Homecoming King
« on: October 20, 2004, 07:27:51 am »
My brother's coming home today
The first time in a year
He speaks with words he just can't say
The things we don't want to hear
My sister's first real boyfriend
He took the trip there, too
And came back here last weekend
In a wooden box, he flew

The flight across the ocean
Has air too thick with dread
But the flight upward to Heaven
Is a journey left unsaid

I write you letters every day
Without any replies
And every night I even pray
For an answer full of lies
I hate the world and everyone
Who pulled you far from me
Amidst the pulsing of the guns
And bathed in agony

The flight across the ocean
Has air too thick with dread
But the flight upward to Heaven
Is a journey left unsaid

I see your friends on CNN
I see you dressed in green
And running like a hero
Up on the silver screen
You're on my mind and in my dreams
And when I see it in my head at night
I can't ignore the screams
Now acid rain changes to a deeper shade of crimson
And bandages around our scars begin to come undone
We're children of a selfish world
Innocent young boys and girls

You came home last Monday night
Suddenly a man
And though you say that you're alright
You're far too numb to even wash the blood off of your hands
And you never want to look at me
You never want to smile
With sunken eyes you just retreat
And stay there for awhile
And it's scarlet tears I cry
When those words become our last
With a string around my finger tied
To hold on to the past
*natalie*

at least i can say
i was not afraid
i loved you all the way
i'd pick the fool any day.

Amazing.

Thanks guys :D
I wrote it after I watched "We Were Soldiers;" I had never really thought much about war (particularly in Iraq) until now. I know it's sad, and it is sad, but that's what happens
You should see "The Best Years of Our Lives." It's about these three guys who came back from WWI and they had changed, a LOT. An excellent movie.

Audio? Good Lord, we'll see how that goes. It's sort of halfway-ish got music now.
