well if you lost all that weight since january, you can't expect to keep loosing so much weight. There is only so much weight to lose.

What did you do on this diet?!?!?! I want to try it out. My problem is just eating all the time. I can never just convince myself not to eat.

^i can't either. i'm not overweight at all, but i wanna lose a little weight.

it's weird, i lost so much weight when i lived on my own & was trying to gain weight cuz everyone was like "your so skinny omg!" & now that i've gained some of it back since moving back home i wanna lose some of it again lol. ugh i hate being so self conscious.

anyways, to the op i would just go to the gym as much as you can. just don't overwork yourself. talk to a trainer & see if they can set you on some type of  workout schedule.

I ate barely anything all the time, i didnt really exercise, rice cakes were my best friends, i skipped meals etc. although some of my friends [and parents] got the impression of anorexia, it really wasn't. it is also easier for guys to lose weight because we burn 26 percent more calories than girls.
stay away fried anything, skip lunch, small breakfast and dinner, air popped popcorn, and will power.

I'm not overweight, according to BMI calculators, I am just right, but just right isn't good enough for me, i need to be on the skinny side.

ugh i hate when people assume someone has anorexia just because their skinny. i understand people worry, but still just because someones really skinny doesn't mean they're anorexic. i'm not. i could tell some people thought it, but were too nice to actually say that's what they thought.

but anyways, yeah just talk to a trainer & tell them how much you wanna lose & stuff.

Being healthy is the most important thing. Don't skip meals and starve yourself. If the gym is too expensive, running is the best way to stay in shape, you burn a lot of calories and gain leg muscles. Eat foods that are low GI like whole-meal bread, pasta, oats and fruit so you feel fully for longer, thus reducing the amount of calories you're in-taking. Eating those foods will also result in increased energy levels, making exercise easier.

^ That is such a good point... I often wonder how many Diets are created
that never consider the value of excercise from a wholistic standpoint. Its
also important to be realistic and positive about the rate of your progress

I know a diet that always works because it's just a way of nature.
If you do not need to lose any weight, it will just maintain your current weight.
What you do is only eat until you're satisfied, don't eat until you're full. Just satisfied. And only eat when you're hungry.
My mom did this, as well as a lot of other people, and she lost so much weight.
It's really, really good, and healthy. Skipping meals isn't really the way to go.

After all, animals are usually at the correct weight (Except for people-owned animals, mostly), because they only eat when they're hungry and stop when they're satisfied.

I agree with everyone who said it's annoying when people assume youre anorexic. and I agree with the person saying even though they arent over weight they still want to lose weight. I have for the past several years been trying to lose some pounds. I am slightly ashamed to admit that I have had an eating disorder for the past couple years. I tried doing this by doing it the most unhealthy way possible. I wouldnt eat for days and then when I finally ate it stayed in my body and caused me to actually gain. This is because your body goes into starvation mode and dosent know when its going to get food again. So when your body finally gets food its stores all the calories. When I finally realized I was getting bloated and fat by doing that I started purging which resulted in my teeth being ruined, swollen lymph nodes and sore throats all the time.

I sound stupid saying I want to lose weight then rambling off facts like that. I just don't want anyone to go through what I have gone through with my weight. Do it the healthy way which is eating breakfast. Eating a good breakfast (not doughnuts, bagels covers with butter and cream cheese, and sugar filled cereal) but by eating some fruits, eggs, and whole grain toast. Eating breakfast makes you less hungry during the day, and you will also burn the calories you ate during your first meal. Eat several small healthy meals during the day. Also, stop eating before three hours before you go to bed. And exercise.

Not sure if this helped or not.

Wow, ok so about the whole "Annorexic because skinny" thing is so true. When I was in 7th grade, I started losing some weight because of well, puberty/changin metabolism etc. I never really ate lunch because lunch was always so early in my school so everyone thought thought I was annorexic because I was losing weight fast and it was so funny because my friends know that I eat like a pig everytime I'm at home! So, yeah, just wanted to throw that out there.

