I wanna make a cd with some good piano driven songs on it & thought you guys would be perfect to ask. I'm looking for songs kind of like matthew jordan http://www.myspace.com/matthewjordan , shannon thomas http://www.myspace.com/shannonthomas & VC songs where you can really hear the piano in them. Preferably newish songs, unless it's a really good one.
If anyone could suggest me some artists & songs that would be great.

ok
i think you already know Alyssa Whellon
lol
I recommend you Kimberly Jean..

Not about Love - Fiona Apple
-
many of kristin hoffmanns songs (http://www.myspace.com/kristinhoffmann)
-
uhm...tori amos ...cornflake girl
-
Anything by Ben Folds, Tori Amos or Fiona Apple. Something Corporate/Jack's Mannequin (diff bands, same lead singer/pianist). Jamie Cullum if you like Jazz.
Also, not as well known by Allison Crowe has some good songs. I personally like her songs Midnight and Crayon and Ink. I don't know that many, but they're definitely piano driven.
-
Bright Eyes - Drunk Kid Catholic; When the Curious Girl Realizes She is Under Glass
Azure Ray - Sea of Doubts; If You Fall
No Doubt - Everything in Time (i'm not sure which version; there are two)
Orenda Fink - Blind Asylum (this song actually doesn't have any piano at all in it; it'd sound marvelous on piano, though)
Evanescence - My Immortal, Hello (yeah, cheesy, but still...)
Alanis Morrisette - Princes Familiar (the unplugged version; most of Alanis' songs have piano in them, but I can't think of any in particular at the moment).
-
Evanescence - My Immortal, Hello (yeah, cheesy, but still...)
Nothing cheesy about them :)
Alot of Ben Fold's songs (like philosophy, and Zak and Sara... omg that song hurts to play).
I also find alot of Delta Goodrem songs have good piano driven parts.
-
Existentialism on Prom night - Straylight Run
-
I seriously doubt it's a real piano, but "Unfaithful" by Rihanna. Her voice sounds horrible with ballads.
-
i dont know if know her music how about
joni mitchell-court&spark, windycity.
-

*throws up*
Everything from her voice to the synth strings makes me cringe.

omg that's my favorite song right now lol im definitely putting it on there. im not a huge fan of hip-hop, but i really like her for some reason & she was pretty good when i saw her back in May.
Thanks for all of your suggestions, i'm always up for more. i'm gonna check out all of the songs & artists soon.

That SONG is just horrible. The lyrics are poorly written too. The tune is catchy, and that piano bit sounds good, but when my manager and I heard it the first time, we laughed & laughed. "I don't wanna be.... a MURDERAHHHHHHH!" hahaha
And Laura, don't be offended just because you like the song and I don't.

Lmao. That song is SO painful to listen to- at first i was like 'oh okay, this could be alright' but then i was overwhelmed by the immense whining that is Rhianna's voice.
-
Yeah, I feel bad for whoever wrote the music to that song because it's good music. But the lyrics and her voice just kill me, haha. Stick to SOS, Rihanna =P

Vienna is wicked cool, Gina got me into her music a few years ago. My favorite piano songs are Gravity, The Tower, and Lullaby for a Stormy Night

Once again with the pain and disagreement and animosity and hate and I love it all...
It's not that it's bad because Rihanna can't sing, it's bad because Rihanna's voice doesn't match it at all. The music is very mellow, whereas Rihanna's voice is very . . . overwhelming...
-
And those lyrics are crappy too.
-
yeah rihanna...."unfaithful"....bad lyrics..(and voice too..)
but coming back to the topic piano driven songs....how 'bout Five for Fighting...100 years...superman...
and oh yeah sarah mclahclan...too
-
And those lyrics are crappy too.
Yeah, and that.
I totally forgot about Sarah. I love Sarah! She needs a new album out. But Five for Fighting isn't going to sell very well with their new album; his (for my purposes Five for Fighting is one person) new single has no hook whatsoever and bores the hell out of me.

No way.. I'm listening to her music for the first time right now cuz I heard "whatever you want" at promosquad a while ago & just saw your reply, how funny. I'm listening to the songs on her site & they are really good.

Maybe I'm a little late, but I have to suggest Aslyn. And if I had to choose just one song by her, it would be an easy choice: "Wally."
Songs don't usually make me cry, but this one does - almost every time!! It's one of my all-time favorite songs & it's piano-driven.
-
Kate Bush: This Woman's Work
Shakira: La Pared (Acoustic Version)
Kelly Clarkson: Beautiful Disaster (Live) - the version on her first album is crap, but the version off "Breakaway" is beautiful
-
^^ Yeah the version on Breakaway is really good! I agree, though I've never heard the other to compare.
I forgot to mention Marit Larsen before. She has a website and a myspace. She plays guitar and piano. The piano songs I can think of are called "Under the Surface" and "Solid Ground".
-
Yeah I have Kelly's cd & the song is really good. I actually did hear it live on Tuesday when I saw her haha it was amazing.
-
fiona apple - not about love
rachael yamagata - i want you
regina spektor - samson
-

-
Alanis Morrisette - Princes Familiar (Unplugged)
-
"Hoppípolla" by Sigur Rós
"This is me", "What we hate we make", "Around the Clock", "I was so alone", "Never Knew" and "Story" by The Rocket Summer
"Breathe me" by Sia
"Pretty Dress" by Rosie Thomas
"Something like a hero" by Charlotte Martin
"Boston" by Augustana
-
"How to Save a Life" - The Fray !!!!
-
Keri Noble has some good piano songs. Talk To Me is probably the most famous one but since I have most of her albums she has a few songs on her CD Lullaby that are pretty piano driven like Pass, Lullaby, and Four Candles. In fact most of the CD are piano songs.

Check out Kimberly Jean.. she has a beautiful voice! I love I dont wanna be right
-
Amanda Stott.
I know this topic's over a year old, but I had to contribute.
-
I would want to contribute too! Check out Holly Brook, her debut album "Like Blood, Like Honey" is AMAZING!!! Almost like a Vanessa angsty, dark, depressing but sometimes happy woman with amazing vocals!
-
anything by Regina Spektor.
-
A Fine Frenzy's stuff is fantastic.....Rangers off her new album is heavy with the piano.....
-
have u heard of this song, "Blue"by joni mitchell
