Title: What exactly is Morning Sting?
Post by: initially_yours on June 14, 2007, 04:47:08 pm
It's my favourite nessa song right now, but... what exactly is morning sting?  Hopefully, I don't sound too stupid right there.

I've heard of the song but I never heard it before. Anyone know where I can listen to it?

Morning Sting is about emotions being so raw in the morning.

I always took it to mean how a bad memory can "sting" you in the morning, before one is fully awake.  Say you break up with someone.  Totally sucks.  You go to sleep, you wake up, you're in that sleepy haze, then you remember the break-up and you're like "Aw f***!"

I never really thought of it that way... but that makes sense.

In a way I just thought it was like you waking up and like just waking up on the wrong side of the bed so to speak or something like that.

hahaha i always thought it was funny to think about it like a "one night stand" kinda thing... what looked soo good last night, in the morning light isn't so sexy anymore... stiiing. haha though im sure that was not what vanessa was trying to convey

it's really a pretty and interesting song. The piano is nice. The lyrics come from wisdom and expierience, I'm sure.

This is my favourite Vanessa song  :D

I think it is a pain you get deep in your self when you are depressed and have to face another day knowing that there is beauty but you cannot feel that you are a part of it.... "...living in a golden afternoon that I'll never know". Reminds me of Shakespeare's Hamlet.

can someone please explain this part?

Quote
Picture perfect
She'll follow his icy politic
Can't cut a girl in bloom

^ I think it's about a relationship and how she is obsessed with this guy who is cruel and "cold", but how on the outside nobody knows what is going on and they think she is in this "blossoming" relationship... that's how I take it.

huh that makes sense. I love that line... can't cut a girl in bloom. Always confused me tho. Thanks!

well being both a nessaholic and a third eye blind fan, that stanza means a whole lot more to me

in the third eye blind song "Forget myself" he refers to a girl in bloom..

"I go crazy when you walk in the room
I laugh at myself with the girl in bloom
The taste of sex couldn’t be too soon
all afternoon"

and also in "cant get away"

"And I’m taking off your clothes
And you bloom like a rose"

... and later in the song

"I recognize that pose
When you bloomed like a rose"

now any third eye blind fan knows that the majority of the material recorded on "Out of the Vein" had alot to do with SJ's breakup with Charlize Theron. I guess Vanessa had a response in "morning sting".. with

"Picture perfect
she'll follow his icy politic
can't cut a girl in bloom"

maybe, there is some correlation? Maybe vanessa was saying how she will never be charlize and almost feels like theres no use in trying to compete with her. So she continues to follow sj's regimen, accepting that she'll never be quite good enough. His politic is being so courteous and 'loving' while they both know how eachother really feels.

does that make any sense to any other 3eb fan ? lol

that's really deep. I never would have known that. But who knows if that could be the case.

did any one say that was deep? because it is

and even if that interpretation is incorrect, I think I like it the most

haha well thank you guys.. Yeah i was a nh before i was REALLY into 3eb, then i heard that song, and it clicked with morning sting.. maybe vanessa responded in morning sting since i think "forget myself" was recorded first.

Actually that's kind of what I always thought of it as...
especially when you take a look at the lyrics during the bridge
