> This is a new band that I am playing with. I am so stoked. The drummer is from the band Sweetwater.
> We have studio time booked at the end of the month with Barrett Jones (engineerd The Foo Fighters, PUSA, Mad Season, Jimmy Eat World and many more big albums).
> Two major labels already want to here more tunes. And that is not even the half of it. I will post more information very soon. The website should be up in a few days.

Sweet Water are survivors. Their first record, "Sweet Water" (Atlantic) garnered the band an intensely loyal following, and the immensely popular "Superfriends" album (East/West) gained Sweet Water national notoriety with the hit single "Superstar." Following a sour deal with EMI/Capitol, the members of Sweet Water released an album under the name Parc Boys (Will), reflecting their frustrations with the "business" of making music.
"Suicide" is the long awaited final album from Seattle based Sweet Water. The album, produced by Dave Jerden (Jane's Addiction, Alice in Chains, Offspring), is chock of full of big guitars, rock and roll power and radio-ready melody. The record captures Sweet Water at their rock and roll best, combining influences from the Dead Boys, AC/DC, The Clash, Blondie, Cheap Trick and The Cars.
Known primarily for high-energy radio hits and over the top live shows, Sweet Water marks the end of the millennium with this long awaited release. Sweet Water's "Suicide" is a natural extension of the rock tradition the band has upheld throughout the years.
"Suicide", released in 1999 on Good-Ink Records, is destined to be a classic.

When bands sing about the corporate enemy known as the major record label industry, they tend to release frustrations they never felt in the first place, only having heard stories from others. Not Sweet Water-they've been there.
"Emotional exhaustion and turmoil is an occupational hazard of rock and roll," says Rich Credo, guitarist of the Seattle quartet whose latest effort, Suicide, marks the third release of a band that has never relented from an uphill battle.
But "it's not like I sold my guitar or anything."
With a 1992 self-titled debut released by Atlantic Records, Sweet Water (Credo, vocalist Adam Czeisler, bassist Paul Uhlir and drummer Cole Peterson) had begun to earn a small but dedicated following in the Northwest. Subsequent material that would become their sophomore 1995 album, Superfriends, strayed from the alterna-style they were forced to adapt after the label told them to change their sound to the likes of Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam. They refused. So when the A&R woman who landed them the deal at Atlantic moved to EastWest/Elektra Records, she brought them along, although she was later let go and the artists under her belt (including Tad and Clutch) were subsequently dropped. But not Sweet Water, who would release Superfriends, a more aggressive and less polished album whose self-titled track was beginning to make a splash on radio, making to the top-20 rock charts at one time. Then without warning the band was dropped.
But that's all in the past now. Nothing to see here.
"It's pretty hard to get pissed off when you look at the big picture," Credo says. "We just get on the stage and do what we do together."
And in the studio as well. Produced by Dave Jerden (Janes Addiction, Alice in Chains and Offspring), Suicide opens with a wall of guitars and drums on "Been So Long" that dwell in punk influence as they do in melodic rock, while the uptempo "FTA" and "Dear Customer" contrast the wavelike "Garden Party," which echoes in a sea of reverb-tinged sounds. And on the other end of the yard lies "East/West is the Enemy," which needs no explanation.
In retrospect," Atlantic Records gave us a fair shot," Credo explains. "That's more than I can say for the weasels at EastWest/Elektra. They actually supported our first record and didn't lie to us all the time."
Later plans with Enclave Records, a subsidiary of EMI America, fizzled after that label, which had signed Sweet Water to a two-record deal, went under. The band's recent resurfacing comes courtesy of Good-Ink Records, a Seattle-based indie label founded by Carrie Akre, former vocalist of Emerald City rock band Goodness.
While such strain might have broken up a lot of other bands, Sweet Water considers itself more of a family than anything else.
"We have rocked and toured for so long it's like second nature,"
Credo says. "Plus we know what each other looks like naked."
So what have all the years of ups and downs taught the band?
"Don't suck ass," Credo says. "Be true to yourself."

