I'm really waiting for his time to be up. He's annoying. He doesn't understand much of what he makes fun of. His show isn't nearly as smart and informative as his fans say it is. He is also putting out political opinions that he doesn't have to defend because they're masked as humor. If someone calls him on something that's wrong, they simply have no sense of humor. That's a low tactic.

Well, I gracefully and completely disagree with you.  On his show he more or less highlights everything that is wrong with our current situation, our current government giving him no shortage of "material" but off of his set and on other shows on CNN, MSNBC, and the other respected news networks he is intelligent and unabashed when confronted with a hard issue.  He is the most watched newscaster, and i do consider him one, for young adults, 18-25.  Most 18-25 year olds I know don't watch anything but Jon Stewert.  So, I think that he is not only responsible for making the media more interesting but bringing it to an audience that otherwise wouldn't have been exposed to it.

That's one of the biggest reasons why I despise the show. An information monoculture is a BAD thing.

Also, most news isn't entertaining. Attempts to make it entertaining usually come at the expense of accuracy and journalistic integrity. By creating the expectation that news should be entertaining, people tend to ignore important news that isn't entertaining. That's dangerous. How many of you outside of the nerd world have heard that the European Union is threatening to break DNS if the US doesn't yield control to an international body that the EU approves of? It's a stupid political pissing match with serious implications, but it's not something that is particularly interesting.

Perhaps it is time to whip out the old agree to disagree thing.


I think, and this is my opinion, that by presenting the news, not altering it, in an entertaining way he is informing the populace that may not want to hear what is happening in their world from Bill O'reilly.

Well, while I agree on the need for differences of opinion in any organized society, I will also say that this is a moot point.  

I am sure I can never convince you that Jon Stewert is a national treasure.

And you cannot convince me of his incompetance.
