I agree. Music is music. I get really annoyed when people over analyze everything and attempt to apply deep meanings to everything they hear or read. And then proceeds to judge a piece of poetry, music, or art and decide it's childish or not mature enough because it doesn't adhere to that persons aesthetics and their idea of how something should read, look, or sound.

Fergie has released some really awesome pop songs lately, love her or hate her, she has great pop songs that sell well. Music doesn't have to be deep or sophisticated in anyway to be music.

And guess what, I'm a classically trained pianist and attend the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School, the notion of having some musical inclanation more so than others does not give you the right to judge a song and then blast other people for having a different opinion while asserting yours has more credibility, that's a bunch of horse crap. God, this place is crowded with elitist snobs. And I deal with a lot of elitist snobs on a daily basis at the music school. Seriously.

This just makes me laugh. I don't think anyone on here was 'blasting' Vanessa's song or criticising others for having a different opinion. Some people think the song is childish- and they genuinely think it's childish- not because they think they are superior. Why do you have a problem with people saying that?

I feel sorry that you think music is 'just music'. Music is a huge and integral part of culture and if that isn't open to criticism then I wonder what you have left. Music should be analysed and criticised- it's what makes it a brilliant art form.

And I don't have any musical training at ALL so I'm not being an elitist snob about this.

I know everyone's entitled to their opinion but I don't quite understand why people are giving VC cr*p about NF.
She's an artist and artists have different sides. NF is Vanessa's fun side, just a light-hearted, summer-ish song and a song that tries to appeal to the general audience.
Of course, most of us (including myself) like Vanessa's "darker side" more, with songs like HAWBTW or HOM but I'm not gonna deny that I also enjoy the more radio friendly songs.
Just my 2 cents and a little rant about all this.  :wink:

Just as you are entitled to your '2 cents' so is everyone else on this board. Part of being a mature fan is not worshipping everything Vanessa puts out but looking at it with a critical eye. You could say this is doing Vanessa more of a service as a fan than simply blinding accepting everything she releases.

For some of the more musical people on here, this is clearly going to come into their judgement of a song. If people think it is childish, they are more than welcome to critically evaluate the song in this way (or 'give vanessa crap about it' as you so aptly put it).

I can see why you want everyone to love 'both sides' of Vanessa- but the fact is not everyone does. I think more than anything it's because this song appears to be a reversion to a less sophisticated style of writing that people didn't expect from a supposedly more musically mature Vanessa.

Hmmmm not a great live performance in my opinion- if she goes on a promo tour and performs like that I don't think this song will take off. And they couldn't even spell Heroes right!

AHHHH this is BRILLIANT! When I heard the first clip I SO wasn't keen on it- but the full production of it is perfect and really unconventional (at the same time as being perfect for radio).

Lets hope it actually gets somewhere!!

So what exactly do you mean by open mindedness? Because it appears to me, you mean it as 'liking everything'. So people some people don't have a personal preference for hip hop. Absolutely nothing to to with being 'open minded'.

i'd say that that's a weaker arguement, because it doesn't take a deal to make an album. anybody can make an album with the time and money, but to get a deal is more difficult and rare.

but i'm so tired of this; vanessa's going to make whatever music she wants to make regardless of if one of the people on this board thinks it's too simple or not, and you can either listen to the music or not. get over yourselves.

Lmao. The idiocy astounds me. Yes of COURSE it's not going to make a blind bit of difference what we say- that is completely beside the point. The point is that this is a DISCUSSION forum where you DISCUSS Vanessa's music etc. That is exactly what we're doing.

i just don't understand why, if vanessa's piano is boring and juvenile and you have to spice it up and do it better than her, she has a record deal and you guys don't.

What a piss poor argument. That's like saying- "You say George Bush is a bad president, but you're not president so that means he must be right".

Why do you have to jump down everyone's throats who even thinks to critically assess Vanessa's work? It's not a personal insult to her or to you- grow up a bit and learn that criticism is a key part of life.

I completely agree that her songwriting style is very simple lately- to me it sounds less and less complex and the songs are getting more and more like nursery rhymes. That's not to say i don't find them pleasant songs- but i don't think there's any particular genius behind them like i did with BnN.

lmao the cider of homeless people? how did that come about? :-P The one thing about Scrumpy Jacks I don't necessarily like is that it's almost too sweet - after a pint I can't drink anymore.

Well it's cheap so tramps drink it. Also, White Lightning aswell, hehe.

Is that because its brand is shoved in your face all hours of the day? Have you had Koppaberg cider? Your view of cider will change forever when you have that. SOOOO many people here drink Strongbow- especially girls, as a way of looking less girly but not drinking beer.
