Well, I did a cover of Heroes and Thieves (messed up a bit at the end, and I don't know the bridge exactly). Um, also did a newer version of Twilight because I was able to rig my keyboard to my computer and can now make *slightly* better recordings. There is also a cover of a Damien Rice song called '9 Crimes' - Um, yeah, I tried; that song is really powerful when you hear him and Lisa sing it. I don't have strings or a guy to sing with! :)
I did these all today, and my I got nervous at times and my voice gets shaky, but whatever haha. I really dislike the "Just when I figured it ouuuut" part. It's really hard to make that sound good and form each note without sliding the wrong way.

You're soo good!!! I love your voice!!! It's so clear and beautiful. It's probably one of the best covers that I've heard. :D
-
When i say this, i mean it from my heart, you have the most angelic voice i have ever heard. Keep up the good work. :D
-
Aww, you guys are so nice. Thanks! :D
Shure vocal mics are pretty nice hehe
-
I really like "Heroes and Thieves". Do you write music?
-
Thanks, and I have written a couple songs in the past, but I don't usually. I haven't in over a year.
-
record deal?
-
Haha Jen. I wish I had the money it entails though 8O

well you should put yourself out there more, to get discovered or something..you have a really great voice...

I don't really want to be a singer or anything in the public eye, no matter how narrow that audience may be. I sort of did when I was younger, but not now. My whole family thinks it's crazy that I can sing and never really do anything with it, but it's more like a hobby for myself, and I share it with you all because I know you are VC fans and appreciate her music and hearing people's renditions. I have thought of doing vocal guides for karaoke cds because then I could sing songs I like, make some money, and not be seen :)

cool! 8)
you are crazy..you're way better than vanessa carlton.lol

what ever you plan to do, i wish you the best of luck!

I think they're great :)
+ I liked your Howie Day cover that is/was on your myspace better than the original.
You have a great voice.
-
Hehe thanks!! They deleted my myspace account for reasons unknown to me. It kinda upset me, but oh well. I think I have the Howie Day cover on an old computer in my basement still, though, so it's not completely lost :)

Are you sure you're not Vanessa in disguise? lol. You sound so much like her it's scary!
I'm just now listening to Twilight but as far as suggestions I'd say watch out for being under the pitch sometimes and don't be afraid to get loud! I bet you could really belt if you wanted to; don't shy away from dynamic contrast. That will really help with those pitchy problems you're talking about and it will make the performance more dramatic overall.
Oh wow, I really like this last song. I'm not familiar with it but I'm loving the inflection you're putting on the end of your phrases.
I don't know what you're doing for a career but I can def. see you being successful in the music world. Have you ever thought about getting a set list together and just gigging somewhere? Making a CD of covers?
You have a great ear for music. Great voice. Loved all of it.

There are moments when you sound a lot like Vanessa.
-
Yeah, I know. I can sound like a lot of artists that have similar voices to me. I do Vanessa the best I think, but I can sort of pull off Jewel, Michelle Branch, Jessica Andrews (country) or even Lisa Loeb sometimes. I promise I'm not pretending it's me and it's really Vanessa lol. My own voice has a little more vibrato than V's I think. V has a more raw voice.
I do agree with you on the Twilight pitchiness, Amanda. I hurt my voice, and it's been over a year, but too much 'belting' really puts strain on me. I guess it's a problem with me never having had lessons to teach me how to use it properly. I also always sing sitting, and I know standing seems to be the most popular way, but I have better control over my voice when I sit for some reason.
The last song is a Damien Rice track called '9 Crimes' off his new album. My version is a lot shorter and the end is pretty different bc I just improvised. In the real song, a woman sings the 1st verse, then a man sings the 2nd. It's a really neat song, I reccommend you check him out :)

Yeah, I'd say on the spectrum of voices, yours is right in between Vanessa and Jewel. Very pretty, indeed. But I think it's perfectly fine if you don't want to exploit it for fame. :D
