Hello
On Wednesday, July 9 in Des Moines, Iowa they will be taping an episode of Bonefish Grill’s Notes From The Road for Ovation TV... The featured artist is Vanessa Carlton. She will be performing 6 songs and you will need to be there no later than 1:45pm.
No still or video cameras will be allowed since they're taping and you will be searched.
This is a limited availabilty show, so if you're interested and available to go let me know (respond here or PM me) and I can provide further information. I will need your name for the guest list.

This will be a taped performance and we're looking for some Vanessa fans in the Des Moines area to make it a special one.
The first 20 people to email their name, age, and email address to:

Winners will be required to show valid ID at the door and no cameras will be allowed (since it is a private taping).

Hey, it's not the middle of nowhere! I was so happy that we finally got Vanessa to come to the Midwest because she so rarely comes to this part of the country. You coast people get her all the time! :)
Okay, so we were supposed to arrive by 1:45pm for a 2:30pm concert but they didn't even let us in until around 3pm. Then we waited until about 3:25pm before Vanessa came out. Apparently, her flight in Denver got cancelled and she was stuck there for like 5 hours. She was supposed to arrive last night but didn't get to Des Moines until today.
Vanessa peformed 6 songs... twice. She sang OD, ATM, White Houses, HoM, Who's To Say and Home. The first time she sang them, she told short stories for each. The second time, she really didn't tell stories because this time through it was mainly for different camera angles.
OD - She talked about how she wrote it in C Major and that she wrote it with a high note in it (High C) so that it's a good vocal challenge for her to sing it. She said that she started singing by "default" because she didn't know who else would sing her songs while she was playing them. It was a cute story. :)
ATM - She just talked about the "hook" and how she sat with the hook for about a year before her producer (Ron?) told her she had to write a song for it. So, she sat down one Saturday night and forced herself to write it.
White Houses - She didn't say much except that the song is about the time in your life when everything is "dirty," ages 16-24.
HoM - She just said that it's her second single from H&T and that the song (lyrics) is self explanatory.
Who's To Say - Vanessa said this is one of her favorite songs and then she said her standard "This is for those that are in relationships that aren't approved of by either your mother or the government."
Home - She said that it is one of her favorite songs on H&T.
It was just an amazing experience and worth driving 2 hours (each way!) to see. She wasn't as chatty as I'm used to seeing her. But she did a phenomenal job. I just... Vanessa is just brilliant.
OH! And Victor was there! He fell asleep while she was playing and she joked about how she must not be doing that well because he was alseep. It was great. Vanessa had to stay and do 2 hours of interviews so I didn't get to meet her for the second time.
Apparently, she is doing a show tomorrow night in Des Moines too, which I had NO idea about. I'm a little bummed because I'm not sure I can make it there AGAIN.
Overall, a wonderful time. :)

It was a fabulous time. There was obviously a lot of people there that had only heard a song or two of hers. I think I was one of the only actual "fans" there. I saw a lot of people that were impressed by her performances and a couple people said how "cute" she is. :)
Oh, and yeah, it's going to air on Ovation TV. Apparently, it's a channel on Direct TV and one other service. Not standard cable or even On Demand. All of the places they told us it would air I don't have so I hope that someone can find it and post it somewhere for everyone to see.
It was really cute how nervous Vanessa seemed. I've never really seem her look nervous but I think some of it was because she was so late. The producer of the show kept saying how bad she felt that she was late even though it wasn't her fault. She did joke around about the decor in the room (there were fish on the walls) and her nose needing to be powdered (due to it getting HOT in the room because of all the cameras and people).
I just don't think they did a very good job of getting actual Vanessa fans there. I met a girl there that said they were just inviting random people that came in to eat in the restaurant. And the invitation for actual fans didn't come out until Monday. AND the concert they are having tonight in Des Moines, no one even knew about until Vanessa told us at the show. Even the people in Des Moines had no idea. Very strange.

Flight 1178 was delayed for nearly six hours on Tuesday after a passenger informed a flight attendant that she found a tick in economy class during a flight from Washington, D.C., to Denver.
The Chicago-based airline decided it couldn't fly the plane until it was cleaned of ticks, so passengers had to wait while another plane was flown from Colorado Springs to Denver. The flight was further delayed because of thunderstorms in the Denver area.
United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said between one and three ticks were discovered. Urbanski said the airline hasn't figured out how the ticks got on the plane or what type of ticks were found.
"I don't know if we'll be able to find that out," Urbanski said. "When possible, we do try to look into those type of things, and hopefully try to look for its origin."
The replacement plane shuttled the 107 passengers to Des Moines.
The plane with ticks had begun its day in Chicago. It was cleaned of ticks, checked and put back into service.
No ticks were found on passengers.
Ticks are eight-legged parasites that can pass along a number of illnesses to humans, including Lyme disease, which is spread by the deer tick. They are arachnids, a group that also includes spiders and mites.

