You really didn't miss much. It was a bunch of rejects. The only good one was the 16 year old crack baby girl.
My favorites so far are Michelle Steingas and Sarah Kruger. I think Sarah was the best singer they showed yesterday.

Hmmm, the first 2 episodes didn't show many good ones.
Only a few were actually worth it. And man, Seattle was BAD!!
I haven't found anyone I really like yet. The Colombian girl was cool but I don't know if she's gonna be good singing anything else but Shakira's stuff. :?

So far Jory is my favorite (one of the NY contestants, she had curly hair). She was amazing. The Sundance guy was cool too & I also liked the guy who didn't really look like an american idol with the long beard & all.. he had a great voice. Who do you guys like as of right now?

and the castro/osama look alike...(sean michelle?)...had complete control over the song...
that background singer (doolittle?) had a pretty strong voice too...

oh & it doesnt look like jory made it past hollywood.. i added her on myspace & she said shes recording "hot new music" & I dont think your allowed to do that or have a myspace while your on idol cuz one of my friends made it to the judges & she had to take hers down for a while. (If they show her, she'll be the Paula fan during the birmingham auditions.. Paula was ironically sick during her audition so it was just Randy & Simon).

ahh my friend was shown tonight! she was the one where her grandmother rang the cow bell (theres a story behind it, but they didnt show it). She was in the red shirt showed towards the end when they did the whole thank you bit. Simon said something about not reaching for the stars cuz thats Paulas saying & she didnt make it.
Anyways, that girl with the little girls voice was hilarious. Her & Paula cracked me up. I really liked the guy that sang the Seal song with the curly hair.. he was good. Since Jory doesnt make it past Hollywood i'm still not sure who my favorite is.

Thats just her personality, she's always goofy like that. Unless your talking about a couple interviews she did, then she explained that a ton of times.

I like Leslie Hunt. She has a Cat Power sort of feel to her and I like it. Otherwise, I like Lakisha and a few guys whose names I don't remember. We'll see.

Anyway, I don't know if I should have favorites already but I do like Haley, Nicole and to a lesser extent, Alaina and Gina. I'm still unsure about Antonella, given that Marisa was better but didn't make it through.

a lot of people thought Marissa should've gotten through too. I cant stand Antonella for some reason, something about her just puts me off. Same with that Alania chick who said "God only likes good people" ugh.
Anyways, my favorites are still Chris & Melinda. But instead of Sundance I like Gina now. The only reason Tommy didn't get through is cuz of the criminal record thing & lieing to the producers about it. Wish he got through though!
Oh & we get 5 hours of Idol next week. 2 hours on Tuesday (guys night), 2 hours on Wednesday (girls night) & results are an hour on Thursday.

WORD... and whats wierd is that before the decision was made they clearly show us that marissa sang amazingly and the other gal forgot her words... making it seem obvious that marissa was to be chosen and then... :evil:

wow the guys were horrible. The only ones I liked were Chris Sligh of course (teletubbys :lol:) & Chris Richardson who sang the Gavin song. I LOVED that performance & thats one of my favorite songs.
Out of the girls I like Melinda Doolittle (love her! shes my favorite), Sabrina Sloan, Gina Glocksen, Stephanie Edwards & Leslie Hunt.
I really hope Antonella goes home tonight.. she was horrible. if she stays, America is the one smoking something this time.

^Wow, I disagree with both of you on several points. It's hilarious how everyone has such different opinions! I can't even fathom enjoying the performance by the guy who did the Gavin song - I thought it was torture!! And Nicole was even more tortuous. It was shockingly bad. I have more opinions, but am too lazy to post them. I just thought it was interesting that anyone could enjoy some of the performances that I simply hated (but there were a lot, so I guess it was inevitable). :lol:

Don't get me wrong I didn't like the song Nicole chose but I think she has potential. I thought Alaina and Antonella should have went home. I didn't think Amy was that bad.
The guys were all fairly bad. I thought Blake was the best and Phil was decent. Chris was okay but I didn't know the song. I didn't like the Gavin song for his voice. I just can't get over Sanjaya staying. That was my biggest problem with the voting. I thought his performance was painful to watch.

& Antonella may get kicked off with all the racey pictures that are out there right now.. have you guys heard about that? there are a couple that are WAY private. lets just say her ex boyfriend hates her lol. either that or one of her good "friends" got into her photobucket account & leaked them. They need to replace her with Marissa, thats what everyones been saying.

The weirdest thing being I can't seem to be able to care about Lakisha or Melinda for some reason. They sound great but too conventional to me.

All this vote tells me is that the AI audience doesn't appreciate good music. The problem I have with catering to the generation is that it only perpetuates the lack of musical diversity on the show. Songs did exist before 1990.

