Vanessa asked that this not be shared, please do not ask.
If you have this though, feel free to discuss.

Man, it's so nice to see you again
You're the great blue pool in L.A.
And I close my book, move my bag, make some space
'Cause it's time to give that song a break
So tell me now how these few years have been
When it's living to honor the best
And I have been well, I've saved you a smile
These feelings they come and go fast
Light your cigarette, see the fame in your eyes
Sing me that new song you sing
The time for you and I was never quite right
It matters and means everything
'Cause the garden walls grew quick
Before you know, you're outside of it
And the ivy's coming in
It's so beautiful if you can find it
And time, she's always kept you on her good side
Some people they still fight their fate
I understood clear what you said with your eyes
We all speak in different ways
'Cause the garden walls grew quick
Before you know, you're outside of it
And the ivy's coming in
It's so beautiful if you can find it
The garden walls grow quick
Before you know, you're outside of it
And the ivy's coming in
It's so beautiful if you can find it

haunting... like... another tall tales for spring kind of.. it has that dancing vibe to it... very lovely
-
That's lovely, even reading the lyrics I can feel how it would be quite a lilting melody, looking forward very much to these new songs.
-
Is the album leaked or are you in contact with her and got the record?
The lyrics are beautiful. Don't want to wait another year for this -.-
-
Lovely lyrics. But I really hope this doesn't mean that the album has leaked, a year before release.
That would be a real disaster...
-
I too am curious about the procurement of the lyrics but no song and how Vanessa knows about it.. but I didn't read the lyrics, I want to experience the album when it comes out, even if it is in a year!!
-
where is this from? and why are you saying you have it and giving us the lyrics if you don't want us to know? i mean...
-
Vanessa's Wilmington show was pretty short compared to the usual lengthy shows and she wasn't up for signing after the show. Not sure if she wasn't feeling well or what but she sent out a note to all the ticket holders from that show apologizing and included in it a 3 song sampler... which included this song. In her email she asked that people not share the info which I think would have included the lyrics to the song =)
But don't worry, nothing has been leaked thus far that wasn't by V's choice. I'm sure it is only a matter of time before the 3 song sampler is public tho.

Ah, that is exiting news!:) Became a little bit worried there. Thanks for sharing this info Katia!

thank you so much!

I would think it included the lyrics too. You better ask her when you see her if that was okay, Kulpy. ;)
It was really sweet of her to send the email and especially the songs, she didn't have to do that. She asked that we not share the music around but to instead share (if we did enjoy what we heard) that new, good music is on it's way from her.

So there is no chance for all the others to get the song o.o ?

So there is no chance for all the others to get the song o.o ?
that would be really sad, because i live im Brazil and i'll never get a chance to see Vanessa performing. it's not like i'm not as fan as the others... i wanna listen to the sooongs. :(
-
I know what you mean. I don't want to be a whiner, but I have been a dedicated fan for like 12 years, and ordered multiple copies of all of her albums and merch with expensive shipping costs.
Sadly, I live in Sweden, and have not yet still had the opportunity to go to one of her concert. But hey, I still think it is really cool of her to send out such a cool apologize-gift to her concertgoers. But sometimes it sucks being an international-fan, when it feels like you’re missing out on stuff like this.

It's awesome she was allowed to share songs that aren't released yet. It's unfortunate though that she didn't give out songs that will never be released like "All is well" or "Best behaviour", I know some fans are eager to get them (me included!).

She doesn't own the rights to those songs so we will never hear them in studio form, sadly :(
"Blue Pool" sounds like it's going to be very nice! :) Really am looking forward to this new record.
-
i'm dying for this song :(

I know but let's not throw out there just here for us :)
After the leak of Rabbits. We really shouldn't. After all she did tell us "You will need patience"
-
this is what i heard from the live version:
So tell me now how these few years have been
When it's living to honor the past
And I have been well, I say through a smile
These feelings they come and go fast
Light your cigarette, see the flame in your eyes
Sing me that new song you sing
The time for you and I was never quite right
It matters and means everything

So are these three songs supposed to be for the next record, or do we not get them? Hmmm
-
I am in love with the piano riff! :o
-
Really beautiful and haunting. Anyone have any idea of a meaning?
-
After listening to it a bunch of times in a row, this is my take on the meaning.
She's talking about seeing someone in LA she used to be in a relationship with.
"The garden walls grow quick, before you know you're outside of it, and the ivy's coming in, it's so beautiful if you can find it."
Their relationship ended so quickly and it took her by surprise how quickly she was on the outside, but time moves quickly too and the ivy has grown around the wall (their relationship) so now she no longer feels the hurt and can look back on their time together fondly. It's beautiful when the ivy grows and you can be friends with someone despite the pain they caused you.
Also, the when she says, "time's always been kind to you, some people still fight their fate" I think she's talking about how people try to get surgery/procedures to look younger and "fight their fate" of getting older.
-
so is the version you guys already had the same one we just got?

I think the fighting fate part has more to do with the inside than outside of a person. life has a funny way of throwing curve balls but we always wind up where we are supposed to be at that very moment. I think our life path is some what planned out as far as our ending goes but how we get there is up to us.. so no matter how you fight (deviate from the path) you'll always wind up how you were supposed to .. your fate. Further, those who hide their true selves will never be able escape who they really are; any lies you've told (to yourself and others) about who and what you are will catch up to you and you will either be miserable, or reconcile those things you try to hide.
edit: I read the lyrics again and I see now that it does refer to physical because time has been good to you is a compliment to how one ages!
I still like the internal person interpretation too! ;)
-
so is the version you guys already had the same one we just got?
same exact, new one is probably better quality though.

ok, thank you :)
im glad we have no secrets anymore haha (except for the other two, but young heart and blue pool will help me wait for them)
-
Hmmm i think it's about fame
-
My biggest peeve in the lyrics is when she's talking about the cigarette and she sees the FAME in his/her eyes!!!! Is it just me but won't FLAME be a better word???
-
ok, the official lyrics are on her youtube video for the song.
it is actually
Man its so nice to see you again
Near that grey blue pool in LA
and that drastically changes everything i knew about the lyrics haha.
-
i wish the video for this was different. I like having the glimpses (fast and not clear...) in to her life and what I'm guessing was part of the recording/making the album process. I enjoy victor and the go pro camera is neat. But I envisioned something a bit different, mostly for the ending with the piano outro. It reminds me of that fast motion video of flowers growing or plants growing. So I envisioned the literal interpretation of that sort of visual, real or animated, of ivy growing over a wall with vegetation growing out of control.