You don't really need to go in these diet fads and don't skip meals, that's like the worst thing you could ever do when trying to lose weight. Just stick to balanced meals, add a LOT of greens and veggies, and the most important thing is exercise regularly, find the time to do it and you'll be healthy, thinner and happier.  :) Hope it helps

Sacred Heart Medical Diet

This 7-day eating plan can be used as often as you like. If correctly followed, it will clean out your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being. After only 7 days of this process, you will begin to feel lighter by at least 10 pounds and possibly 17 pounds, and experience an abundance of energy.
SOUP:
1 or 2 cans of stewed tomatoes
3 plus large green onions
1 large can of beef broth (no fat)
1 pkg. Lipton Soup mix (chicken noodle)
1 bunch of celery
2 cans green beans
2 lbs. Carrots
2 Green Peppers
Season with salt, pepper curry, parsley, if desired, or bouillon, hot or Worcestershire sauce. Cut veggies in small to medium pieces. Cover with water. Boil fast for 10 minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue to cook until veggies are tender.
This soup can be eaten anytime you are hungry during the week. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want. This soup will not add calories. The more you eat, the more you will lose. You may want to fill a thermos in the morning if you will be away during the day.
DRINKS:
Unsweetened juices
Tea (also herbal)
Coffee
Cranberry juice
Skim milk
Water, water, water
DAY ONE
Any fruit (except bananas). Cantaloupes and watermelon are lower in calories than most other fruits. Eat only soup and fruit today.
DAY TWO
All vegetables. Eat until you are stuffed with fresh raw, cooked or canned veggies. Try to eat green leafy veggies and stay away from dry beans, peas or corn. Eat veggies along with the soup. At dinnertime tonight reward yourself with a big baked potato and butter. Don't eat any fruits through today.
DAY THREE
Eat all the soup, fruit and veggies you want. Do not have a baked potato. If you have eaten as above for three days and not cheated, you should find that you have lost 5-7 pounds.
DAY FOUR
Bananas and skim milk: Eat at least 3 bananas and drink as much milk as you can today, along with the soup. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates, as is the milk but on this particular day, your body will need the potassium and carbs. Proteins and calcium to lessen the cravings for sweets.
DAY FIVE
Beef and tomatoes: you may have 10 to 20 ounces of beef and a can of tomatoes, or as many as 6 tomatoes on this day. Eat the soup at least once today.
DAY SIX
Beef and veggies, eat to your heart's content of the beef and veggies today. You can even have 2-3 steaks if you like with green leafy veggies but no baked potato. Be sure to eat the soup at least once today.
DAY SEVEN
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and veggies, again, be sure to stuff yourself and eat the soup. You can add cooked veggies to your rice if you wish.
By the end of the 7th day, if you have not cheated on this diet, you should have lost 10 to 17 pounds. If you have lost more than 17 pounds, stay off the diet for two days before resuming the diet again.
This diet is fast. The secret lies within the principle that you will burn more calories than you take in. It will flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being. This diet does not lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time. Because of the fat build-up in your system. Go off the diet at least 14 hours before any intake of alcohol.
Due to the variety of digestive systems in individuals, this diet will affect everyone differently. After day three, you will have more energy than when you began, if you do not cheat. After being on the diet for several days, you will find that your bowel movements have changed. Eat a cup of bran or fiber. Although you can have black coffee with this diet, you may find that you don't need caffeine after the third day.
The basic fat burning soup can be eaten anytime you feel hungry during the seven days. Eat as much as you wish. Remember the more you eat, the more you will lose. You can eat broiled, boiled or baked chicken instead of the beef. Absolutely no skin on the chicken. If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef on only one of the beef days. You need the high protein in the beef for the other days.
Continue on the diet as long as you wish and feel the difference both mentally and physically.
DO NOT - DO NOT
No bread, alcohol, carbonated drinks (including diet drinks). Remember, absolutely no fried foods.
DO - DO - DO - DO
Drink plenty - at least 6 to 8 glasses - of water a day, as well as any combination of the following beverages: black coffee, unsweetened fruit drinks, cranberry juice and skim milk.
This diet comes from the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital that is used for overweight heart patients in order to lose weight rapidly, usually prior to surgery.

My cousin sent me that, it worked for her friends and I was thinking of doing the diet.

I'm in the same boat with some of you, I've lost a lot of weight but snack a lot or eat when I'm not hungry. I try to make it to the gym 2-3 times a week, except for that time of the month. I don't care what anyone says, when its THAT time all I want to do is lay in bed, not exercise. Any ideas would help, I want to buy some healthy snacks and prepare healthy meals for myself.

