Okay, does anyone else have ridiculous school dress codes? Not uniforms, but dress codes.
This year, it's being enforced that girls must wear collared or crew-neck shirts only (NO boatnecks, either). If collarbone is exposed, you will be "written up".
If you wear a collared shirt, it can only be unbuttoned two buttons at most.
All shirts must cover your beltloops or a belt must be worn. If the lenght of your t-shirt goes past your wrists, you have to tuck in your shirt.
Shorts must be 4 inches above the knee. Dresss and skirts must be 2 inches above the knee.
No sunglasses on campus, including the parking lot (I don't know how they would be able to know if we wore sunglasses driving to school, which we should to protect our eyes anyway.)
No hats, bandanas, or "head paraphinalia (sp?)."
It's only the fourth year that our school has existed and I think our dress code is getting out of control. I really think we should just get uniforms because it's so much easier for everybody, and it's a lot cheaper. That way kids don't have to have a separate "school wardrobe" and "weekend wardrobe."
Anyone else have problems like this?
-
Sounds like your school got taken over by an elementary or middle school principal.

Mother of elementary school children.
Everyone hates this woman; the parents and the staff. There's rumors that she's been in an issue of Hustler years ago  I'm not buying that at all.

OMG. Scream, run, and never look back.
-
yeahhhhhhhhh,
if no one does that...then it can't really be enforced.
-
I don't know. Sounds fine to me. It's pretty loose considering what the dress code was at my HS.
Long sleeve button up shift, tie, belt, dress shoes. Jacket or Sweater in the winter. Dress pants.
No hair touching your collar, must be clean shaven and must meet the general standards of the dean.
-
We don't have that problem at my school. You can dress like a sl*t and it's fine. Well, just don't show too much. :)
It's kind of sad to tell you the truth... they don't really enforce the dress code.
-
Ours is strict. We have to wear our top buttons done up with a tie. Its choking :(
-
This is going to be my senior year and the first year ever that our school has resulted to wearing uniforms!
I am not happy with it. I feel that you should be able to express yourself freely and one of the ways in doing that is to dress independently. I feel as if we're being categorized into one group and I like to be looked at as an individual.
-
well we don't wear uniforms. We still have a dress code but nothing to extreme you just cant show up all sluty or all whatever but I never really hear anything of like the way to dress for school at my school.
-
rawr. like whoa. =/ i don't believe we have a dress code. it's like... "use common sense." and i think the only thing mandated is ... shoes. o_o;; i mean, i've seen the swim team guys hanging around shirtless during school hours. not by the pool, either. mmm. and when halloween rolls around- some of the costumes are very blush-worthy.
-
To the OP - this is a public school? If so, then holy crap.

My thoughts exactly, and yes, it is.
-
ugh..I go to a private school and we barely have a dress code..
-
i go to a public school and we have a dress code
you can only wear collared shirts that are solid and black brown or gray pants / shorts/ or skirts knee length only and a seperate gym uniform
black or brown shoes and solid white black or gray tennis shoes and your shirt must be tucked in at all times  i hate it

You're a minor so you're not entitled to express anything. Get over it.

Not for the whole of Senior year...

I go to a private school and our dress code is polo shirts and pants with pockets and belt loops (aka cargo, khakhi, anything of that nature). Oh, and we can wear sandals, we just have to have socks.

yeah, what I was thinking... 8O
Anyways, yeah. I guess i'm kind of glad that I go to a public school, you can just wear what you want (to a certain extent of course  , we don't wan anyone looking like a cheap ass ho, unless of course they ARE a cheap ass ho). JK.
Then again, having a dress code does sort of equalizes everyone, which is good because I have a seen a lot of people criticized or prejudiced because of what they wear and it just sucks. So...

I think that with like black nike or adidas flip flops they look fine. Maybe I'm just used to it.

Am I supposed to take that as 'don't complain because adults won't listen to kids' or taken literally as 'your opinion doesn't matter because you're a minor' ?
-
The no sunglasses rule is ridiculous. For one, there's likely a handful of kids whose prescription glasses transition in the sun who are going to have a spent a sh*tload of money on new glasses or (hopefully) will be tolerated.
Plus, wearing sunglasses outside should be encouraged, not forbidden. That's how old people end up with bad eyesight (well, that's not necessarily true, but it makes a good complaint).
-
i went to a private high school and my uniform wasn't even as strict as that dress code. ours were kind of cute actually... like from the "baby one more time" video. and it was all girls, so they didn't care that our skirts barely covered out butts.
i would complain until they changed it.
-
I just graduated from highschool, I really wished we had uniforms, some of the clothes girls wear are gross, i dont want to see anyones boobs or ass. and it's not just the girls, it's the guys too, they wear thier jeans like down to thier ankles. I think having to wear a uniform would be a good idea. also maybe if they also allowedyou to dress it up with any accessories you want, then it wouldnt be a big deal.

