Title: 07/14/2007: Mellon Auditorium - Washington, D.C.

i just got home. definitely worth driving 6 hours round trip for. she was awesome and beautiful and i cannot say enough good things about her. i always gush, but my god, she is amazing. first of all, i pictured this as being a bunch of people dressed in basketball uniforms... but my friend and i were one of the few people NOT wearing dresses or suits. ugh. it was an extremely nice party. we ate their fancy food with names that i couldn't begin to pronounce, and got drunk on delicious blue hawaiian drinks...mmm. ok to the good part. setlist:

ordinary day
nolita fairytale
heroes and thieves
hands on me
a thousand miles
home

oh, and did i mention i was the only person standing at the stage over the age of 5? yeah. good times. so after the show i walked to the backstage area and got to talking to the lady who had put me on the list. then mark came out and saw me and invited me to come see vanessa, so i went back there... and he goes "vanessa...guest" and points to me, and she jumped up off the couch and came over and gave me a hug. she said "ooo what's that blue drink??" and i said, "i don't know, but it's really good." i was pretty drunk at this point. and i told her good things like the new songs just touch my soul...ya know... all the things a good drunk fan should say, and she kept hugging me. i told her i think The One is probably the best song she's written and she told me stevie is singing back up on it, and she apologized for not playing it. she said she had planned on it but had to shorten the set. don't remember much else, but she said she would see me in new york and that i shouldn't have anymore blue drinks hahaha. i took some videos. i'll post them asap... it's nothing you haven't heard yet, but i'll do it soon.

Awesome Nicole. Too funny. Definitely had my share of drunk fan moments. Haha. Wish we could have been there  but glad you could represent Nh.com.

And yeah, Vanessa's sweet, I was surprised when she hugged me outside the Canal Room showcase.
Definitely a great moment for me.  :oops:

haha... well i've been meeting her on a pretty regular basis for over 5 years now, so it wasn't too shocking. her and mark were saying how i've been coming to these things since day 1... mark was like "are you at like 50 by now?" haha. but i liked how it wasn't a "fan" setting. we were just hanging out talking. i wouldn't have asked for a pic or autograph or anything. it was just fun to talk to her like a real person instead of "here, sign this."

Wow, that was amazing. I'm glad you had a great time!! I would have loved to just sit and have a conversation with her like that. It reminds me of my night with Marla Sokoloff. She was just talking with me the whole night (before and after the show) as if I was a really good friend. Even gave me a hug, and knew right away who I was.  :oops: I wish I could have had the same kind of experience with V.

I would be soo irritated if i was V and the crowd was that loud..id probably say something.lol

oh, i was looking down a lot bcuz i discovered that the recorder was eating my tape. i was trying to fix it, but that was a no go... so i don't have any recording except for the videos i took.

To be honest, the piano she was playing on sounded like crap, especially for Nolita Fairytale. And why did she just play chords for the "I walk the streets with the sun on my hair" parts? It seemed like she was going for minimalism to bring focus to the lyrics, but with that piano and the lack of using the sustain pedal it already sounded minimalistic ...
