. They look like something I'd like. But I'm going to read the VC inspired books first!

LOL! I thought that too.
And Sara, you should definitely check them out when you get a chance! They're really good.

Not sure if anyone has tweaked the lyrics more, but I think she's singing:
"Are the echoes coming back to you?
Is wisdom seeing patterns on a loom,
like a blanket around you?
And you were weaving colors
when i saw you.
But you're velvet on the moonlight,
or have you lost your constellation eyes?
Well, you could give it time.
I wish I could be there,
wish I could make it right.
And don't you worry, you'll soon be on the mend,
and that's no trick, that flicker of radiance.
And you'll feel lucky, darling, i'm sure of it.
You'll figure it out and get good again.
(Nah, nah, nah)
A Stonewall run, hills of green,
golden dust and dandelion seed, a bout of sorcery (not sure)
oh, it's been so long, this bout of sorcery, (don't think this is right, it might be a different language even)
oh it's been so long."

We have the booklets now. Somebody should post the correct lyrics. PLEASEEE

Lyrics copied from the ROTR digital booklet...
are the echoes coming back to you?
is wisdom seeing patterns on a loom?
like a blanket around you
you were weaving colors when i saw you
put your velvet on the moonlight
or have you lost your constellation eyes?
well you could give it time
i wish i could be there
i wish i could make it right
don’t you worry, you’ll soon be on the mend
that’s no trick, that flicker of radiance
you’ll feel lucky, darlin’, i’m sure of it
you’ll figure it out…and get good again
stone wall running hills of green
a golden, dusted dandelion scene
a powder soft serene
oh, it’s been so long since powder soft serene
yeah, it’s been so long
don’t you worry, you’ll soon be on the mend
that’s no trick, that flicker of radiance
you’ll feel lucky, darlin’, i promise you this
you’ll figure it out…and get good again
you said you don’t know why but you don’t feel free
you know it’s not true but i know what you mean
i want to thank you for being so good to me
i just wanted you to know
are the echoes coming back to you?
is wisdom seeing patterns on a loom?
like a blanket around you
we’ll look out for each other
i’ll look out for you
we’ll look out for each other
don’t you worry, you’ll soon be on the mend
that’s no trick, that flicker of radiance
you’ll feel lucky, darlin’, I'm sure of it
you’ll figure it out…yeah we'll get good again
Peace
Aaron

Am I the only one who thinks she sounds like Stevie Nicks when she sings the get good again part espically when she says good? :-\ Or am I just crazy? :P
-
My second favourite song off the album. I love it.
-
Is anyone working on piano sheets for this?
-
Not me. But to help you, here's the guitar chords I've transcribed for it.

Oh I found those earlier(: Thanks anyways though. I did make my own arrangement kinda. Haha. I also did a cover. I can try to record and upload it to mediafire if you want to hear it?(:

here we go, lyrics, typed out by me.
In a dream
I know you wrote this a long time before the actual album came out, but reading this was just hilarious because it's SO not right. "You'll soon be off-limits" XDDD

Someone had posted somewhere, not in any Get Good thread, about not understanding the line:
Oh it's been so long since powder soft serene.
This is my take on it. Since the song is based on the speech her cousin gave that references Sylvia Plath's poem about nature being beautiful and that the song is for a friend contemplating divorce, I think that the line means it's been a long time since being able to enjoy life and the goings on that surround us in nature. Because the friend has lost her constellation eyes (to me that means like her starry eyes how we are in the beginning throes of love) she was unable to see all the good around her in other people, friends, nature and life. So Vanessa sings to say that she will be there for her, she will help her get good again, and that someday she will get good again especially if she can take the time to stop and smell the roses. So basically the friend has not been able to relax and enjoy life hence, it's been so long since powder soft serene.
Does this explanation make sense to anyone else?
-
I'd agree with that interpretation, definitely. I thought of it as, it's been so long since she's been able to enjoy the little things, like blowing on a dandelion and watching the seeds drift away.

aw yeah, I like the sentiment as well. more concise than by blabbering. lol

Heard it while in Starbucks :)

Has anybody else cried when listening to this song? My bf and I recently broke up (or more accurately, I gave him the choice and he decided to end things) and since V has said this song was written for a friend who was contemplating divorce, the song serves as a really great pep talk, that I'll get good again-- and this part especially in the chorus, gets me.
Before our relationship ended, whenever I heard "Get Good", it always made me feel calm and grounded, and I like that it takes on a deeper, different meaning for me now.
