I'm curious as to what you all would label yourself. I have been called gothic a lot for a while... and well I think I'm just going to give up and accept my love for goth things. I dress in black pretty often and my make-up apparently can be gothic. I don't have a teddy bear... I have a Mike Meyers from Halloween doll. Let's not forget the Marilyn Manson obsession.

I'd say I tip to the punk side of the scale. I hardly paint my nails black anymore, I've become quite lazy. I don't always wear all black, I've been wearing blue jeans alot lately..Plus I'm not a big fan of MM, although he has a few really good songs..I live a big mix of rock music, of course with LP at the top..

dork... I'm not all for labels.. that is why I'd get annoyed at people when they would all me goth.. but you know... there is some truth in it. I was just curious to see how everyone sees themselves.

I miss one option:
I'd label myself as
"Me"
I don't think I can choose from the other options...

maybe you can be an emo when you're 18 :?
what's so magical about 18, anyway? 16 is better, growing up sux, I hope you are not disappointed ;)
and you are already SOMETHING ...
-
If you had hippie up there, I would've picked that, but I went with "Teeny Bopper". I guess... I like Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. I'm a tenny bopper.

Emo/Preppy/Jock/Hippie
I'm like a . . . Cece Pot Pie! :D
I know, most of you are confused as to how I can be a Prep and a Hippie at the same time, but 'tis possible.

lol and that's why i will wait until college, cuz I am like that. (kinda...though I am not like PREP, just like minorly...more hippie)
lol joann you said I could be one, but I have no clue what an Emo is...I know what Elmo is and what an Emu is...but no Emo...
I like hippie better.
-
Joey, all I know is that it's a genre of music, but I have no clue what it is. I think it some sort of Hard Rock. Maybe really really hard rock?
-
I'm definately a mix of things... preppy sometimes, punk other times, with a little bit of emo in the mix. I have such a variety of styles, just depends on my mood i suppose  lol. I actually might call my style more surfer chick at times... I shop at so many diff types of stores, anywhere from pac sun or zumiez to express to hollister to hot topic etc
-
I actually might call my style more surfer chick at times...
Ooooh, surfer chick, me likes! ;)
I'm not too sure of my style either...
I'm kinda emo, I like to wear skater clothes.
I'll add more later if I can come up with sthing better!

I'm not labeled...I wear what and no one has ever called me preppy(though that would be an insult where I live),a punk,a goth,or anything else.

I said Emo, because that's how a lot of peopel percieve me...which is very true, because emo is short for Emotional, and for those that know me know that i'm a very emotional person! :-P
Joey - Emo is a genre of music, kind of like the outcast offspring of Punk. The brother that no one likes, but secretly does. you could say that it's a bunch of people wailing and crying about their miseries, which in a way is true, but there's so much emotion behind the songs and lyrics that you love it anyways. bands that are Emo are : Straylight Run, Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday (some argue that they're punk, I maintain they're emo), Days Away, etc.
-
....i really have no idea.
i like all sorts of music, including marylin manson, vanessacarlton, disturbed, systemofadown, newfoundglory, weezer, that one umm bop hanson song   ,just about anything.
i wouldnt really say "jock" ..i swim, but thats my only sport..., i dont even watch[or know how to play well] football or baseball or whatever.
lets just say im an "induvidual" ...i do whatever i want and i dont group people or things.
i honestly cannot answer this poll question :-\
-
I'm a mix of Emo, Grunge & Metalhead.
So I vote for grunge. I am from Seattle afterall.

:? I guess so...Andrew and i got in to a discussion about this in the TBS thread, and decided that there are tons of different offsprings of rock and emo. you've got punky emo, rock emo, hardcore emo....it's all emo in general, just a different style. so yeah, emo rock works :-P
-
GRRR I included "other" and it left it out! It won't let me edit it in. boooo
-
I like a lot of different syles... I dunno what to pick. My style changes with my mood, although it never changes too much.
I'm mostly preppy I guess, but I think i'm a mix of preppy, teeny bopper, and punk. I used to be a major teeny bopper, but luckily not so much now.
-
yeah... what is a "grunge"... i've never heard of that...
wow you gotta be kidding me....
Early-mid 90's out of Seattle came Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgraden... and with these bands came a ultra casual look of flannel, grungy t-shirts and jeans...
-
I said 'hippie', just coz I'm hyper and weird right now :-P
-
I picked "preppy" and I am just so not preppy, but none of the other one's were even close