Excellent point there Manda... time preparing your own food is a good way
of improving the nutritional value of your diet and getting out of the habbit
of more convenient junk food. I've made a conscious effort myself to keep
more whole foods in my kitchen, and as a result my health has maintained
a nice equilibrium, even though my food budget has suffered cut-backs 8)

If you lost 50 pounds in <6 months then you're dead.  Enjoy your funeral!  Losing more than 2-3 pounds per month is unhealthy.  Losing 8-9 pounds per month is suicidal.  For example, if you cut your calories by 100 per day, you will lose about 10 pounds in a year.  To lose 50 pounds in 6 months you would need to reduce your caloric intake by 1000 calories per day AND you would need for your body to not go into starvation mode.  To burn 1000 calories you would need to run 10 miles per day, so I think it's safe to assume you didn't go from "200 pounds of fat" to "running 10 miles per day" in 6 months.  Which leaves us with cutting out calories.... 1,000 calories is an oversized meal.  Like, a restaurant portioned meal.  But, we all know, cutting out an entire meal puts you in starvation mode... which means you'd have to compensate by removing about 325 calories from each meal.  Everyday.  Which means if you were drinking a half-liter of mountain dew with each meal, you could stop that.  Or you could cut the size of your meals in half at every meal.  Meanwhile, you're praying that your body doesn't go into starvation mode, which generally happens if you reduce your caloric intake by more than 10-20%.

I guess what I am saying here is that you're most likely lying.  You shouldn't ask for help starting from a lie. The help you get back won't do you any good.

Now, continuing on, If you stalled out on losing weight it's because you need to reduce your caloric intake more or exercise more.  Losing weight is not rocket science.

Ignore all of the fat stuff.  Fat is irrelevant.  Look at calorie content.  To weight 135 pounds you're looking at <2K calories per day.  Frontload where possible... so try and get 700-800 calories in the morning.  600ish for lunch.  A 100-200 calorie snack at midafternoon.  And then the smallest dinner you can eat without going to bed hungry.

Meanwhile, avoid processed wheat, white sugar and anything liquid with sugar in it.  In fact, the less processing the better.  Lots of raw things.  Lots of fresh things.  If it comes in a bag or box, avoid it.

ok first of all how dare you call me a liar. You don't fucking know me, you have no idea how hard this was for me to sit in a restaurant with my family eating food and me sitting there with a dry salad if that, you have no clue how many people have called me anorexic for not eating lunch, and seeing that i dramatcally lost weight, I put in so much to do this diet and lose weight because I HAVE WILL POWER! If you want to fucking call me a liar you go ahead, but you are the one who is lying, i admit that i didn't lose my weight the healthy way, but i lost it, a person on a diet defined healthy loses about 1 pound of body fat per WEEK, I took health last semester and i know that what i do to diet MIGHT have been classified as VERY MINOR anorexia, but i know myself well enough to know my limits. I worked extremely hard to lose all the weight that i lost in that time, i ate very little, and didn't end up in a hospital. i am still a normal person. You can't judge people like me and call them a liar on something that you obviously can't prove wrong, if you were my mother or in my family you would know that i am not lying.

your help is very  much appreciated, but you calling me a liar isnt.

50 pounds since Jan. is a whole lot! Im not calling you a liar but...to lose that much weight so dramatically seems almost impossible. You would most likely be hospitalized. I know you are able to lose about 2-3 pounds a day without eating after serveal previous days without eating but it seems like too much weight to be lost without being in the hospital, fainting, or becoming very sick. But I dont know you so I dont know.

Between November and April I'd lost over 18 pounds - without deliberately
trying to loose the weight by dieting. My parents were surprised to see me
in such a condition when I saw them on April 11, but they knew my budget
for food had been compromised loosing two jobs in as many months. With
a metabolism like mine, keeping weight on had always been a issue until I
learned the value of whole foods. I've changed my eating pattern as well -
and I now have a food budget that approaches what I used back in '06

The most constructive support you can give to anyone on a diet is talking
about their progress relative to their situation, and avoiding comparisons.

Starving yourself in order to lose weight is a very stupid idea, Sure, you obviously will lose weight over time, but once you've reached your desired weight, you'll put the weight back on very quickly, you might even gain weight.

If you want to lose weight, you need to make a lifestyle change, that means eating healthy foods that fill you up, and exercising. It doesn't have to be vigorous exercise, it could just be jogging for 15 minutes a day.

But it's your body, and if you wanna starve...not my problem.

If you think about all the different opinions that are being given, obviously you can probably see that it's different for everyone.
But if you are serious about this (which it obviously seems you are, right?) then perhaps ask your parents to take you to a doctor who can probably tell you the best and healthiest way to lose weight.
If you want to do it quickly, that's not always the healthiest way to do it, you just want to be healthy in the longrun right?
So hopefully no matter how long it takes, you'll make the healthy desicions.

My cousin runs five miles every day (Yes, seven days a week!) in the morning. She's so thin, and she doesn't eat red meat. We call her a rabbit because she just nibbles on everything when she does eat.

I definitely think you should see a doctor and ask, not some place at the mall or quiz on the internet. What you are doing now is not healthy, you are only hurting yourself.

