I've been on a big Fleetwood Mac kick the last week or so. I got a Very Best Of FwM Double CD I'm listening to. The genius that came from this band is incredible!
"Little Lies" I think is my favorite of all.

And with Lindsay working with Vanessa is a nice bonus too.

DATELINE: LOS ANGELES, March 2

BODY:
From music's reigning pop royalty to film stars to the underground community of Venice Beach, Costa Rican originating spirit, S GUARO, is becoming an instant staple among some of the most discerning audiences.  S GUARO is the first major
white spirit to be introduced into the US market since Tequila.
Just over one month into its soft introduction in the highest profile market in the US, S GUARO has developed an almost cult local following, falling into the hands of such notables as P Diddy, Steven Jenkins, Vanessa Carlton, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jamie Foxx, Pete Yorn, Vincent Gallo, Les Nubians, Paul Van Dyke, Estella Gardinier, Sheryl Crow, Rachel Hunter, Andy Dick, Ben Harper, Melissa Etheridge, Hugh Hefner, Edward Furlong, Bai Ling and The Roots, to name a few.
From the Golden Globes to the Grammy's to the Oscars and throughout some of
Hollywood's hottest bars and nightclubs, S GUARO has in one short month launched
an unprecedented local sampling initiative.  Its initial launch into the Los
Angeles market will lead to a national roll out carrying this unique product
into the country's top consumer markets over the next twelve months and beyond.
For Award Season 2004, S GUARO served as official liquor sponsor of "Oasis"
in Conjunction with Women in Film, the ultimate pre show prep center and escape,
showcasing leading designers, jewelers, cosmetic and skin-care lines from around
the world.  Signature drinks created for "Oasis" included, the GUARO eSsence (S
GUARO, lemon lime soda and ginger extract), the Costa Rican Martini (S GUARO
with a Lemon Twist), Costa Libre (S GUARO and Cola) and the GUARO Sunset (S
GUARO, cranberry with a splash of pineapple juice).  To top off their award
season sampling, S GUARO was also on hand at photographer to the stars, Patrick
McMullan's, LA book launch event at Hollywood's hottest member's only club,

proximity to the founders' home in Malibu, CA.  "We first experienced this
incredible drink while visiting Costa Rica during the summer of 1999," said
Scott and Sandi Dinsdale, the husband and wife team behind S Spirits, LLC. "It
has been a labor of love turning this local Costa Rican favorite into a world

discovering why "Smooth Will Never Be the Same(TM)."

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Louder noises from acoustics

HEADLINE: Louder noises from acoustics

BODY:
Who hasn't watched mesmerised as some impossibly talented starlet's fingers have danced at lightening speed over the keys of a piano and dreamed that they could do the same? For many, the dream has become a reality. Acoustic pianos have been a huge growth area at Biggars in Sauchiehall Street in recent years.

The classical piano remains as strong as ever but younger talent has been encouraged by piano-playing stars such as Norah Jones and Vanessa Carlton and the resurgence in jazz has also seen an upsurge in young players with aspirations to earn a few pounds in the evening at one of the host of newly cool piano bars.

A quality acoustic piano is many things rolled into one. It is a friend for life which will provide hours of creative entertainment, a welcome relief in a world where almost everything is disposable.

All of this enthusiasm should be read with one caveat in mind should you choose to pursue the dream. In recent times the market has been flooded with cheaper Far Eastern pianos which look fine but may disappoint in the long run.

After decades of experience, Biggars, one of the market leaders in piano sales in the West of Scotland, has made a conscious move to stock only the best quality pianos from top manufacturers such as Steinway &Son, Boston, Yamaha and Kemble. "A good piano will easily pay you back for the slightly higher outlay," says Martin Considine, shop manager. "Not only will it sound better for longer but it will last to the second or third generation," he says.

Steinway &Son, the ultimate in pianos, recently celebrated 150 years in business, while Kemble, which manufactures at the more affordable end of the market, takes pride in being the only remaining British piano maker. Some pianos, especially a Steinway, will increase in value, which is a very welcome financial benefit.