FIRST EVER PROTOCOL CONCERT
Just got back from seeing their first gig ever. A n00b band you would expect to have a lot of A/V problems, sound kinda halfassed, NOT THIS TIME! I was impressed! They had a good clean original sound, the frontman was excellent. He reminds me a lot of the lead singer of FUEL. Similar look, similar intensity.
I had a great time! I'd def go to more shows in the future!
And Aaron/iokane/Space, you rocked it hardcore on that bass!
-
Cool. :). Now they need to share some tunes with us non-Northwesterners  lol

Thank you very much Mista. That really means a lot from you. I am just really excited that you made it to the show. Ifd you all need some demos got to www.musicsteps.com and look for The Protocol. Todd will send a demo out to you the next day. I think that they are only $5 or $6.
You can also go to www.theprotocolmusic.com and check the pix and other useless information about the band.
Thank you again for the props and I hope to see you next month or so for the next gig. I do not have a date yet but, I will keep you posted.

I went to my second Protocol show tonight.
I grabbed some free parking, got to the bar a hair before 9. As I was walkin up I spotted Aaron. He guestlisted me so I got my wrist stamped, no cover. Then headed to another bar The Bohemian for some cheap drinks. Kill half an hour there then head back to Doc's so he can help setup stuff.
A lil after 10 they hit the stage and put on a killer set. They open with "Favorite Girl" which was one of my favorites from the first show, and its on the demo too. After the 4th or 5th song Aaron has Rob dedicate a song to Cangirl, a girl on the message board. No idea if she was there or not. The song they end with, I forget the title and its not on the demo but Rob just screams it out like he was Chris Cornell doing "Cochise". Great vocals!
So after the show Aaron and I go out to the lounge part and kick it. After a couple minutes a girl comes up, it was Cangirl. She was really sweet. The 3 of us hung out the rest of the break between bands and through half of the next band. Eventually we wandered back inside, there wasnt nearly as many people in there as there was for the Protocol. They were decent at best.
After that set Rob came out, we got to talk to him a bit. Cool guy! I cant wait for the next show!
-
Kevin just hooked me up with some of their music and it is really good.
I love it, i like the style of it because its the sort of music I am into.
All in all bloody good stuff!
-
Thank you very much for the props. We had a very fun time playing the other night.
I just got word tonight that Sub Pop wants to come and see us play. How cool would that be?!
See you at the shows,

Great stuff.
I like Face Down best. Nice solo.

Thank You Mista,
When we were tracking the tune, we were all like... I am not sure about the first take. Then Jeff did another track and mixed them together and The rest of us and the Engineer were like... that kicks ass.
We just had a lot of fun making the demo with Barrett and Greg.
See you at the shows,

Sept 27th at the Rendezvous.
I know that the Doc Maynard's show is right around the corner but I have to post this about the September show. We have a really amazing band opening up for us that night. It has Dave krusen (Pearl Jam) and a few other Seattle Rock Stars as well from Sweet Water and Grunt Truck.
Anyway, it will be a very exciting night in a very hip little hole in the wall.
See ya there.

"Now I take my time, I remember what you said. Oh no. I might as well go to bed."
Great song, dumb song title.
Week from tonight we'll he rockin at Doc's.
-
I keep trying to tell Rob to just call it Bed But, he won't listen. Who knows, it could end up being another Brian Adams. (The longest song title on the charts).
I rather like:
I put my hood on so I won't be found... It can't be that bad .... You look if I will be around... spAce Down..... Alright! That's not how I wanna live!

Great show tonight!!
The fan base is def growing each time!
I'm scared about the next show, such a small venue, with as many fans as you got now...
I'm still thinkin put the Jane's song somehwere in the middle (or even second to last), and keep closing with the screamer BEWARE (its called "Not Real" right?)
-
The next show is going to be way off the hizzay. I still can't believe that The March Lion's are going to open for The Protocol. How cool is that?! Dave Krusen and Barty Martin in the same band! That is almost as tight of a rhythm section as Paul and I. I so can't wait for that show.
Thank you again for coming to the show and taking all those pix. There a re some really great shots in that batch.

Talk about a fun night. The club was to near capacity with an undulating crowd that really made us feel right at home. If you ever get the chance to go to Doc Maynard's, order the Teryaki salmon burger and lots of Crown Royal. It is like nothing bad for you.
A big thanx again to blackvulture for snappin all those great pix and helping out with the gear. You Da Man!

