Celebs Weigh-In with Whole Foods
Filed under: green and famous, food & drink — rebecca @ 6:52 pm
Whole Foods is asking you to participate in their Whole Earth Weigh-in: 30 Way in 30 Days. It’s all part of Earth month and they want you to measure and reduce that carbon footprint of yours.
In fact, they’ve even asked some celebs what they think about the program. Lauren Bush wants in, also saying, “The thing I always try to do beyond recycling when I can, and also turn of the water and lights when I’m not using them. But the biggest thing, which is now becoming more accessible in food and in other industries, is to buy green and become a conscious consumer!”
Sandra Bernhard looked through all of the 30 eco-tips (pdf) that Whole Foods recommends and chose her fave. It’s #19, Switch to Organics.
Finally, Vanessa Carlton pulled out all of the stops and offered up tips of her own! Saying:
I always turn lights off when I leave a room.
Unplug chargers when not using them.
When possible I bring a cloth bag to the grocery store.
Also, take the subway!!!! It’s quicker than a cab and you’ll sit there knowing you are saving our planet little by little.
If you get espresso to go, always forgo the top and paper ring. If you add those up everyday you end up saving sooo much paper.
In general I try to buy paper products that look brownish and hearty. Like oatmeal. Crisp white paper is a thing of the past.
Whole foods is my food haven. I always buy organic. They carry great cleaning products too. I trust their sources totally.
I love celebs that ride the subway
she's such a hippie

I bet she's celebrating 4/20 tomorrow! =]

I hope she does not. That would be beneath her.

I didn't know she was so responsible.

Funny little article.

ahahaha I know, and mary janes... heh heh heh happy 4/20!
-
do you really think that she does pot?
No, she seems intelligent enough NOT to do anything like that.
-
O please, there's nothing wrong with that! Pot is safe! And it's fun
-
Have you ever noticed how many conversations go from conservation and protecting the earth to.......let's be green!........to pot! pot! pot!!!
Clover, green grass, and dandelions are green too, but you never hear people have a fixation on.......I just mowed my lawn!
-
O please, there's nothing wrong with that! Pot is safe! And it's fun
PLEASE.
It kills your brain cells, right? What's fun about that?
-
Pot may be fun but it ain't safe!
-
I was under the impression that Vanessa smoked pot? Didn't she say in an interview that her voice is deep from smoking pot or something along that line? I don't really have anything wrong with it. I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm finding out slowly that everyone I look up to or admire both in high school and even in Hollywood do something like that. It doesn't bother me anymore.
-

PLEASE.

obviously you've never tried it before :D
-
Some people value their brain cells. It's uncommon, but I swear it's true.
-
first of all, i think it's retarded that people here would look down on her (or anyone) for smoking weed. second, i hate to break it to you guys, but she does.
-
erm....I walk to work everyday. But it is also for efficiency as much as to save the world....maybe more so. I actually planned it that way. I walk whenever I can to go where I need. I use cloth bags when I go shopping for food when I remember or can but I go to trader joes and costco instead. I know whole foods is hip and they have great food there (I have bought food there,) but right now my lifestyle doesn't have them in the picture. i don't mind buying inorganic food for the time being. I also just eat way too many vegetables and try to buy them in bulk in order to support that lifestyle. I live a more earth friendly lifestyle than most environmentalists, without really trying. I use florescent light bulbs like I have since they started making them to save money and energy.
About pot, who cares. I can see myself smoking it, no big deal. But I'm not going to promote it either, or use it all the time. I'm sick of hearing the virgin and whore plurality on pot use.
-
I have to agree, I don't care who says "Pot is fun and safe! Its harmless it just makes you happy." Bullshit. Its bad for you, its not natural, its soaked in chemicals that burn your lungs more than smoking a whole pack of cigarettes . I think Vanessa Carlton is amazing, and if she does indeed do pot, its beneath her in my opinion and she's not the person I thought she was. I look down on people who drink, smoke, and do ANY type of DRUG! INCLUDING MARIJUANA.
-
honestly, i dont care who smokes pot and who dosnt. do whatever the hell you want. if vanessa does, whatever lol she is making amazzzzing music and she is a good person! and we are all here to enjoy her music and how creative she is! so maybe we should drop the subject?
-
newsflash: musicians smoke weed. not all of them. but a hell of a lot of them.
and really, no one has the right to judge pot smokers or anybody else. pot smokers don't give a you-know-what if people DON'T smoke weed, they tend not to judge people who don't smoke, so why should they get judged? it's a personal lifestyle choice and it's none of anyones' business except the person who chooses to do it.
if a person smokes pot, they are making the decision to do it and the decision to hurt their own lungs. it's not up to anyone else (with the exception of law enforcement, since it's illegal) to do or say anything about it.
and if you choose to disrespect everyone in the world who smokes weed, you are going to be disrespecting an awful lot of people, including a vast number of musicians. i hope the non-smokers don't get too lonely in your ipods