The buying team at Biggars has literally scoured the world to find manufacturers who invest heavily in product development. Their chosen suppliers bring together the latest production methods, technical innovations and highest quality woods and materials to produce products that the company has confidence in.

Of course, the piano is often thought of as the most traditional of instruments but advances in recent times have brought a new and exciting direction to the instrument. Every piano sold at Biggars is capable of being fitted with a system which allows silent practise which the pianist alone hears through headphones. With so many people living in flats, this is undoubtedly a godsend and can have an extra benefit if you're not totally confident about your ability to please the neighbours in terms of the sound produced.

One of these systems, called Pianodisc, is especially clever for those of us who fear that our ability may never live up to justifying the cost of a piano. This system could be thought of as a hi-tech pianola, allowing you to enjoy listening to the piano playing itself.

Pianodisc allows you to choose your favourite artist to play the piano to you, and some models allow you or the piano in "autopilot" to play along to a real orchestra or band recorded on the disc. Maybe not quite as thrilling as the genuine experience, but it certainly gives a new angle to karaoke.

Biggars is justifiably proud of its coup in being chosen as the sole Scottish agent for the world's best piano.

"We are thrilled with the success of Steinway in Scotland," says Martin Considine " The name speaks for itself and is synonymous with the ultimate in quality and desirability.

"Scotland has an appetite for the best and we have been pleasantly surprised that the vast majority of our customers are not professional musicians but extremely able non-professional players who simply want the best.

"This has made us Steinway's top dealer in the UK which is a fantastic achievement. "

In the past, a piano was seen as a real status symbol within the home, with many being handed down for generations. While having an old upright in the corner is less likely, pianos are still back in fashion, though not necessarily in the form we usually remember them.

Baby grands and uprights add a touch of style to any home, but so too do electronic machines and a range of keyboards, ensuring anyone can play piano in the form they most prefer.

HEADLINE: Rock star helps DA Harris balance books

BYLINE: Recorder Staff

BODY:
District Attorney Kamala Harris is throwing a rock concert.

A far cry from the San Francisco prosecutor's daytime duties, the acoustic performance she's hosting - featuring Third Eye Blind singer Stephan Jenkins and singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton - is meant to help Harris retire her campaign debt.

And it's not the first time Harris has brought in well-known entertainers to help her raise some cash. In November, one of her campaign's fund raisers featured playwright Eve Ensler, who wrote "The Vagina Monologues."

Though there was no official word Monday on how Jenkins and Carlton got involved in raising dimes for Harris, DA spokeswoman Debbie Mesloh said the district attorney met Ensler about two years ago when the playwright came to San Francisco for work related to V-Day, a nonprofit organization that aims to stop violence against women. Harris preached during her campaign that the city needed to do a better job prosecuting domestic batterers and pimps, among other criminals.

By the end of last year, Harris' 2003 campaign still needed to raise at least $63,000 to break even, according to recent campaign finance statements. The event will be Thursday at Sno-Drift in San Francisco. Tickets cost from $50 to $750.

Other Musicians / Alice In Chains
« on: April 05, 2004, 10:45:55 am »
The best of the Seattle bands in their time. Nirvana was mindless noise, but Alice In Chains had layered harmonies and real quality to their music. It's quite ironic Layne died the same day as Kurt Cobain. Cut short by heroin, because he could still be making such amazing music today. But he was driven by the demon that killed him.

Also check out the MAD SEASON project.
And the tribute to Layne on Staind's 14 Shades Of Grey album.

Any thoughts, comments, about this upcoming movie?
It's supposed to be as historically accurate as possible about the final days of Christ before the cross.
Why couldnt it be in English??? Mel Gibson is english like the rest of us, it doesnt have to be done like a foreign film. I HATE subtitles. Most movies like that I prefer waiting for the DVD so I can have the English language track (ex: Crouching Tiger, Brotherhood Of The Wolf), and when it comes time for the DVD I hope they include an Eng track!

However.... I may go see it in theaters anyway just so I can hear the song by David Hodges & Ben Moody (both formerly of Evanescence) in the movie.

I love this movie, I can pop it in anytime.

the character names come from the real names of Butch & Sundance which is fitting considering the dynamic of the two.