*get's really excited*
I just keep getting more and more excited about the gig coming up this and next week. We are playing three shows with The March Lion's (Pearl Jam, Candlebox, Sweetwater and No.13 baby members) around Seattle.
We just got another gig with No.13 Baby at The Crocodile Café here in Seattle as well. This is like the birth place of all the cool Music from Seattle for the past 15 years. Peter Buck's (R.E.M) wife owns that club. The last time I was there, I saw The Posies and got to hang out with The guys from The Foo Fighters, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Sunny Day Real Estate and many other cool cats.
Wish us luck. I will have Pix up soon from all four shows.

Well, plans have changed again for recording the new record. It looks like we will be doing the new record at Stone Gossard's (Pearl Jam) studio Litho (http://www.studiolitho.com/) here in Seattle in June. Not sure if Stone is on board or not for the Engineering yet.

The same place they recorded Staind - Dysfunction.
NOT WORTHY! lol
I knew they had recorded it in Seattle cause on the cover of "Bring The Noise" duet with Fred Durst in his little rap he mentions being in Seattle. The track ended up not making it on the Dysfunction CD tho. Which is good cause it would have been totally out of place.
Pearl Jam, Deftones, Staind.... The Protocol. KICKASS

The is a new on-line interview with Rob on artsy-noise (http://www.artsy-noise.cjb.net/). The interview is also posted below.
The Protocol
Rob Leinbach - Vocals
Who are some of your musical influences?
Anything that doesn't suck - and that too.
Where did the name of your band come from?
I kept screwing up something on my e-mail and I kept getting an error message that said The Protocol. I guess it was a sign from God or Bill Gates or both.
How long have you guys been together?
As a full band, since March 2003.
What are your favorite bands now?
Gotta give credit to the locals: The Lights, Aveo, Nada Surf. Jeff loves Blonde Redhead and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Space loves Crowded House. And Paul just like to rawk.
Which do you want more, a Moon Man or a Grammy?
A "raspberry"
If everything were to stop right now, what one thing would you, as a band like to be remembered for?
Putting on a fun, high energy live show.
Out of all the venues you've played which is your favorite?
The Crocodile
If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be?
Sign everybody to a label, including us :)
What do you want people to get from your music?
A good time.
If you could be a member of one 80s band who would it be?
I always wanted to be that 6'8" guy from Midnight Oil.
If you weren't involved in music, what other careers would you pursue?
Our band is made up of a lawyer, a psychologist, a internet business development specialist and a Crowne Royal connosieur
Give two words to describe the other guys in your band.
Fu&(&ed Up.
Is there any song you hate to perform? If so, which one?
No.
What is your favorite song off of one of your CD?
We are recording our first full length this June - stay tuned.
How did you prepare for recording?
Buy lots of beer and use up vacation days.
What was the writing process used for this album?
We are currently songwriting for our upcoming debut album.
What was the hardest part of recording?
Being so involved in what you are doing that you lose outside perspective.
Are you signed to a label or are you DIYing it?
Not signed - know anyone . . . ? :)
Now that you have a cd out do you see an increase in your show attendance/fan base?
I'll let you know later this year .. .
Who would you like to tour with?
Sahara Hot Nights
If you had to do it all over what would you change?
I would have started playing music at an earlier age.
What advice would you give to younger/new musicians looking to record for the first time?
Write as many songs as you can. Some will suck, but there will be some gems in the end.
When you become famous what would you order to have in your dressing room?
a massage therapist
If you where trapped on a deserted island what one CD or record would you want with you?
Radiohead - OK Computer
If you could knock out anyone with your instrument who would it be?
George W.
Do you guys plan on expanding the area you play in to other states?
We are playing Portland on February 21st with No. 13 Baby at Berbati's Pan
What do you want on your Tombstone?
"He lived life to the fullest"
What's the most embarrassing CD you own?
Right Said Fred
What's your favorite show tune?
Oklahoma
What's your favorite children’s book?
Curious George
What's the worst band on the radio? Please narrow down to one.
I don't like to put down other musicians because I'm not worthy, so I'll couch in terms of "in my humble opinion," I don't like to listen to Good Charlotte
How's the local music scene?
Seattle has so many amazing bands right now. People need to realize this and start going to more shows
Any last words?
Rock fans - let's go back to the days when fans went absolutely crazy at live shows. No more standing there. Get naked and jump on stage.
-
I hope it was a good show tonight, sorry I couldnt go.
-
I hope it was a good show tonight, sorry I couldnt go.
It was a good show and you were very much missed.
No Vulture = not as much fun
We ended up having a mellow after party back at the hotel with Jason Finn (PUSA), Adam and Jen (Sub Pop, Sweetwater, March Lions and No 13 Baby), The whole No 13 Baby crew and about 10 other friends and family.
The Venue wes great! Killer sound on and off stage and they served really nnice Greek food and drinks likes crazy!
We are talking about heading down again with PUSA, March Lion's and No 13 baby again.
Also, Cangirl took some really good pictures that I am sure she will send you in the morning.
I also have setlists for you and I have Jason Finn's JHC for Jamie.
-
Looks like we are going to do a couple more shows soon. We are looking at 04.02.04 and 04.22.04. The show on the second would be with Common Heros and New American Standard at Studio 7. (this one is for Drummerboy) and the twentysecond will be at The Sunset... its a benefit.
Both shows will be fun to say the least!
-
These dates are confirmed and will be very fun... I cant wait to play and party with our buddies in Common Heroes (http://www.commonheroes.com/home.aspx) again! They write really killer tunes and are really cool to hang with..

