September 24, 2007 -- FROM whom does Mariah Carey need Secret Service-style protection? Page Six spotted the smiling star at the Save the Music event at Lincoln Center Thursday night flanked by eight massive bodyguards. As a friendly Mariah made her way around the tent greeting fellow music industry folks John Mayer, John Sykes and Jon Bon Jovi, her goons intently blocked other guests from her path with commands of "Get out of the way! Mariah's coming!" They also shut down the bathroom for 10 minutes while Carey primped. Meanwhile, someone should have been watching over Vanessa Carlton when Mariah was getting her award. The under-the-radar songstress was overheard cackling, rolling her eyes and making nasty comments throughout Carey's acceptance speech. Throughout dinner, Carlton made a point to remind fellow guests that she is actually famous. "I have more than one song," she announced to the table - but got severely agitated when The Post's Marianne Garvey mistook an Avril Lavigne music video for one of hers.

Although, I'm guessing that that when she "reminded fellow guests that she was famous," V wasn't being as intolerable as the article made her out to be. I mean, people were probably saying "Ohhh ATM right?" which is especially frustrating seeing as she has a brand-new single out and an album that's just two weeks away.
Besides, Vanessa DID say she wanted beef :lol:

V is really sarcastic and she was probably being sarcastic on Cribs. Mariah acted like a bimbo on her episode and changed her clothes about forty times. She may have said it was her favorite tv moment of all-time, but it doesn't necessarily mean it out of admiration and respect. Probably more out of hilarity.
And Mariah is an incredibly talented vocalist and sometimes songwriter, but I've noticed that in person, or at least in interviews and such, she is slightly Michael Jackson-esque in that she is obsessed with butterflies and seems almost child-like. It's very irritating, imo. So I'm with Vanessa on WANTING to heckle her, but... she should have kept her mouth shut. That is completely lacking in class.
I don't particularly care for how the Post wrote the last paragraph, though. "reminded people she was famous?" As far as what she said, "I have more than one song!" they make her sound as if she's desperate and completely leave out the context of her comment. Bah. She could have been laughing while she said it, but the article makes her sound like she was going from table to table with crazy eyes telling people she's not just ATM... yikes.

Make fun of someone who actually has no talent- not the hands-down best singer in the business. Make fun of Fergie or something. I know Mariah Carey is a diva and probably has a terribly annoying personality, but she is a phenomenal singer and if anything V should understand that Mariah isn't just a corporate image output.
Although, it was probably taken out of context and wound out of proportion- either that or V was drunk/high, which I wouldn't be surprised about.

I tend not to believe a story like this. If it is true, it seems to be very out of character for V. I consider her terribly savvy, PR-wise. Personally, the jury's out on this one.
Mariah is a great singer with tons of ability, but way, way, way overrated. Also, a bit unhinged. That's all I'm gonna say about that. :wink:

Their duties were clearly delineated, with one minion in charge of doling out the double-sided sticky tape (necessary to keep mammose Mariah's perilously plunging purple gown in place), while another sported a Batman-style utility belt filled with brushes and hair spray, and a third carried the all-important hot rollers.
Meanwhile, the New York Post says eight -- yes, eight -- "massive bodyguards" surrounded her at the event, cutting a swath through the little people by announcing, "Get out of the way! Mariah's coming!"
They also made sure her retinue was able to gussy her up in private by closing down the ladies' room for 10 minutes.
Not everyone was impressed by the sublimely over-the-top spectacle that is the big-lunged belter, who was an honoree at the event.
According to the Post, singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton was "overheard cackling, rolling her eyes and making nasty comments throughout Carey's acceptance speech."
That wasn't the only time Mariah was met with mocking that night. A Gawker.com operative says she also faced a tough crowd at the Waverly Inn, where she struck a pose for conveniently stationed paparazzi before entering.
Seems her composure "faltered" at one point when a fellow diner yelled out, "We love and support you Britney," sending the hot spot's patrons into twitters.
When someone pointed out the diva in question wasn't Spears, the yukster shot back, "Oh, sorry Lindsay, good luck with your demons."

I didn't say she was a total sweetheart; I called her PR-savvy. She can be mischievous; I'm sure she was goofing.
If she meant it---and believe me, Mariah fans would flatten her---it just seems stupid to do. I would think she's trying to reestablish herself in the public eye, not start some tabloid fight BS. Is that the ONLY way to get press? Start some crap with someone?
Maybe she's changing her outlook on things....geez, I hope not.

I'm not a Mariah fan... but that was definitely a bad idea for VC... no one wants to be seen as that critical or direspectful in the public eye. It'll only make others want to be more critical of you in return. :-/
I also hope she's not getting cocky. Her music is amazing and all... but I've always respected her SO much for being down to earth.
All I'm saying is that I hope what they're saying is not true.

The new york post also said Jennifer Lopez & her mom aren't speaking, but Jennifer was on Extra today saying her mom called her & told her about that. she's like "so obviously we're speaking if she called me" lol. the NY post tends to not always tell the truth.
Although they were right about the audio of Paula Abdul breaking down cuz it leaked on PerezHilton soon after they wrote about it, so sometimes they do tell the truth. Who knows with this though.
It's kinda weird how almost all of her fans believe it.. if the NY post said something like this about Paula her fans would be defending her like mad lol. We know she's not perfect (FAR from perfect) but we'd still be defending her. For some reason I believe this about V though.

Well she has sort of denied being arse~y to Mariah, her myspace post says she loves her and gossip sucks.
Someone will have seen VC having fun and just laughing about, whilst Mariah was doing stuff and put and 1 together and got gossip.

That's right, so what are you going to believe, a video where you actually see what V is saying, or a publication who's sole purpose is to generate gossip with little regard towards the truth?
BTW, that Cribs episode also shows that V has a reproduction of Mariah's outfit from one of her videos from her last album. Doesn't sound like someone that hates Mariah by any means.

LOL this is funny. I think it's the paper trying to make something out of nothing. I've heard Nessa jokingly say how she has more than one song on numerous occasions. We all know she doesn't do it out of ego, it's just that she's only known for ATM and that's how she tells people for the billionth time that that song doesn't define her.
And I think Vanessa naturally has a slight cackle to her laugh. It's more of a giggle though. It's cute.
