Title: Create a piece of music -- a group project
Post by: tylor2000 on January 14, 2004, 10:23:11 pm
I just thought up a kinda game.  We are going to create a song or piece of music.  The first person to post(not including myself --this first post) will choose a time signature. The person after that will choose a key. The third person will choose the first note of the melody.  And so on untill we are satified with it.

We can change anything, but you have to get permission from the person who posted about it first.  So If we want to change the time signature we have to get permission from the person who posted the post after this one, for example. Also, you can't post twice in succesion(that is you have to let someone else post before you can post again.)

I reserve the right to dictate or have power over anything in the thread less there are any problems on any aspect in any way, including transferring this power in to anyone else.  I'm not a mod or anything like that so I don't claim that of course....just power as far as the game goes.  I can even make a decision that is not fair or goes against the rules.  --But I won't unless there are problems or power trips.

Most important, this is supposed to be fun. :)  Don't worry I'm not a nazi.

Hold a C# chord (with the chord above Middle C) and C# octaves in the bass for 4 beats.

Treble : A# F G# A#
Bass:    A#_____A#

I feel like all my licks are simple.

PS : Whats's arpeggio? lol, I can read music, I just forget all these terms.

With waitz's permission clamicus is in charge of instruments.

Does anyone want to write what we have down on staff paper, scan, and post it so we all have an idea what we are looking at?  Maybe after that is accomplished we can get someone to record it so we can hear what it sounds like so far,  just for reference.

I will write it down.  When I can get to a scanner is another matter.  If it is the wrong notes then you all can tell me.  I'm sure it is awkward right now with the way it is put together but after we all can see it on paper and hear it we can start to change things.  I'm not a musician in the slightest so after I get it posted on paper someone else will have to record on the piano most likely so we can hear how it sounds.  I think the piano would be best for the composing instrument, but anything is welcome.

It is ours as a group.

I might need webspace for the scan.

We should start with a piano, add some other strings through the song(violins, viola, cello, bass, maybe a guitar) and end the song in a peak with a fast and grand part (no instruments fading in the end!). I'd like to know what do u ppl play? If there are too many pianists we could definetly make a 4 hands piece ;)

i play trumpet and piano. a good brass section always makes a song sound good.

but usually synthesizers don't have the greatest trumpet sound so maybe we won't use brass....

but piano is good

It would be great  adding a part with some guitar solo or with the piano sometimes , to update the song, so it won't be too classical

i say Afro Cuban!! lol

no, maybe not... but it would sound cool in 6/8. oh well

did we decide on a tempo? i'm think'n we did... because that would kind of have to do with what style we're playing in..

Afro-cuban is totally the best
it would be good, because the triplet would get the beat at a 104 tempo marking, but as far as notes go , going from a F#, in a b minor to an A to A# gives no tonal center so we need to pick a sort of home base chord that will be repetited  for good quality, and to hook the listener, and i suggest that a vibraphone be added (that's one of the many instruments i play) for it has a pretty sound and is good for wicked improv. solos,

well if we are doing afro cuban we'll need a drum set for sure, and bongos, um, that little shaker thing... i forgot what it's called. Tim knows.. i'll have to ask him. but yeah. oh, and of course a base (maybe fretless?)
i know that's a lot of stuff but that's what you'd find in an afro cuban rhythm section

well, first off, definetly a drum set, congas and bongos, a shaker, claves, perhaps a guirro, and maybe timbales, as far as bass i suggest a slap bass

You could always use polls in the polls section to help figure out some of these things.  T.B. Taylor, which octave(s) for your chord?

I figured we would start with a melody and work it that way but however.  Which chord progression should we use do you think Tim?

I haven't had much time lately which is why it's taken so long.

Whoever posts the notes on sheet music or with a music program, gets to run the thread for a month.  If you only post sheet music you have to send clamicus a copy so she can use it to write on her program so we can hear it using the program.  Edit: I reserve the right to take you out of power, but only if you are a major Nazi.