very well said amber beads. I for the longest time was completely against it.. but i felt hipocritical being against something i had never even experienced, so i tried it 2 times.. (didnt really work the first time) but i understand why people enjoy it and would want to feel relaxed. Now, I don't advocate doing it on an everyday basis bc that's just gluttonous in my opinion, but I can't get hate all pot smokers for wanting to relax just the way anyone who likes to have a DRINK after work would want to... ohh but we don't judge people on that do we? They had to be borderline alcoholics or worse for us to think anything of it.. it's messed up. People forget ALCOHOL is a drepressant drug just like Marijuana.
Furthermore, If vanessa smokes weed, that is her choice. I enjoy her music regardless, as we all should. 8)
ordinaryday, you seem so sure when saying she did. How do you know?
-
I live a straight edge lifestyle and know many people who stay away from all drugs. I like it that way.
As Sarah Michelle Gellar says: "I am militant about drugs. You want to do 'em? You're out of my life."
When she said that I looked up to her even more.
Sure, if a person wants to do drugs they can do that. Its not my life its theirs. if they want to hurt their own lungs, brain cells, whatever then they can do that! But I don't want to be around them and if you want to do them around me you can take your behind else where.
-
i think it's retarded that people here would look down on her (or anyone) for smoking weed.
I know, right.
-

That's great. More power to you. But nobody is looking down on you for making that choice, and frankly, they deserve the same respect.
-
It's ok that you don't want to be around pot smokers while they are smoking, but taking them completely out of your life just for doing that is, honestly, stupid. You can loose a lot of great people that way.
-
she can do what she want in her life. i think people can do what they want with their life, somoke or not potis not a problem to me.
the article is funny and i can know this side of vanessa!
-
whoa whoa whoa people... why would you ever look down on someone for smoking weed? That's such a way to judge a book by a cover... and so condescending. Some of the coolest people I know are the biggest stoners I know. I can see why you would respect someone for resisting a somewhat unhealthy influence, but just because someone's personal lifestyle doesn't perfectly match your values doesn't mean that they're bad people or should be looked down upon. That's serious bullshit. Furthermore, I really think weed is okay in moderation. I used to be a serious stoner... started just once a day and then soon enough it was morning afternoon and night. To be honest, I started feeling it's effects on my memory and motivation. I know that doesn't happen to all stoners... some can handle obscene amounts to relatively little consequence. For me, pot was starting to become more of an escape from stress or what not and I realized that you just gotta face the world no matter how much teen angst you have. Don't get me wrong, I got to school in Boulder. I still smoke, just not as much. Weed can be an awesome thing for you intellectually, both when your high on it, and when you're not. And it is an AMAZING tool for musicians. The only song I've composed in one sitting was one I wrote when I was stoned. Anyway, nuff said. I've gone on too long again! Oh and here's a pic from Norlin Quad on Friday... it was unbelievable!

^Wow, that picture is crazy! Notice how many other people are taking pictures at that exact same moment.