I just have to give a little update here:
We just got done meeting with Floyd Studio Litho (...Pearl Jam's Studio... Seattle). (http://www.studiolitho.com/) He was really into the tunes and is really excited about working with us on the record. We all hit it off really well. We all have a really good feeling about the spAce (all puns intended) and working with all the guys. We are 'officially' reserving the second week (10 days) in June to make the record. Paul and I are shooting for having all the bassics done in three days and then Jeff will laydown all the guitars in another three - four days. That will give Rob plenty of time ti get all the vocals done and still have a good amount of time for all the miXxing.
We would love to have Blackvulture and Cangirl (and anyone else in town) down for a listen and to document the session with video and piXx.
*so cant wait*

Pre-production has officially started with our producer (Floyd) for our recording session at Studio Litho (Stone Gossard's studio) in mid July.
Things are going very well. We have a ton of new tunes that we are all very excited about as well. a couple of them might even be busted out for our pre-studio gigs this June... Stay tuned!
-
What is the latest news about the protocol?
tylor
-
What is the latest news about the protocol?
The band is deep in pre-production for the new album!
They are making demos of every single song they have.
They submit them to the producer. Everyone votes on what songs to go onto the new CD, and the ones picked, those the producer will work the kinks out so when they go into the studio for a couple weeks in August they'll hit it perfect.
The demos are a lil rough but they really rock!
-
Hey T2K! Sanka for asking... theprotocol is still in the midst of pre-production. There are a lot of new tunes that are done and being worked on for the record.
We have a very cool show at the Crocodile coming up on July 3rd. Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam) will be filling for Dave Crusen (Pearl Jam) on drums for The March Lion's. We have played a few shows with them.. They are fun!
spAce is hoping to smoozz a bit with Stone about our record since we are recording it at his studio... The same place that Pearl Jam rehearses and has done their last few records...
-
awesome. rock on.

All I can say right now is that I cant wait for this record to be out. It should be in late October. The studio was amazing. A HUGE sanka to Floyd and Stone Gossard for the great time (and other stuff) that helped us make a great record.
ps - Sanka to BV for all your help, piXx, pimping and support...

!!!!OMFG!!!!
I so cannot believe that we get to play on the same stage as NEssa on the exact same night. We are having our CD release party at The Crocodile Cafe the same night that Nessa is playing. She has the early show and we headline the late show...
---> From theProtocol message board...
Vanessa & The Protocol, together at the Croc on the same night.
I swear it's an act of God bringing these two artists together.
I met spAce 2 years ago thanks to her last concert in Seattle, now with the show on November 20th, it brings it all full circle.
This is indeed a VERY historic day... spAce just might finally get to say: Oh there is Sasha...
November 20th at the Croc.