LET ME BREAK THIS DOWN FOR YOU...

I have learned plenty during my lifelong ride on the diet roller coaster.  I still have not managed to get off the fucking ride.  But that will be changing in 14 pounds.

There is no magic pill or miracle diet.  Hate to break it to you, but all of that is worthless and temporary.  You have to make a lifestyle change.  You need to be aware of what you are eating and remember you have to feel satified & not full.  Let's not forget that exercise is key.  If you starve and not exercise...  you will be gross and saggy!

For gals... make sure you have a low fat, low carb and low calorie diet.  The lowest amount of caloric intake recommended by a doctor is 1,200 calories a day.  For guys its 1,800 (if I remember correctly).  Don't waste your calories by drinking them!  Drink water or diet drinks.  Make sure you stick to whole grains, lean meats, low fat dairy, veggies & fruits.  You can get creative and make some really tasty stuff.

I highly recommend the biggest loser work out DVDs.  I love them!  They are fun and make you sweat like crazy.  Its very inspirational to see the contestants of the show in the video.  Some of the videos even include workout and nutrition tips (recipes) .  They have 4 different DVDs.  The DVDs mostly have a bunch of short workouts that you can combine however you want.  You should do at least 30-45 minute workouts 3 times a week.    It goes by quick and you will feel great once it gets easier and easier.    If you have a gym membership, make sure to sculpt along with your cardio.  Muscle is a hot plate for melting fat.  The more (lean) muscle you form, more calories are burned.

I've done a lot of those wacky diets.  I've done Jenny Craig, Cabbage Soup Diet, Atkins, Nicole's Diet (400-600 calories a day with no exercise) blah blah  Nothing has worked best and had me feeling great like what I described above.  Over the last 6 years I've been on the damn coaster.  I estimate that I have lost 106 pounds from my peak weight about 6 years ago.  I love to help with this crap... so feel free to ask if you'd like.

Wow! I think I exceeded that just with my dinner tonight; though I had a
smaller than usual breakfast, no lunch and was pretty hungry by the time
I got home. As regular as my work roster is, there's no set finishing time
in any shift and with the way my workplace is staffed, no designated meal
break except on Saturdays. I left at 9:30AM and got back at 6:30, so I'm
looking forward to be able to take food with me once I get my car back

ok first of all how dare you call me a liar.

15 minutes a day of jogging might burn 150 calories (at a 6 Mph pace) and won't help your heart at all.

You'd be better off doing 30 minutes every other day.

I agree with all of this except the low fat dairy and diet drinks.

If you need them for some reason, fine. Better to be healthy and eating processed things than to be overweight (I say the same thing to people who eat sugar free deserts and such... better to just not eat desert... but if you NEED them...).  But in the long run, the less processing done to your food the better.  Diet drinks and low fat dairy (and this includes dairy derivatives like salad dressings) are frequently heavily processed to obtain the results without the usual fat requirements (for example, without fat, sour cream is not creamy, so you don't get ranch dressing without it, etc).

Dairy fat is largely healthy fat.  It contains a ton of the protiens you need for your muscles to work efficiently.  You will rarely find a runner or other casual athlete who would touch low-fat products.  In fact, Cottage Cheese is so popular with athletes because of the high concentration of good protiens in the fat.

Diet sodas are even worse for you.  They are full of chemicals and syrups and preservatives and god knows what else.  Again, if you need them, go for it.  But you're much better off with water.

Note: this doesn't include low-fat dairy things that are just made with like 2% milk or whatever.  Some dairy products can be made with 2%, which is just whole milk + water (not tap water, it's some of the byproduct of the dairy process, but same idea).

I've found that eating healthy, fresh, natural (unprocessed) things AUTOMATICALLY causes you to consume fewer calories.  Let me give you an example... a cheeseburger you buy at Burger King could easily have 1000 calories in it.  But if you make one yourself with half lean ground beef and half turkey, a whole wheat bun and whatever condiments you like, I guarantee you that you save yourself 200+ calories.  Now, an 800 calorie cheeseburger is still not good for you, but if you changed nothing else about your diet except that you'd be losing 10 pounds a year.

It is not "normal" to eat very little. Your body needs food, and plenty of it. Reducing your intake within reason along with sensibility and exercise is the way to lose weight. Eating very little is just going to make you a whole different kind of unhealthy.