It's not that we dont appreciate good music cuz some people my age actually do you would be surprised, its the teenyboppers that dont get the older stuff. True songs did exist before 1990 but AI is watched by A LOT of us who grew up in the 90's & today so thats why most of them are doing those kinds of songs which actually makes sense. just in my opinion anyways

I never liked Leslie but she was better than her.
I did like Alaina a lot but she wasn't great this week, I'm not sure she had to be voted off though.
So far, I think Haley and Gina are the bomb: especially Haley, this girl should go far in the competition! (if voters finally open their freaking ears!)
As for the guys, they were MUCH better this week. I actually had some fun watching them. I thought Sundance was pretty good and I agree that Sanjaya was horrible and yet wasn't voted off.
To sum it up: if Antonella isn't gone by next week, there's really something f*ed up about the competition this year. Period.

I'm never buying one of your albums again, Shannon. ( :wink: , sort of). Leslie was the shit! To repeat what someone here said and what Leslie basically said, America doesn't care for good music. They'd rather see Antonella get up there and struggle through some pop song/power ballad than see Leslie or AJ do a real song, a jazz song, "Feeling Good".
Leslie was my favorite on the show and those two ad-libbed lines at the end made me an even bigger fan of her.

LaKisha is good but I see her having troubles when she has to do a different genre because she has a limited kind of voice IMO the way Jennifer Hudson did.

It was Nina Simone as Ryan said before the Leslie version and AJ did the Michael Buble version which I think your generation would like better because Nina does some unique things in songs that is an acquired taste. She does most of the Point of No Return soundtrack and that song is actually on it. I have a couple of her CDs. Jazz is a taboo genre on AI since most of this board hates Norah Jones and this board seems to be the AI demographic. Norah did one of her songs on her first album, Turn Me On, and the Norah version is almost unrecognizable next to the original because of all of her variations and delivery.

FINALLY! Antonella is gone!!
I agreed with both choices: Antonella and Sabrina had to leave.
Y'all know how I felt about Antonella and I never cared for Sabrina either.
I'm gonna support Haley and Gina, since they've been 2 of my fav' since the beginning. I'm a little worried about Haley though, she really needs to bring it, she has a great potential IMO.
As for the guys, I was SHOCKED to see Sundance voted off and Sanjaya making it to the top 12. I really didn't get it, why?
Now the big game begins!! :D

Sabrina has an amazing voice, but she ruined her chances of making it into the top 12 with her song choice this week & the way she performed it. She did too many "runs", instead of focusing on the main melody, in my opinion. I was disappointed because I think she can sing way better than Haley or Gina, both whom I dislike.
Sundance is overrated, I think. His performance of "Jeremy" was painful for me to watch. I liked him sometimes, but wasn't too impressed overall. Sanjaya has a lovely, soothing voice. Personally I prefer him over Sundance. It's all a matter of opinion.

I'm shocked Haley is staying over Sabrina because she's clearly not the singer Sabrina is but since I was always bothered by Sabrina and Haley is extremely nice to look at I can live with it.
Sanjaya staying is a joke and it makes Idol lose credibility in my eyes. This was the first week I really like Chris Richardson.
At this point, I think Melinda will win with Chris Sligh in 2nd. Melinda is just in a totally different league. Chris could challenge her if he chose better songs but he can't win with what he's been singing.

John Stevens was good and at least he sang in tune. You might not have liked his style of music but you can't really say he couldn't sing whereas Sanjaya has butchered 3 songs already. He has the distinction of being the first contestant to get by totally on popularity.

Alright so this is the first part of my review for this week (I'm gonna watch the results right after this post).
Let's start with the bad:
- Sanjaya: wow, he was very very bad this week. I'm pretty sure he's gonna be gone after this show,
- Phil and Chris Richardson: I really didn't like their vocals at all,
- Chris Sligh: what was up with the weird arrangement?? I really didn't get it, he basically killed a classic to me,
- the same thing with Blake, I couldn't get into his "remix" of the song.
Now the best of the rest:
- I still don't dig LaKisha, I know she has this huge, powerful voice but I don't know,
- Stephanie is also good but doesn't she remind you guys too much of Beyonce? I feel like she's this "generic" kind of "diva", not authentic enough for me.
And finally, the really good ones for me:
- I admit that I was finally impressed with Melinda this week, I mean wow, the girl was a blast!
- Jordin had really good vocals too but has much more personality than Stephanie, I definitely liked her more,
- I thought Gina (one of my girls!) was good, I'm not sure she gave it all though. I think this girl has much more to offer than what she's shown so far,
- last but not least, my other girl Haley: I was very very touched with how emotional she got. I enjoyed the performance, I thought it was nice and mellow and good.
Alright, I'll post my thoughts later about the results.

sanjaya is the weaker vocal performer out of the bunch, but he's not bad. he's seen as the underdog now so people will support him a lot.

