Title: 11.13.13 The Swedish American Hall SF (review)
Post by: eclv on November 14, 2013, 01:43:23 am
It was really wonderful to see Vanessa again. She sounded great and Skye accompanied her which is always amazing. He also put together some pedals with different sounds and beats to make a fuller sound and even did some looping. Vanessa's fiancé also joined for some songs. She signed at the merch table after the show.

Wow... Getting married next month, congratulations Vanessa!

A Matter of Time w/ John sounds really interesting, because I haven't listened to all the new songs yet, and I love In Our Time so so much. Looks like an excellent set list and I'm pleased to see that she's back performing.

Did you get anything signed/meet Vanessa?

I am going to try and get some stuff up this evening, this work internet is sooo effing slow!! Maybe a little something special as well but our board owner is on vacation so we'll see how soon. I think she wants it too so it may happen tomorrow.  ;)

I was in the balcony and it's a pretty dark venue. I am sure there will be some better photos soon.

Thanks for the review and the pic! That's awesome that she's getting married next month! I always kinda wished I would have gotten married in December. That's a great setlist as well!

Great show, she looked happy. I was glad to see her like this after what happened (I even told her "I'm glad you're well" and she smiled at me). It's nice she added a couple of songs with John (she actually did that too at the Musicians on Call event in September in NYC) but I gotta say I'm not a fan of his voice. He sounds a bit whiny to me. He seems like a nice guy though.

She played "Unlock the Lock" as a request I did for the East coast tour (because she only played it once at a show I couldn't attend). I didn't think it was for me but during our meet & greet after the show, she said "we did the song you requested last month [for the canceled show (note: Washington, DC)] See, it all worked out!". Wow, I couldn't believe she remembered.

I bought the ROTR songbook (which I had btw, completely forgot haha) and she signed it for me without asking for my name 'cause that's how awesome she is! And to top it all, I finally asked for a hug after 10 years (I always hesitated because I know she's not really the hugging type) and she said "but of course, you can have a hug!" :)
Title: My Experience at Vanessa's San Francisco Concert 11/13/2013 - A Miracle!
Post by: wonderponder on November 16, 2013, 07:16:46 pm
I went to Vanessa Carlton's small concert this past Wednesday night (11/13/2013) in SF, and amazingly as it was early and I was only one of six people in line so far, she said "Hi!" to me as she entered the small venue with John and her pup Victor after just walking up the sidewalk. A couple hours later in the music hall, as she was coming down the stairs and through the hallway,  she surprisingly told me she really liked my "Vanessa/Victor" t-shirt as I then welcomed her to San Francisco and handed her two copies of my poetry book about "Planets, Birds, Stars & Bees". She said "Thank You" and steered off course to hand them to her assistant asking him to hold onto them for her. What absolutely melted me though was that as she was walking toward him, I saw her slow mid-route and look at the cover of my book ever so slowly before handing them over. Then, she headed back around toward the path to the tiny stage where everyone was waiting and cheered loudly. It was an amazing intimate session as I sat with my two nieces in the front row a few feet away from Vanessa as she played many old and new songs, and joked around a lot. What was most amazing of all though, was that so soon after her surgery and what must be extremely emotional for her (as us all), she still flew out to San Francisco to sing wonderfully for her fans, and is continuing the rest of her long tour. Her voice is utterly amazing as her piano skills melodic genius. It was nice to look in her eyes for real, after staring at them for years in her photo on my wall, and I could finally tell and genuinely feel up-close, that she has some actual authentic connection with even the farthest star:) I've attached pics in this post - A pic of her on stage, a pic of the signed poster, the t-shirt she liked, and the cover of my book. Three hours in line was well worth the wait for someone so self-LESS!!

Yup, that was me!  ;D

Yeah, I decided to ask for a hug after 10 years of being around. I'm glad she agreed by saying "but of course, you may have a hug!", like it was a given! <3