I never, ever drink empty calories, except alcohol   , which is not something I have all the time, obviously. During the day I drink water, unsweetened tea, sometimes diet drinks (aspartame is not good for you at all, either). I am not a vegetarian but I just don't like to hassle with meat that often. When I do eat it, it is antibiotic-free, skinless chicken breasts. Otherwise, I eat vegetables galore. Tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, spinach, eggplant, bell peppers, asparagus; I literally will eat huge bowls of cooked vegetables for meals and they are so delicious and hearty. I rarely eat rice or pasta (and always whole grain if I do) and I snack on mangoes, peaches and oranges. I have no idea what my daily caloric intake is and I don't care; all I know is I love the food I eat and I have been losing weight but feel really good.

Andrew may be picking on you but his advice on dieting is good, you should listen to him. And I agree that your story seems a bit far-fetched. People on shows like The Biggest Loser lose that much weight that quickly, but they are carefully supervised by dietitians and personal trainers. If you really did lose as much weight as you say, I would be concerned for your personal health. You should see a doctor and have a physical done.

Sorry for the double post, but this is something that I must say before a huge fight breaks out,

I am very sorry for some of the rude and uncalled for comments and replies that I have posted on this topic, I am having a hard time at the moment in my life away from these boards and I shouldn't be taking this out on any of you, or have this stress overcome me. I would just like to say sorry, but I somehow had to get it out that I am not lying about this, [why would i even do that?] but I feel like I did it in the wrong way.

sorry

been made in a different vein or at least qualified first. Everyone that has
experienced some form of success with a diet is likely going to share info
they think is going to help in some way. Here's to more helpfull replies  8)

You still don't get it.

It doesn't matter how much you weigh (which, BTW, you only lose faster if you weigh more IFF you are exercising and even then it's like 10-15% more calories depending on how much you weigh).  If you reduce your calories by more than a specific % (and it's always 10-20ish) then your body goes into starvation mode.

In starvation mode, your body puts all of it's energy into STORING FAT.  It only burns the minimum energy needed to survive.  It sends massive signals to your brain demanding that you consume more fats and protiens and it puts you into a state of virtual shock.  You get lethargic, you put on weight, you retain water and you feel miserably hungry all the time.  And long before you would lose 50 pounds in this state, you would go to the hospital for malnutrition.

People on weight watchers eat specifically controlled meals, they lose a bunch of water weight due to the low sodium diets, their controlled meals are specifically targeted towards lots of green leafy vegetabls and the proper mix of protiens.  My brother and his wife did weight watchers and they ate HEALTHY foods in the proper proportions.

Remember, my initial assesment was that he was probably making stuff up.  It wasn't till he claimed he did it by living on 400 calories and RICE CAKES that I called bullshit.  You CANNOT lose weight that way.  The human body doesn't work like that.

If I didnt run i'd be so fat.

I feel like that too. If I don't run for a few days I start freaking out.

It's okay I don't run to lose weight I run because I love it. I do get a little freaked when I don't run but I only do 2 miles on a normal day, and I run cross country during season. I'm not so much concerned about becoming overweight, to me its about being healthy. I would never want people to see me and think I was sick. I enjoy running, but at my own pace. Sadly, I hurt my ankle a few months ago and haven't been able to rotate it without yelling out in pain. The only thing I could do was physical therapy which my doctor recommended only if I was serious about it, or using a brace/wrap for my ankle. I chose the brace, I can walk fine and do a little running but I have to take it slow and easy. I always do cardio (walking/running) at the gym, I wish I did more of it though. It is such a great work out! I'm definitely jealous, I never was the fastest runner, but that didn't stop me from it.  :)

Yeah.. that's a common myth.  Whey protien is good for providing your muscles with energy and allowing them to grow in size and if you are a heavy body builder, by all means, go for it.  But how "lean" your muscles are is a fact of genetics and not what you consume.  Nothing you eat will make your muscles "leaner."  Which is a non-sense phrase anyways...

On top of that, no one who eats a healthy diet EVER needs to add protien into their food.  You get plenty of protien from your yogurt/milk.  Anything you add on top of that is a waste of time and money.  So unless you're a vegetarian or otherwise protien deficient...

And your muscles only crave protien right after a workout.  So unless you are drinking that shake within 30 minutes of lifting.... then again, it's a waste.

Don't take my word for it though.  Research it some.

For one thing, you have to start somewhere; if you start out running a mile you wont carry on doing that forever, you'll gradually get fitter and be able to run further. And maybe some people just like running...it's not like everything you do in life has to be based around losing weight and burning calories.

If you like running, why would you only run 1 mile?

And that's a horrible logical fallacy.  Everything in life doesn't have to be based around not stabbing yourself in the throat, but I immagine you still don't stab yourself in the throat, and if anyone asked, you would tell them that stabbing yourself in the throat is a bad idea.
