Quote
Stevie Nicks inspired her to sing "Take away my record deal/go on I don't need it"
"That's about trying to figure out my place in the industry. I went on the road with Stevie Nicks, and she centered me. She prevented me from taking myself out of the fight."

She and Stevie got all BFF together.
"We talk in the middle of the night. She would say, 'You need to carry the torch of singer/songwriters. The industry's in trouble if artists like you can't survive.' She took me under her chiffon wing."

She started in N.Y.C.
"I played The Sidewalk Cafe, the Bitter End, a couple of places on the Upper West Side. The Bitter End was a home for me."

Irv Gotti, Stephan Jenkins and Linda Perry produced different parts of the record.
"I started enjoying myself with Linda, and not feeling like this was work, but like I was this bohemian artist. The Stephan sessions were super-intensive. He would say, 'Let's do a 50-piece choir here,' or, 'I'm just gonna start whistling.' If Irv doesn't like something, he can't fake it, and he has impeccable ears. These people never follow the rules, which is like me. We're all contrarians in our own way."

'I'm just gonna start whistling.'

So he's the one to blame..

Adding whistles to a song like FLM = big nono.

LOL!! Exactly what I was thinking, I love Fools Like Me...why couldn't they have kept it all sad and acoustic the way she played live?? W/O the whistling, lol!! Oh well, I love it anyway! But Stephan, that's 2 strikes...first you break my Nessa's heart and now you mess with Fools like me!! lol

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think we would have all just preferred more of a sad sound for this song...it sounded so much better live, just nessa and the piano and all of her emotion behind it.

Oh well, I still like it.

i just think sometimes people forget that it doesn't matter if stevie nicks' voice is too low, or the whistling sounds stupid, it's about what she wants not us.

But we can still say it's stupid if we think it's stupid. So it doesn't matter if Vanessa likes it or if that's what she wanted, because ultimately we're buying the record with our money and can say whatever we want about it.
