I'm torn between 4 and 7... I chose four first because I just loved all the new creatures and action in it but 7 was really good too, a lot darker themed and it's immediately thrown to action. :)
-
I haven't read the last book, but I thought each book got better and better.
-
I never read them
I dont like the movies either. I tried watching the first one, couldnt even finish it.
I'm not a Pothead.
-
I said Deathly Hallows...but I guess I meant Order of the Phoenix  I duno, they're both the best
-
I really liked the 6th book.

The books are for children. Why do adults insist on reading them?
She's a bad author who tells cute stories with no depth and no creativity.
Do. Not. Understand.
Now the movies, on the other hand, are cute summer fantasy stories. Very enjoyable. But the books.... if you aren't 12, I can show you 100 books that are infinitly better in the same genre. And if you want to read kids books that badly, I can even one-up you there.
I guess I should just be happy that people are READING.
-
Grakky, have you read the 5th, 6th, or 7th books? The first two could pass as children's books, but I would have a hard time giving books 5, 6, or 7 to a 7 or 8 year-old.
Just me. I've liked the books since I was 11 or so.

If these are children's books, then these are the best children's books ever written... perhaps that is why they are so popular. Why is it not okay for an adult to enjoy an children's story? Certainly Aesop's fables have plenty of value for anybody. Clearly you are virtually alone with your opinion, considering the massive success of these novels, or stories, as you call them. As an author, I think she is tremendously creative, having created a virtually flawless fantasy world that so many people can dive into. Her writing style is simple, but that does not mean she is a horrible writer. I suggest you read a couple chapters into book 7... i noticed a tremendous difference in her writing there -- much more mature. Come to think of it, I think her style fits the books' purposes just fine.

ok so andrew i love you but my dad is 62 and he was the first one to start reading these books in my family about 8 years befor i started - if they are kids books they must be the most successful crossover of markets of all time
xoxo
book 5 is the hardest to read its taken me 3 days to get to page 300... anyone else feel these way?
-
How funny! I just started reading the first book. :)
-
I voted for #7, although #4 is a close second to me.
-
Voted for number 4... that one was really neat and not at all that serious...It was kinda lighter toned and gradually came to a serious ending, which was more of a beginning...( you know what I mean...) but what i think amazes me is the amount of mystery that she manages to underly very discreetly in this "kids" book... I mean tho it is kinda crappy that she uses D'dore as a scape goat(i know...too exagerated a term...) to kinda explain why certain things were happening at the end of almost(I'm not giving anything away...;)...) every book... But I've definitely enjoyed the mystery ,the adventure and of course the unpredictability of this world which as someone said is flawless...
Oh and yes steph... the fifth book took me very long to complete... and it was a very very dark book... Grimauld place just gives you the creeps...
-
they're not just for children! what kinda stupid comment was that? lol sorry, but just cause its fiction doesnt mean its for kids.
-
i read two books the sorcerer's stone and the goblet of fire. so i voted for number 4.
-
For some reason I'm really happy to see, for once, a poll where most people aren't totally infatuated with HP. I love literature and I read all the time, but Harry Potter just does not appeal to me. I tried to read the first book and couldn't get through the first couple pages. It seemed corny. And I didn't like the movies at all either.
-
I'm one of those annoying people who only watches the movies and doesn't read the books. I love reading but as a grad student, I read WAY too much for class so the only extra reading I have time for is nonfiction and by that I mean emails and these boards. haha. And usually I don't even have time for that!
Anyways, I just saw the newest movie and it is my least fav - interesting to see no one voted for that book. So, I can't account for any of the books that are not yet movies but my fav is 3 or 4.

The books are just so FUN... you have to read one of the last before the movies come out. You simply hawwf to.
-
i finished them all a week or two ago
and the 7th was my favorite
the movies kinda suck once you read the books
they are superbly cast, however so much important stuff is left out - like hello - winky and spew - though both annoying a very reoccuring (racist/oppressive) theme and messege throughout the books and totally skipped
anywho
anyone else wanna chime in with extremely frustrating overlooked things in the books....
oh also rita skeeter - she is way more horrid in the books than in the movies
-
I read only the #2,3,4
and the #4 was the best.

Reading between the trolling lines: Grakthis beats it to Emma Watson. The book has no pics of Emma Watson, and thus fails horribly.
Narnia is for kids, yet they're read and enjoyed by people of all ages. Lord of the Rings? Same deal. But why am I bothering with this? Grak is on my ignore list for good reason, and I'm on his for good reason. XD
BV wrote he disliked the first move. Well, I kinda do too. That and the sencond one. The books are the weaker entries in the series, and this translates onto the screen as well. Plus, Columbus sucked at directing them. O:)
OT, I voted for 4. I LOVE Goblet of Fire. Read though it when it came out in a couple of days, then once I hit the end, started over right on the spot. That was just great, before Harry went into his emo teen stage in Book 5, and when the books started to get darker.
Although I do like 5 and 7 (not my daughter, you bitch!) a lot too.
-
Why isn't there an option for "I never read them because it's just a bunch of bullshit"?
-
i never read them but i did see harry potter nekkkid. ;p hehehe
-
I remember reading 2 of them. but that's all!
-
Prinsoner Of Azkaban has always been a favorite of mine!
-
I've only read the first four, and out of those I really like 'Goblet of Fire' best, closely followed by 'Chamber of Secrets'.
-
The Deathly Hallows was my fav!! it was action packed the whole way through.
-
The only one of these I've seen in full is Order of the Pheonix, which I was
very impressed with. The popularity and success of the books has made a
real difference to the resources available to creators of the films, and this
is likely to be matched only by Disney's efforts with the Narnia Chronicles
Peace

I voted 6. I just loved it. However I kinda like to go back and read 1,2 and 3 because it was all before any of the serious dark mysterious stuff happened, idk those ones are fun.
-
I really liked the fifth one.
Same with the movie. I`m so excited for the new movie.
-
I'm so happy thier splitting the 7 movie. nothing will be left out
-
I'm surprised that so many people did not read the books!
there was such hype on it!
I prefer the third one :D
-

They're splitting it?
What do you mean?
-
The 7 movie will be done in two parts. That way the close all knots covered in the books and secretly I think Warner Brothers feels the need to strecth this bread winner as far as it will go.
The bad side.......we'll probably have to wait another year for the second part.
-
Awhahhwhah. :(
-
I don't enjoy them, but I know a girl who IS CRAZY about HP, she has gutted half of her closet and FILLED it with Harry Potter stuff, its crazy, if V had merchandise like that, i would definatly do that to my closet.
-
Wow, nothing will ever fit in my closet in a million years.
It's so messed up.
-
I used to be into the merchandise, but I felt it got too overboard like every other "fad"
-
she is totally overboard, trust me. but at least its contained to one spot/
-
I like watching like, the fifth Harry Potter movie and then going back to watch the first one and seeing how tiny they all look.
Like little midget people 'cause they're really young compared to now.
-

True :D
