ok, i'm a dork, i admit it, lol, but i grew up on this musical (ive been singing it since the age of 2) and it's something ive never grown out of. and my teacher wants me to sing one of the songs, "think of me" at a school concert! it wasnt my choice, i thought it was way too hard... i wanted to do "How Do I" or "Pretty Baby" but she pressured me into it... so now that i'm singing this song, i'm really into this musical right now!
i have alot of the songs memorised... and i love all of them. i think it's one of the, if not the best musicals of all time!!
are there anyother fans?! lol... i like talking about it!
whats your fave song? mine is "All I Ask" :)
-
and an interesting fact....
the beginning of the All American Rejects, "swing swing" sounds very similiar to the beginning of one of the songs in Phantom... maybe a coincidence, but maybe they were inspired by the musical, lol

Guess what??? Phantom of the Opera will be made yet again, into a feature film due out in 2004. Here's the info if you want to know.
Another telling of the popular Broadway musical, based on Gaston Leroux's original novel, this new version will be directed by Joel Schumacher. The story is about a deranged, disfigured masked man, the Phantom, who roams around the Paris Opera House, haunting the actors and actresses. He falls for the young soprano, Christine Daae, and begins to tutor her. He's smitten and wants her for his own, but she still has feelings for a childhood love, Raoul Viscount de Changey. Feeling betrayed, the Phantom kidnaps Christine with plans to make her his eternal bride.
Antonio Banderas & Katie Holmes are rumoured to be the leads in the movie. And supposedly, Katie is seeing a vocal coach.

what i wouldn't give to see Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in POTO!!!!
But i have to admit... the times i've seen Lisa Vroman in SF and in NYC she is incredibly talented.
I <3 POTO but there are other plays i seem to prefer now that i have expanded my horizons to theatre since i moved out east. Like Rent! If you haven't seen Rent -- check it out :D

I agree with Jason...where are all the real Opera fans??? I'm not talking about that Baz Lurhman "Let's produce La Boheme on Broadway" sh*t and make tons of money...but I'm talking about Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Mozart, Von Weber...just to make a few. Nothing can top Otello, La Traviata, Faust, Die Zomberflute, and my favorite of all time, the Operetto Pagliacci *DIES* Der Freishutz is a great one too!

I'm not a true opera fan but I absolutely love love love POTO!!! We read the script and listened to the tape in 6th grade music class and we all fell in love with it... Then, in 7th grade, we did a POTO medley in choir... it was friggen awesome!! We turned off all the lights, we were all wearing black and we wore white gloves and we used black lights and we did motions and everything with our hands... it was the most awesome thing I've ever done in choir!!

you know how i feel about it.one song in particular anyway. 8)

At school my choir does an opera every year. They did the classical operas before I was a student, and the director went a more contemporary route for the two that I have been in. Last year it was Gilbert and Sullivan's The Yeomen of the Guard (which is cheating because it's an operetta) and this year we did The Ballad of Baby Doe, which is by the American composer Douglass Moore. I would really like to do something classical before I graduate, and my goal is to see Madam Butterfly at some point in my life.
BTW I saw Phantom in Toronto several years ago and it was fab!
