I find this song to be a good one, especially the "It's like a promise kept" part. However, I prefer the live versions of the song rather than the one from the album. The live versions have this extra intro which I find very nice to listen to.
Any thoughts about this song?

I might be biased, but I love "My Best". The music and the lyrics just go together. It's a "marriage made in heaven" if that term can be applied to music. Plus, since I love words, I read the lyrics. Awesome lyrics they were, too.

it's definitely one of her best!! :D ahahaha!! (sorry, excuse the lame pun, i just had to)
anyway, i think it's one of the saddest notions on H&t and the words are just pure poetry.. definitely one of my favourites, especially live.

I think it's pretty awesome too. But I also agree that it somehow contains a sad notion.
Yet, have anyone heard V talking about how she thinks it's a lie, I mean the notion she's trying to deliver to the listeners in the song? I did heard that she thinks so while googling some of her live versions of the song.
Anyway, I prefer to listen to the live songs with a violin accompaniment. Very good.

By the way does anyone here knows whether there's a sheet music for this song? ???

It's one of my favorite of all times. The music and words all come together for an amazing experience. I think it's also very visual. When I listen to it, I always see a wedding in my head, and it being sung to the Groom.
But then I have a soft spot for this sort of songs! :) Those that have a sort of love is forever sort of theme.

It's one of my all time favourite songs by her.
The melody is nice, the lyrics are great, but it's her vocal performance that makes the song. You
can feel the sadness in her voice - especially the second verse:
I know it's been so long
I can't ever seem to forget
All it takes is a song
And I could swear I hear your steps
Down the hall echoes a past
That leaves an ache, it's never left
'Cause I gave you my best
It's such a sad song and she conveys it so well. Her lyrics are so simple yet so powerful.

Oh - and I prefer the live version too (although I do love the studio).
There's a performance she did at some store of this song where it's just her & the piano. That's probably my favourite. Though, the piano & guitar is nice.
There's some sheet music for it. Me and Maag (I think that's right) worked on it. I'll have to see if I still have it.

I think I've seen the version you're talking about and I've been liking it too. I also like the versions with violin and guitar accompaniment.
I like the studio version too, but the extra intro in live versions is such a great difference that's so pleasant to hear.

I don't know if there's any Twilight fan on this site, but My Best makes me remember of Jacob and Bella. Like, two friends that were kinda of in love, but
" Although it didn't work out,
I don't love you any last.
My lover or friend,
I won't ever tell,
Our secrets safe
An unspoken citadel "
It's SO Jacob&Bella. Haha.
Love it.

Mhmm... I've been liking Twilight too before, but the screaming girls is just... *cringes* LOL. ;D
And yes, I think it kinda fits to them too.