Yes, that is exactly why she was delayed. She was stuck in Denver's airport for like 5 hours. Sorry I didn't explain that to begin with. :)
I don't know if Vanessa has any fans in Iowa but she definitely has some in Nebraska. I obviously am and I have friends who listen to her as well. I've been DYING for her to come to Omaha (we are a huge indie music mecca) and it was great that she did something this amazing close enough for me to drive to it! :)

I live about 4ish hours away from Des Moines. I would have gone (with lots of begging for a ride), except I had to work that day, and I couldn't get it off..
I'm also seriously annoyed at the radio station she was at (was it STAR97?). I emailed them in April asking for information, and they never answered me. I emailed multiple people. I only knew the name from her myspace and everything... And yeah, no response. So my only warning was her myspace bulletin and that wasn't enough time for me to get work off...

Anyway, I'm super excited she's been hanging around the midwest so much. The midwest doesn't get much love, so that's exciting.

I just don't think they did a very good job of getting actual Vanessa fans there. I met a girl there that said they were just inviting random people that came in to eat in the restaurant. And the invitation for actual fans didn't come out until Monday. AND the concert they are having tonight in Des Moines, no one even knew about until Vanessa told us at the show. Even the people in Des Moines had no idea. Very strange.
It is actually pretty common for random people to be invited to these types of events at the last minute.
First off, there are a limited number of seats and spaces so the goal was to get 20 people plus a guest which would be a total of 40 people ... do you think 40 fans were there? If not, then some of them decided not to show up at the last minute or couldn't make it.
Secondly, sometimes it is smart to add additional "random" people to the event so Vanessa gets more exposure to new individuals and potentially more fans.
Don't get me wrong, I agree that promotion could always be better, more advance notice would be better, etc... just saying that type of promotion is pretty costly and i don't see anyone investing millions of dollars in promoting Vanessa anytime in the future :(

Do you think this could be a sort of late "Pleased to Meet You" sort of thing? It's kind of sad how...cold it all sounds. She kind of seems over it all. I don't blame her, but it's sad.

I am not sure when Vanessa will be on because you click on the schedule and it has Bonefish Grill like on the schedule but it does not give you any info of who's going to be on the episode.

yeah, but if you click on the pictures, it takes you to the schedule, which says that it premieres Thursday, September 18th at 8 pm et/pt and that it was recorded live in des moines, iowa.

I know afterwards I was like "that was an hour?!?!?" it seemed like 10 minutes!
I was on the phone with 2 of my best friends and one was having a crisis so I was not able to pay attention to it much but I recorded it and must watch tomorrow as many times as I can! = ]

they added videos to other artist I think the last person to get videos was Jason Mraz so Vanessa should have some up soon. But from what I have seen the videos are only about 6 minutes long and are mainly interviews.

My opinion is that Vanessa just wasn't all that comfortable with the interview. She seemed figitty throughout, with lots of pauses as she picked at her words and twiddled her fingers.

She did say she wasn't big on computers a long time ago --or something to that effect. I wonder how her computer became melted? The other week I was camping and something happened to a camera or large light someone was using so they threw it into the campfire. The flames shot up to 6 feet high and when the fire was finally out there was nothing but ashes. The whole thing must have been plastic.

I think her laptop fell from atop from a car after they were driving away and didn't notice it feel until they were 50 feet away...but she can't part with it.

She probably lost the "adapter thingy" too. Next video should have her running over computers and flinging them out of cars. Laptops make good frizbees too --especially on a concrete driveway.
She probably uses it as a place to rest a hot pot of food or bakeware right out of the oven. Hence the half melted laptop.

I finally caught V's episode! Big thanks to fish for stars for posting the schedule. I recorded it on Thursday but watched it tonight when it re-aired. Oh how I miss V! Reminded me of all the Haunted Club shows we went to. I loved all the little interviews before and after the songs. The crowd seemed a little stiff except for the one row who actually sang along, yay for them! I love when they show people who know the words and look like they are having a good time.

I got home last night from the homecoming dance (it sucked, just to let you know) and I was not tired so I flipped throught the channels and I heard Ordinary Day playing and I freaked and this is at like 1 in the morning lmao so I watched it again.
