I've been seeing commericials for the top 100 female artists on vh1. Hopefully she makes the list. No way she'll place in the top 50 but hopefully we will see her on the list. She is talented, but she's not gonna come ahead madonna, whitney, mariah, gaga, brit, tori, amy, etc.

I'm extremely surprised she didn't make the list of top 100. I was totally expecting like a number 70-100 spot. That's disappointing.

I'm amazed she was chosen for the preliminary list at all. I mean really, most people who aren't Nessaholics think of her as a one-hit wonder: ATM blew up the charts, and a lot of people knew White Houses but not nearly as many. That was basically it from her, and that was like a decade ago. So I'm very thankful she was included among the all-time greats when she could have been among the hundreds - thousands - of female artists who were excluded, but also cognizant of the fact that a list is just a list and doesn't really define anything.
Also, it's kind of hypocritical to praise her for not conforming to mainstream music trends, then be disappointed when society - which really only listens to mainstream music - doesn't acknowledge her to the extent we'd like. That's not directed to anyone in particular, just a thought that occurred to me when I saw the list at work earlier today.
So let's not frame this as "damn, she should've been higher" - let's frame this as "wow, Vanessa is considered one of the top 114 female artists, that's awesome!"