I think pot is really bad. It is so bad for your skin, and complexion. I detest people when they use it. I have the right to criticize people that use pot because it is illegal, and I have free will. I think the sara Michelle gellar quote is so true. I don't understand it. I think it is immature, and pointless, why do it. I hate when people use it in a public setting too. I only understand it if you are going through chemotherapy , or have some HUGE disease... If someone uses a drug to better their music that means to me that they are not capable of doing it alone by themselves. I would like your proof that vanessa does pot also.

Thank you Steve, I admire you for saying that and believe everything you have said. I do hope she does not, and if she does, please show some proof! For now I will keep that thought out of my mind.

I think when people parade around that they are getting high, or do it for fun, in public, or think they are the coolest thing for using a drug. I think it is stupid. I have the right to look down on them people do it every day

prostitutes, strippers, whores
people that don't have the same religious values
drug addicts
homeless people
People that are in a social class or two below you
robbers
Big business people
fat people
This is just a list of common things that I notice. Opinions are like ass holes everyone has one... You can not change that. If someone is going to be a role model they should not do things like that. I mean I understand that if she does it she does not parade it around, but I just would hoe so she is a kind of a role model to me. I am not saying that I am
-
you are amazing steve. be a public speaker!
She is a role model to many children and teens, and many of you adults who want to use that substance do it, whatever. But to tell kids thats how she gets her inspiration is just wrong. Because then they will go and do it, and believe me they will. Be better than drugs, if you don't want too then fine. I really do like being drug-free and healthy.
-
^^^ Woah.... I'm sure V does not write her music while under the influence of pot....and most of her songs seem to just be inspired by her life....ATM, Who's To Say, San Francisco... I'm not saying that she doesn't do it....I really don't care and I'd like her no less if she did....What she does in her free time really doesn't affect my life all that much... Her songs just really aren't that trippy :)

Well you certainly have the right to look down on people.. be my guest. It's all relative. I really can't discern whether you're saying that you lose all respect for someone who smokes pot, or just a little respect. Would you be their friend before you found out they smoked? After? If not, I consider you seriously close-minded and uneducated.
Also, those items in your list... do you mean to say that you look down on anyone who matches one of those descriptions? Or are you saying that you have the right to look down on pot smokers, just as others have the right to look down on homosexuals, or fat people, or successful businessmen? Either way, it's an aweful comparison.. I would seriously think twice about taking up public speaking.
oh and I just found this link, although not sure how credible it is:

lol that article is retarded. i wouldn't put any faith into it at all.
-
I have the right to look down on them people do it every day
"Judge, I ran the red light because...well...people do it every day."
"I hit him in the face because people do it every day."
"I stole from the liquor store because, people do it everyday."
"I smoked pot because people do it everyday."
It is not a great argument. I don't care what this is about I just hate that argument. You can use it to justify anything. Opinion or not. And people use that argument everyday.....
-
i just don't understand why people can't have respect for other peoples' choices. you don't have to agree with those choices in order to respect the fact that they have the right to make them. especially people who know nothing about pot.
-
I don't respect anyone for choosing to put illegal drugs in their body or lifestyle. 8O
-
i say life is short. do what you want.
she's not harming anyone and it obviously hasn't affected her songwriting ability.
i don't smoke pot, but i'm not here to judge people who do it.

You can't put on the same category people who look down on robbers and people who look down on someone else because of their race, sexual orientation, religion, or social class.
It's ok to look down on robbers or people who are hurting others. Thinking people do this.
It is awful and wrong to look down on people because of their race, sexual orientation, religion, or social class. People who do this are usually ignorants and fanatics.
Of course everyone should be free to think what they want, but still there are no logical reasons to look down on someone because of something so superficial.
-
Hey, people! Why can't we all just get a bong? 8)

I lolled.
Seriously, you people could start an argument in a morgue if you wanted to.
Now lets all get along, put our differences on pot aside and spread the nessalove.
Peace and love, and all that crap.

An alternate name for dandelions is "pissabeds" because of their diuretic properties. The French name, "pissenlit" is a direct translation.

It's even funnier cuz I read that as "get along" the first time.

Wow @ this topic.
Um....GO VANESSA!
