General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Sales - "Heroes & Thieves"
« on: October 10, 2007, 10:10:36 am »
I'm thinking first week sales of around 18,000-20,000 copies, and an initial chart position of somewhere between 40 and 50. I'm hoping for it to at least scrape the top 40, but I don't think that's very likely.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Nolita Fairytale On The Radio Thread

At No. 40 on the Hot AC/Adult Top 40 list, Vanessa Carlton debuts with "Nolita Fairytale," her first Hot AC/Adult Top 40 appearance since "White Houses," a No. 27-peaking song in late 2004.
Yay, "Nolita Fairytale" is  now technically a "hit" in some respect! Let's get it higher :D

Very nice, interesting video; I think it might be my favourite of hers for the moment. Is is strange that I keep watching the piano/taxi crash scene over and over? :D

Also, be sure to leave a comment here: http://music.aol.com/popeater/2007/08/22/video-premiere-vanessa-carltons-nolita-fairytale/

Okay, sorry for the double post, but I thought this warranted a new message. I've been digging up contact info (emails, phone numbers etc.) for the major CHR/Top 40 radio stations in the U.S. From what I've heard, the smaller radio stations tend to put a song onto their playlists if it has done well in the bigger markets, so we might want to concentrate on requesting at the major stations first.

Basically, when we're requesting the song at a certain station I think what we should say or write is that we listen to that station regularly - even if we don't - so they'll be more likely to play it. Related to this, it might be a good idea to request (in the same email/message etc.) a song that they've already got in high rotation. Another important thing is to not mention that you're a Vanessa fan; instead, pretend you're somebody who doesn't know a lot about her but heard "Nolita Fairytale" and liked it.

I've also left some music video-specific links at the bottom, for when they're needed.

Well, I think it's really breezy and fresh, the perfect summer pop record - I just wish it had been released a little earlier! I still think "White Houses" is better though :)

can someone give me the background about the whole "take my record deal away" thing? and stevie nicks?? what does she have to do with this besides being a tour mate?

I think it's to do with Stevie taking Vanessa under her wing in a way, and introducing her to a new audience after A&M dropped her.

Well done czarina for finding this. If the single will be released in July, I'd guess that the album would follow in September or October. "Nolita Fairytale" is a very interesting title.

Now we know when the single is out, I think we should organise some sort of initiative for people to request the song at radio stations, vote for it on video countdowns, spread the word about it etc. We could have a thread with links and email addresses to different websites for radio and video stations. What do you think?

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Happy 5 years...

Wow, I think it's great some of you have been fans of Vanessa for so long... I didn't become a fan until late 2005. Happy Anniversary Be Not Nobody! :D

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Harmonium: The Second Anniversary
« on: November 09, 2006, 04:18:41 pm »
I'm surprised there wasn't a topic about this already, so I thought I'd start one. Well, today marks two years to the day that Harmonium was released in America and the public was treated with such a beautiful, moving and breathtaking album. "White Houses" is undoubtedly my favourite song of all time, and I might consider the album my all-time favourite as well. It seems like such a genuinely heartfelt collection of songs that I think Vanessa and Stephan Jenkins and everybody else involved should be extremely proud. It would have been nice if the album had sold millions of copies, but the important thing is that it exists for everyone who wants to seek it out, or who has done so already, to enjoy. Thank you, Vanessa, for making such a brilliant masterpiece of an album!

Okay, fangush over! :)

I know there's been speculation about this in the other thread, but this article seems to confirm it. From the News-Times (http://www.newstimeslive.com/enter/story.php?id=1019088):

Third Eye Blind planning to test new songs in Hartford
Alt-rockers intend to release 'big-sounding' album in 2007

By David Friedman
NEWS-TIMES MUSIC WRITER

...

While Third Eye Blind has almost always headlined over the years, there has been one exception. In 2002, the band toured with fellow alt-rockers the Goo Goo Dolls and singer-pianist Vanessa Carlton. Jenkins and Carlton started dating and have been together ever since. They have homes in San Francisco and Manhattan. And Jenkins is co-producing Carlton's forthcoming third album, tentatively titled "Heroes and Thieves" and due out next spring on Universal.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Vanessa -->V

I tend to take what "insiders" say with a grain of salt; regardless, I think the important things to consider are whether Vanessa is happy with the album and, to a lesser extent, whether The Inc. will promote it well. It'll be the same album no matter what stage name (or nickname) Vanessa is using.

Is it really true though?
You can't believe everything that's on Wikipedia because anyone can modify an article and some people actually put wrong stuff in there.
So unless I hear this from an official or trustworthy source, I won't believe it ;)
I'm an administrator on Wikipedia and have contributed to the Vanessa-related pages. I wrote almost all of the "A Thousand Miles" article, which I tried to make really comprehensive and which you can read at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Thousand_Miles. I'd like to note that people editing Wikipedia are strongly encouraged to cite their sources and that unreferenced content can be removed at any time. So if anybody here wants to change info in any article then they can do so (obviously), but it would be appreciated if they provided sources when they are adding or changing information. Sources for the Indonesian and other non-U.S. chart positions would be great, because the Indonesian ones aren't cited at the moment.

Now, what would be appreciated even more than that would be if anybody was willing to donate any photos they've taken of Vanessa under a free license, such as the GFDL. You may not know this, but Wikipedia is a free content encyclopedia, and we'd really prefer if unfree images (i.e. promotional photos, music video screencaps, album/single covers etc.) were only used when absolutely necessary. Also, you'd get to have your photos used in one of the most popular encyclopedias in the world.

I'm not into R&B that much, but I quite like her single "Me & U". Does the video remind anyone else of Vanessa's "White Houses" video?