Well my friends think i'm a "Drama person" and I guess I am.. Drama and Choir person, i'm just in the class it's not like i'm in all the big plays or anything, but whatever, lol
So yeah, I guess i'd label myself as a "Drama person" as my friends so kindly put it. I can't really choose anyof the other options.. none of them are really me.
Oh and I really hate when people label music genres.. It just irritates me. To me music is just music.. music is just something you should enjoy without all the labeling shit. I know I will get smacked for saying that but I hate when people are labeled like "punk" or "emo" or "teeny bopper".
-
Emooo.. I guess
most of the music I listen to is 'emo'.. bright eyes is like the epitome of emoo
I don't really give in to the whole image, though.. I just dress as I always have.
if you want to see EMO.. go on myspace or friendster..
every emo kid on myspace has donnie darko and requiem for a dream under movies.. it's not even funny.
it's the trend of the year.
-
Exactly. Labeling is like a trend.. I HATE trends. They make me go insane, lol
-
i picked hip hop head.,....im not really wigged out but since no one else picked it and i do tend to listen to beats
-
stuff like this makes me sick (http://www.kidzworld.com/site/p4095.htm)
Why exactly does that make you sick?
OMG! SOMEONE MIGHT TRY AND FIT INTO A FASHION MOLD!!!?!? OMGWTF!?!?/111!
Does it make you sick when Elle prints articles about fall and spring fashion as well? Or does this only bother you because it is about counter-culture fashion?

Weezer is geek rock and nothing else.
I agree that TBS is emo... in all honesty, they are closer to the original emo than just about any other band out there. Dashboard is emo-pop... a lot more mom and dad friendly.

no... elle is not raping fashion. and I will leave it at that. I'm not going to continue to discuss this with you... so reply if you feel the need to have the last word.

Metalhead.
I don't wear leather, ripped jeans, play guitar well or have long hair (well it's longish, but not metal long) I just listen to heavy metal.
In fact, if I hadn't already voted, I would classify myself as Other - Nerd. Nerds are allowed to listen to metal and not have a metal image because metal is the most unpopular and unfashionable type of music and so is perfectly suited for nerds. I have a job as a computer programmer, I tape discovery channel documentaries on quantum physics, I wear a digital watch and I once played a role playing game where I was a wizard, lol (the game used 10 sided dice for goodness sake!). So yeah, nerd :)

Aren't threads created for discussion? You can't give it out but not take it back.

lol, well i've never really listened to Weezer so i can't really say anything about them. Dashboard has definitley become more pop-ish. Have you listened to the new version of Hands Down? too overproduced in my opinion. But yeah, TBS is some good emo.

What I mean is, we are all individuals, why is there a need for labels? I'm not going to conform and label myself any of the things in that poll. Labelling is just shallow and fickle

I'd say I tip to the punk side of the scale. I hardly paint my nails black anymore, I've become quite lazy. Alright, for those who were confused, b/c I only explained this to some...I'm not a gawth kid and all that black nails thing was a BS thing I was doing. It was, by far, the dumbest idea for a 'undercover' newspaper story, but it went wrong and was foiled. I'm an average kid you could say, I dress comfortably, but I try to stay up to fashion at times..I still like alot of rock and stuff...but it doesn't affect my style.
-
i do not label myself. pathetic.
-
...but it doesn't affect my style.
the skinnyass white-boy style. I see it often.

To me, jeans and a printed tee is very normal dressing.
But people disagree with me. That's how the people I hang out with dress. People ALWAYS consider Trevor and Michael (especially) punk or goth. And I'm like . . . No?
But then again, there are those people, who are convinced that you're a wigger if you don't dress like that. And that pisses me off. Like, Alex dresses in basketball shorts (his size, not ones that are wrapped around his thighs and should be considered pants), and usually plain, white tees. And people say he's a wigger. O_o
But that's Kentucky for ya. ;)
-
im a randon amalgamation of different things...
james
-
Oh, preppy all the way. I live in a preppy universe. Rosie knows, she's been here.
Btw what do emos dress like? And teeny boppers?!? 8O I'm just curious, we don't have that much of a variety here. Lucky you don't seem to have techno people over there...
-
I am just me. I don't need to label myself. Thats just stupid.
-
Quite judgemental for a supposed "Christian," don't you think?
-
huh? what are you talking about?
-
huh? what are you talking about?
freakky earthlings!
-
Pibby if you misunderstood my post, i was just saying it would be stupid for me to label myself into something i am really not....seriously i dont care what others label themselves as but people who do that are just silly because they will start thinking they have to act and dress a certain way because of it...why not just try and be yourself? why label yourself because others are doing it? It doesnt make much sense to me.
Anyway if i were to label myself anything right now, it would be a bitch because i am not in a great mood...so whatever
-
Anyway if i were to label myself anything right now, it would be a bitch because i am not in a great mood...so whatever
:roflmao:
That was great. I don't think that labels pressure people to fit a steryotype, though, I think they just serve as means of classification. It is the need to keep up one's personal reputation that pressures one to do things one rather wouldn't. Of course, the former can lead to the latter...
I'm not very good at labeling myself, since I think that a label is more something that everyone else applies to you, not something you apply to yourself. However, I think my most accurate bet is to go with a mildly nerdy perfectionist. Does that make sense?
-
I'm not sure that my wardrobe would fall into just one particular style, but
it would be easier for me to dress as a hippie than anything else so hippie
is the label I voted for. Most of my clothes are bought for me, and its like
January since I bought anything for myself. I need new jeans though
Peace
Aaron

I don't completely fit into any category, but I think Metalhead would be closest for me :)