I think Sanjaya is just not being voted off because definitely the whole asian community (or anyone from the indian sub-continent ) is definitely voting for him like crazy irrespective of the fact whether he is sounding good or not...

i forget if this has been mentioned, but did you guys know howard stern (the radio guy) is trying to get his listeners to vote for sanjaya to try to get him to win ai & make the show lose credibility? votefortheworst is backing sanjaya up majorly too. Some people are actually fasting until he gets voted off & someone on an ai-related board i go to said their station was talking about a guy standing on a public roof somewhere in philly rallying until he gets voted off & supporters are going out to support him. i've heard so many stories.
I think haley is trying to look a little too much like kat.. i think shes a good performer but eh i dunno. getting the same hair stylist, using the same extensions as kat, etc. is kinda weird

I didnt really watch his performance but heard about the hair do ... and from what i'm getting it seems to be he's totally mocking the show...more or less like he thinks that he can do anything and get away with it...

He's openly said there have been monsters on the show, where their all sweet in front of the cameras but backstage their not so nice.. so yeah Simon wouldnt lie to us if thats not how she really was.
& Little River Band (had a hit with Lady back in the day & are on some major label) messaged me from their official myspace this week welcoming me & they wrote that their keyboardist worked with Melinda & said she's the real deal. I also thought Sanjaya sounded pretty great. He's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be...well, not always. (That week with the mohawk was ridiculous.)
I disagree about Haley, though. In my opinion, tonight's performance was her worst ever. :?
Jordin will always be my absolute favorite, although I know what you mean about her personality being too bubbly...at times it seems contrived. But she's young, so I forgive her.

I disagree that Sanjaya was good. He just wasn't as atrocious as he normally is so it's just an illusion that he was good.
Haley was terrible again but she does make terrible look good!

Yeah i used to not be able to stand Blake, but one of his performances changed my mind.. I just cant think of what one it was.
And I still liked Haleys performance last night, but I do think shes turning into another Antonella. Except we're forced to look at Haleys skimpy outfits, whereas we had a choice if we wanted to see Antonellas online.

and i actually wasnt disappointed last night for once. i LOVED how they added more of the judges in there (the manboob thing was priceless, he is so good with kids). And jennifer lopez was amazing. by far my favorite mentor besides lulu.
But I do miss the Carrie/Bo/Constantine days. back when they had more good singers than bad..

The top 12 transition “from mere amateurs, the equivalent of game show contestants, to professional TV performers,” and “[t]hey became union members covered under contracts negotiated by the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists,” USA TODAY reported.
That means they receive “at least the minimum $921 each time they appear on a one-hour show. In addition, they receive residual payments when a show they’re in as a finalist is aired again or is sold via DVDs or other media.”
An AFTRA spokesperson says “the nature of what they’re doing in the show changes from the final 12 on. Prior to that time, they’re just singing in a singing format. After that, they’re doing more interactions and set bits.”
If the finalists are members of a union or guild prior to auditioning, they have to “agree that their Idol performances are not professional appearances covered by a labor agreement,” according to the paper. And upon making it to the finals, each contestant “must join AFTRA, which requires a one-time initiation fee of $1,300.”

Once again, Sanjaya sounded horrendous, there's no other words for his "performance".
Phil was good and I thought Jordin was the absolute best thing of the night: she completely blew me away.
LaKisha's rendition of Carrie's "Jesus Take The Wheel" was very average to me, Melinda was fine though.
I wasn't thrilled by Blake or Chris, I don't think they fit in this genre of music.

I went to the performance part of the show (which means I didnt see Paula but its okay i'll have another chance hopefully). Me & my friend went as seat-fillers & we actually got to stay for the whole show. We waited inline for like 5 hours & it took us 2 hours to get there, so we were totally relieved that we didnt have to leave in the middle of it lol we were both right above the floor on the side where the stars exited near.. it still boggles my mind how we got to sit in 150 dollar seats for free
Being in that audience was seriously the most incredible experience I have ever had.. I must've cried a million times during the show, even Ellen looked like she was gonna cry (btw i loooved Ellen, it was surreal to see her in person). I was balling when Josh Groban sang with the Africa choir kids, that was the most touching performance for me. Annie Lenox made me tear up a lot also I love her now. Ill Divo (sp?) TOTALLY surprised me at how amazing they are live.. I was never a fan of them, but i was in total awe during their performance. If you guys have a chance, definitely go check them out. Now I know why Simon loves them so much. Kelly.. that girl is just amazing loved her & cant wait to see her again next month.

umm yeah the drug comments are old now. Ryan & Simon went to Africa, Randy went to louisiana & Paula went to a poor area of LA (i think thats where she was at) & helped the kids there. the whole show was emotional
each judge went on stage after their video of helping the kids showed & i dunno how to explain her outfit.. the top was just really revealing so its kind of weird, one minute the audience is crying & the next shocked. nobody noticed it till she got up on stage though

Jordin killed Blake. The more I heard her the more I loved her voice. The more I heard Blake the less impressed I was by his singing. He was a great beat boxer but his singing was very one dimensional.
