Title: Suspicion - 2nd Single?
Post by: HeroesAndThieves on October 10, 2007, 06:31:01 am
Well I've been really suspicious, and sure that the next single will be Spring Street. I only say this based on the website, which starts Spring Street, which is played in full. Hands On Me, Home, and The One are all samples...

Who would like Spring Street as the 2nd single  :D

I don't, I'm all for HOM. But SS could make a good single along  the road.

HOM is very catchy, but Spring Street is my fave :D, I'd be a happy little camper if it were released.

Like I said about the one... SS too has a very catchy story line... I mean the way the song progresses... actually gets the listener intrigued (if he/she pays attention to the lyrics)...

you could have an amazing vid based on the song and i can so imagine kids leaving off to college or else moving out... dedicating the song on the radio...

So it could after all do pretty well as a second single...

Guys we have to looks at the potential commercial songs first, V needs that comeback. She atleast has to have a real commercial next single (HOM) first, and then she can take risks. It's important.

Personally, I would like either This Time or Come Undone [I think i'm leaning towards the latter]. It's so radio friendly.

Releasing HOM is a risk... Releasing Home,Come Undone or Spring Street is safe, because they all fall under the same Vanessa Style. HOM is more dancy then her others, making it a risk, and a big change for a 2nd single.

No way, "Hands on Me" is the safest choice. Radio isn't concerned with what Vanessa's style is, they just want a radio-friendly song. "Hands On Me" is a born single.

Well anyway, as much as I love Spring Street, I was just saying this because it's clearly the one they try to make heard when visiting the site...

As far as radio-friendly singles go, a cut down version of "Home" would be best. Although, I could probably do with HOM as a single.

i feel like the album version of HOM (gah!  no!  it's PYHOM, i can't used to the abbreviated title!  it's been too long...) is, well...very annoying.  while it may be radio-friendly, technically, i feel like it would give the complete wrong impression of V's music - it sounds very overplayed-radio-na-na-na-ish to me.

"Spring Street" is one of my favorite songs from the album, but I think "Hands on Me" and "The One" could be more successful singles.

I think that it comes down to the question of whether we want a radio-friendly 2nd single for the sake of selling copies or do we want a "Nessa" single that will make us nessaholics happy. I don't think there is a song on the album that fits in both categories.

We [I think, but I personally] all want a radio-friendly single to promote Nessa. We've all heard Nessa before and we know that she makes us happy in bringing out the albums she does. However, we want to extend Nessaholicism - to make others aware of her! Once that's done, i'm sure we'll all be as happy as a sandman.

As a fan, I can't really understand why a Nessa single wouldn't be a "Nessa" single. Whatever she does, you can clearly tell she makes it her song. I disagree with you.

We have to think about her well being, about her well deserving succes.
She needs a universal single, imo that's HOM or Home, but I have a feeling the latter won't catch on. And HOM is more in your face.

I think Hands on Me, Spring Street, Home, and Come Undone would all do really well on the radio. Hands on Me is catchy as hell, as is Spring Street. Home and Come Undone would probably do well as the last couple of singles.

I think it will make a fantastic single. It was the first one that stood out to me as a great single for the radio.

Um this would be a hit, since the beginning all she says is na na na na na na na ;)

Yea I understand all your arguments, but it's the fact that they've only decided to not only play that song on her site, 1st... but play it in full.

Isn't that usally a really big sign, because loads of artists only put there singles in full.

I agree with the majority -HOM would be the next best single. She needs to pick something that will get her the most radio play - it's catchy, similar to songs played on the radio right now, and something people can relate to. Sounds like a hit to me.

I personally think that the worst choice would be Spring Street - it gets so boring (sorry but this is my opinion) and I think that people wouldn't be able to listen to the entire song all the way through.

The One would be another good choice because it is all the above plus you have the bonus of Stevie (think both of them performing to promote the album!!!). It isn't as catchy as HOM but I think that it could be used to boost sales.

Home would be a good single but not for the next single. Need something that is less of a ballad and more something that people can dance to.

I don't really like Spring street, I think its the quality of Vanessa's voice- too low to have a nice texture maybe? Anyway its good, just not her best. Lol her best haha
Anyway also I must say, since putting Heroes and Thieves onto my MP3 player, the songs sound so different (I was listening to them on my crappy pc speakers) and I notice so many more layers- songs like the one and Come Undone are SOoo much more of my favs now. I have to disagree with what I said earlier on in a particular forum, More than this IS the perfect song, and Come Undone is awesome too. I am beginning to Really REALLY like this album.
Maag was right lol I guess I just needed to give it some time....

Anyways, best single- Home. As the others said, its radio and listener friendly. People can only tolerate types of music that sound instantly appealing and catchy.

Those are to much, na na na's lol.

They could release it in the spring, I see that happening. 'cause it's not a dark winter ballad, so it could catch on in the spring.

Spring Street already has nearly as many plays per week as Nolita Fairytale on AC. It's the obvious follow up.

It's mainly the target audience. I believe these formats only follow suit in the United States.

CHR/Pop (Current Hit Radio - Popular) is targeted to a mixed crowd, but mainly 35 and under. Less talk, more songs.

Hot Adult Contemporary is sort of targeted towards post-teen, early to middle life adults. They play less of the hip hop and mainstream songs that are sort of "louder" and "crazier" and insert a fair bit of talking and shows along the lines of self help and stuff like that.

Adult Contemporary is targeted to around 35+ who want to hear a small mix of newer songs, but a main dose of older classics as well as some talk radio.

I think "Spring Street" would make an excellent single -- it's become my favorite song on the album and I think it follows the general formula for a song that would do well on the radio because it has that familiar chorus. Regardless of how you feel about all the "na na na" 's (doesn't bother me, personally), you can't say it's any worse than all the "it's alright" 's in Bon Jovi's "Who Says You Can't Go Home?", and that was a HUGE radio hit.

Beyond that, I like the way she tells a story, from setting out on her own to coming of age and eventually starting her own family, bringing things full circle. The final bit about walking her daughter down to Spring Street and holding hands, yeah it's sappy and sentimental, but it's very effective the way she sings it. I could see this song becoming quite popular among people who aren't aware Vanessa's done anything since "A Thousand Miles" and winning her over some new fans.

If not "Spring Street," then I think the title track, "Heroes and Thieves," or "Hands On Me" would make good singles.

While I love "Home," I'm not sure how it would do on the radio. I'm not sure it's a single. It's a truly lovely song, though, I think it would make an excellent wedding song.

If she releases Heroes and Thieves I think the stripped down her and the piano version would be best. Oddly I think it'd be more appealing.

It does sound very good live, as did "Hands On Me" without the big chorus at the end. Amazing how good she sounds when it's just her and the piano.

I think "Fools like Me" would be a good single. And so would "Come Undone" if they cut out that over long intro. I would be so happy if "More Than This" was her final single for the album though...

*Sigh* Do you guys remember when we kept speculating what the next single for Harmonium was going to be, and there ended up not being one? How disappointing was that? I don't think that's going to happen this time though, because Irv is so strongly behind her.

I remember that, lol.

Everyone over at the official boards thought it was "Annie" because some website published the sheet music for the song....