Not wearing sunglasses causes your eye to be exposed to excessive UV rays - even on a cloudy day. Excessive UV can damage your retinas and, over time, can cause cloudiness to form in your lenses, known as cataracts. So, I think it makes a very good argument.
-
Also, the teachers are allowed to wear sunglasses on campus, but us kids can't.
Oh, I have an update, too. In every single class there's a big sign hanging up at the front of the room saying "DRESS CODE: STRICLY ENFORCED".
That's all they f**king care about, I swear.

What I say is **** it in the *** with a splintered broomhandle.
-
Your dress code is crazy. Seriously, I'd switch schools.
I think we should be able to express our individuality and how can we when everyone looks the same (ie. uniforms)
Luckily, our schools dress code isnt really...there. You can basially wear what ever you want except for really short skirts, spaghetti straps, tank tops, and gangster stuff.
The really weird rule they have though is no hugging. Not even your friends =/
We do it anyways.
-
I go to a private school and we are restriced to wearing a uniform. It's cute though. The girls look like slutty Catholic schoolgirls and the boys look like hot schoolboys.

It doesn't really matter how you take it because the results are the same.
Your opinions don't matter because you're a minor, which is why adults don't listen to you.
You do not get a say. You accept what you're given and you deal with it.

That's not always true. My mom wanted me to get a BMW 328i convertible but I wanted a Mercedes CLK 350 convertible. So I threw a tantrum and I got the car I wanted. So minors do have a say sometimes!! :)
-
well yeah but thats just about a car we were saying like thibgs that impact other people
-

Who cares about other people? I have the hottest car.
-
yeah, because you know your car is soooo important...
-
Hot cars are so over-rated.
And honestly, who judges people by a car? That's just sterotypical and wrong.
They could be driving a rusty piece of metal with a motor and I couldn't care less. Its the personality that couts.
Sorry if that was off topic but I hate it when people brag about material things.
-
And I cannot believe you said
"Who cares about other people. I have the hottest car."
Do you know how snobby and inconsiderate that sounds?
Say, if some little country in Asia was gonna die a horrible death and the only way to save them would be to give up your precious car, would you do it? Would you risk your treasured vehicle to save the lives of innocent people?
No. Because who cares about people right? Just as long as you have your "hot car."[/i]

Are you fucking stupid? I'm not even going to bother answering anything you asked.

That's not always true. My mom wanted me to get a BMW 328i convertible but I wanted a Mercedes CLK 350 convertible. So I threw a tantrum and I got the car I wanted. So minors do have a say sometimes!! :)
Only because your mother DECIDED, out of the kindness of her heart, to let your voice matter.
But your mother was the one who had to make the decision and the purchase.
Also, if you think this is the kind of community that cares one way or the other about what kind of car you pretend your mommy bought you, you're seriously confused. You should find a different website to post on. One that's more pretentious and will actually argue with you about your faux-internet life.
-
And no, Im not stupid but thank you for asking.

Well there's always the other side, that he is just trying to show off, which doesn't work when you mention, you had a tantrum, too your mum... Spoilt or Immature?
-
Wait, is that soup-whatever person a boy or a girl?
god Im so confused =/

I'd assume he's a boy, since he loves his car
-
Hmm true.
Sorry, I know I sound kind of like a mod for staying this, but I think we're a little off topic.
-
I'm a guy. Grakthis, go shoot yourself. I'm gonna edit your birthday thread. Just because I have a $60,000 dollar car doesn't mean you have to be a disgusting jealous bitch. God. I hate people like you.
-
Okay, returning to the topic at hand.
I go to a public school. We basically wear a uniform, shirt, jumper, skirt, black shoes, tie [optional] and yea. Only rule, not allowed to wear tights.
-
Wearing a uniform would be torture ... :(
-
The girls in my school must wear black pumps that the school provides. They can't wear any other shoes.
-
Black pumps?
EEK!
-
Yes.
-
I feel bad for them...
I prefer flip flops :D
-
That's really unclassy according to the headmaster. In the school handbook it says the reason girls are told to wear pumps is to improve their posture and make them more ladylike.
-
over at my high school you can wear anything within limits of course but they are not all that strict and I never see anyone wearing like anything riducoulus anyways so its not to bad over here
-
Improve posture?
Psssh...
-
Personally, I think it's better that way. The uniform would look pathetic with sneakers anyway.
-
True.Im not a big sneakers fan.
Except for converses....
-
I think sneakers on girls go well with pants, but with a skirt pumps or flip flops work best.
-

Little boy, if you think a 60K car impresses me, you have no clue about the world I live in.
Your hatred for me just means that all is right in the world. If the mouse didn't hate the falcon, the falcon wouldn't be doing his job.

The world you live in? As in Kentucky? What do you drive, a tractor?

Minors don't get their say? Now that is the single most discriminatory thing I've ever heard so far. It sounds like you're actually agreeing with that. Then again, nobody's listening to this, so why bother?
Returning to the topic, we don't have a dress code. We wear itchy plaid uniforms instead, and an all-white version of it during the days we have Mass. D:
-
yours probably isnt much of a big deal
my catholic school sucks -______-
so many rules.
