-
"As I Lay Me Down" by Sophie B. Hawkins - 9

As to not allow this to turn into a vehicle for post whoring (ah, how I miss post whoring ), when you mention which song you're listening to, you should: say something about why you like it/don't like it/what it means to you/share some other relic which you relate to the song. :)
I am currently listening to "Foolish Games" by Jewel. I remember listening to the 'Pieces Of You' CD when I was riding the city bus in 8th grade to middle school. Holy crap, I'm old.
-
"Innocence" by Avril Lavigne, its a really beautiful song and just soothes me to bed. I just wish I had someone to share the song with though to make it that much more special. There is an orchestra in the background and its just a really beautiful instrumental song.
-
Fiona Apple's "Parting Gift."
I used to be homeless.. hadn't really heard Fiona Apple and was browsing CD's at Borders and heard this sample from her latest CD. This song just relates to my life in so many ways. Also this song got me hooked.. I bought all her albums and had the best summer ever!

nice on getting hooked on her. I got hooked to her from Extraordinary Machine as well. I never really remember hearing Criminal seeing as that I was only like 10? no 8 or 9 I dont know.

trying to make myself feel better...
-
ok so I have tried to just hold it in. But come on you people are not nice. Try not to post 3 times in a row? what I forgot to type stuff. Jeeze sorry. Just becuase I cant find a stupid topic for something and start another topic for it without knowing there is one already yous get all OMG and CHRIST SEARCH!!! aynwho I just had to get that off me chest. I know you said please and you said it in a nice way but I just had to say something.
-
oh god now I feel bad because you said trying to make myself feel better. I am sure you did not need to have someone getting all OMG on you. Sorry. :)
-
Its considered spamming when you post the way you do.
If you forget to say something you can go back to the post and at the bottom click "edit" and type what you forgot to say or if you had something to add to it. Then click submit so it all becomes one whole post.
We are not mean, we just do not like a mess like the vanessa carlton message board had become. if you are not sure of a topic you can click the search button if there is not one under the search you can create a new topic, and if somehow someone else finds there was in fact a topic on that already, a moderator will merge the topics together.
Please read the FAQ's.
We are nice, really. We just like things done a certain way here, okay? In a good way. Please don't feel like I am bashing on you. :)
-
Its all good. =]

I thought it was funny that you posted 3 times to be honest. But I do agree it's nice to have a clean, organized board.

It is tough sometimes. Lately I have been a little depressed because it's very difficult to get people to care about your music.

Ah well you know tons of us on here love it. And I imagine you're putting your music out there more than ever now, so you're probably getting more apathetic reactions along with the good ones. I kinda just say fuck it when I put my music out there... but it's pretty much a petty hobby for me. Must be really stressful when you're trying to make it into a career. But stay strong and you better tour in denver dammit! :D

Almost as a rule, Megan doesn't care anything about any of the music I like, but not to worry: She's not here and it's still in the CD player.
But yeah, it's true that the more the people that hear your music, the more the people that don't care about it. But that's not the important part. The main thing is the fraction of all those people who do. :)

-
When It Rains - Paramore. I really like this band, she's punkish/alternative and yet still manages to pull of a great slow melodic song.

"I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me + You)" -Fall Out Boy.
Good song, I can play it on guitar. Then I listened to
"All The Fun You Had Just Adds To My Fear Of Abandonment" by my cousin and I.
I think it's a little detached at parts, but I like it a fair bit. I'm new at writing songs on guitar, so I'll probably get better in time. My next project is to write an acoustic song.

Kate Voegele Wish You Were Here
Just discovered a website called Last FM, allows you to enter an artist and create a radio station based on that artist but also recommends songs by other similar artists as well as playing songs by your chosen artist. So might start using this thread a bit :)
So having entered Vanessa, came across the above song. Beautiful, easy listening song. Anyone heard of Kate Voegele, believe she is from Ohio.
-
Lucie Silvas What You're Made Of.
Fantastic melody and powerful vocals, very similar to Delta Goodrem.
Not sure if any of you in the States have heard of her, she is from England, started off as a backing singer to one of my favorite singer songwriters Gary Barlow also from England.
-
Colbie Caillat Fallin' For You
Easy listening but upbeat song, can just imagine driving to this song :)
Hope you guys won't mind my posts in this thread, will post a bit but won't flood it too much with posts :)
-

I always keep an eye out for her when I go to Arsenal matches as she is also a season ticket holder but I have yet to see her, not surprising when you have 60,000 other people there :P

Ellie Goulding - The Writer
Ellie is an English songwriter, came across this song a few months ago while flicking through the music channels, and was immediately struck by the melody and her very distinctive singing voice.

hmm, I'm undecided. I think I like her voice, however most of the other songs on utube seem too poppy for her vocals. The Writer seems more her style but like she is being forced to do this mixed/pop stuff that I can't stand.

Totally agree with you, really don't think her vocals are suited to the other songs, will be interesting to see what road she does go down eventually.I held off buying her album after listening to the other stuff and just bought The Writer.
I do like her cover version of Elton Johns Your Song though, vocally she is far more suited to that type of song.

'Hey Julie' - Fountains of Wayne

just started to check them out. I'm in love with Zooey's voice buuuut...not sure I'm a fan of the overall sound they've got going. Though I will admit, I haven't given them a fair shot, I've only listened to them on Pandora and they mix in other bands, so I don't have a comprehensive view of them.

KT Tunstall- Other Side Of The World
Starting to get into her music, any fans here?
Me :) even if disappointed be her latest effort.

I guess it's an acquired taste - though their second record is way better than their first. Listen to 'Black Hole', 'Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?', 'Sentimental Heart' and 'This Is Not a Test' from Volume One and 'Don't Look Back', 'Ridin' In My Car' and 'Lingering Still' from Volume Two! They really grow on you. I can't remember the last time I started my morning without Volume Two playing on repeat in the background.
-
Sinead ( pronounced - Shin-aid ) McNally - Moody Blues
Just heard this song on the car radio earlier this evening, kind of catchy piano melody. Don't know much about the artist except what I read online, pianist singer songwriter, she is Irish from a town called Dundalk, about an hour away from me in Dublin.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgYJ1aUwbWA
-
She sounds like Regina Spektor to me in that song for me. :)

Seems a really nice girl, sent her friend request on facebook(she is excepting them) and a message complementing the song and she sent a message back which I thought was really nice :) unusual song for an Irish artist, you don't tend to hear many female artists who play piano, so hope it does well for her, I like the melody more than anything else.
-
Put Your Arms Around Me - Jens Lekman
Just heard this from the movie Whip It. The instrumental caught my ears, so I decided to look up to it. I was not disappointed.
On the other hand, I'm also taking time to rediscover Colbie Caillat. Realize and The Little Things has been playing on repeat lately.

I'm glad she got me interested in MMJ too, I LOVE Circuital album, (I hadn't known it was nominated for a grammy, but they didn't win) I bought one of their older albums but I haven't listened to it yet because I'm hooked on Feist and Florence and the Machine right now (LOVE Between two lungs)

I see what you guys mean, but I definitely heard it in a different way? (not sure how to put it :D haha)
It might be because I first encountered her more poppy music, but to me, it feels like a very unique twist on the pop genre. She has acoustic versions of her poppy songs, and I appreciate both, actually. And I'm usually not into such electronic music. :D I've become quite a fan of Ellie. Though her songs are pop, they have a unique atmosphere and sound.
She has a very beautiful voice that definately sounds better with her more acoustic tracks. It just depends on what kind of music you like. ;D Hopefully, she releases more of that into the mainstream with her next album.