The BEST part of the movie is the first 5 minutes, where Sarah Silverman is outside the club and is talking mad trash to em and gets socked in the face. I laugh my ass off! Has nothing at all to do with the rest of the movie, its just a classic moment!

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / V's "Teen People" Diary (update 3/3)
« on: December 30, 2003, 11:13:36 pm »
Entry 1: - 1/04
Vanessa Carlton: In Her Words
The singer checks in from the studio -- here's her entire diary entry!

New York City -- Salut. First off, I’d like to preface this confessional with a statement of love for Teen People. It is by far one of the best mags on the newsstand. I’m not just saying that because they’ve put me on the cover and have commissioned me to blab away. This mag seems to genuinely love and respect music. Therefore, I don’t feel like a panel of snarky bastards are going to judge and persecute my mental mumblings. Ahhhhhhhh, with that out of the way I have become significantly more relaxed and I’m now twirling my hair around my finger.

So you wanna know what I’m going through, do ya? Well, at this very moment I’m sitting in my apartment trying to figure what to do for dinner. Unfortunately that’s the least of my problems. After all, I’m in the middle of recording my sophomore album and people are watching and waiting. Though, I feel their eyes upon [me], I find solitude in the studio. I’m in New York on a writing hiatus right now, but the majority of the last couple months have been spent in San Francisco recording at Mourning Wood Studios. My days usually consist of waking up at the crack of 10 a.m. and driving myself to ballet class, where I proceed to sweat my brains out [for] an hour and a half. During this time, I usually reflect on what I have to do that day in the studio, and then proceed to wonder what my life would be like if I were a dancer instead of singer. I fear that curiosity will linger for all of time. As noon approaches, I head on over to the studio and meet up with Stephan Jenkins (yes I also date him -- what a coup!), my producer. He is a fantastic songwriter, producer and frontman for Third Eye Blind (totally underrated band). My other partner in crime is Sean Baresford -- he is engineering my record. He also happens to be the sweetest Englishman in the universe. Each afternoon Stephan, Sean and myself chip away at an album that is potentially the most important of my career. FYI, I have salmon, and the boys usually have Mexican for lunch.

To be honest, I can be lazy. I don’t always enjoy studio work. It’s tedious and time consuming. Considering I’m incredibly impatient and impulsive, I tend to get annoyed and tired. On the other hand, there are moments in the studio when a part will come together, or a missing piece to an arrangement will reveal itself and you’d think that Christ himself had been operating Protools that day (yes, we use Protools). Protools is a digital recording program. Essentially it allows us to record music on a computer, which makes editing a whole hell of a lot easier. (yes, I edit) Actually, part of the record is on Analog (tape), 'cause old school is always always better. After about two months of rampant discussions, tantrums, and revelations, I am more than halfway through my record. I love it. It is perhaps, the closest I’ve come to recording music that truly reflects my taste. I’ve decided to name the album (drumroll insert) Harmonium. My first album title for this record was The Boom in the Hole. Yeah, I know. What can I say, I’m creative! The root of the word "Harmonium" is harmony, which is also the root of this record, not to mention the most important element in songwriting. This is my grass roots record. No bells and whistles, no drum loops, just some harmonies and rhythms to tickle your fancy.

"I'm an emotional person. The other day, I woke up crying in San Francisco, where I've been working on my album (which should be out this spring). I was freaking out that I'm releasing this album that's so raw, such a step inside of me. At the end of my little cry-OK, big cry-I sat down at the piano and wrote two songs. They were inspired by a walk I took through a blizzard recently. Most days, you just go through the motions, but that day, I was like 'I am a human being with cold toes and a warm heart.' One of those songs, 'White Houses' could be a single. I probably need to go on walks more often!"

I recently went to the ER with a killer case of hives- I think it was from thepressure of making the most important record of my career. One of the best ways for me to combat stress is to play music, so I was psyched when the Coutning Crows asked me to do a show with them. Bob Weir from the Greatful Dead came out onstage- too cool! Anyway, my new album will be out in June. So get ready for Harmoniumdomination. It's a-comin'!
