Title: Where to get music?
Post by: Vultch on May 07, 2003, 11:29:35 am
Yes piracy is evil and we're all going to prison for downloading music  So where do most of you get your music from?

kazaa...and technically if no one is making a profit for selling music, its not evil, or illegal.

Yeh, tell that to the judge man...
Personally WinMX is my first choice for tunes.
But when I find it lacking, I go to IRC:
SERVER: irc.infomatrix.net:6667
ROOM: #mp3_depot
or
SERVER: Undernet
ROOM: #mp3passion

Only for USA and Mac now, but soon for rest of the World and Windows users!

I buy all my CDs. But I always use KaZaA (even though it's crap) to listen to stuff before I buy. I hate to have CDRs in my collection (plus with the way I treat discs they don't last) :-\

I know what you mean kevin, i only use Kazaa as a way to discover new music- if i couldn't d/l music i wouldn't have been able to experience all of the wonderful music i have and i would have had to have stuck to the UK music scene.

I always buy the CDs of the people i really like, and the only time when i wouldn't do that is when i only like 1 song- in which case the CD blatantly wasn't worth buying in the first place.

Yeah, it's so useful for finding good stuff. Sticking with UK music scene (*shudder*) is definatley not an option :-\ haha

I'm suprised more people dont use IRC. It takes a bit of time to learn, but once you know how, its the most reliable way of getting anything.

IRC is good for obscure warez and betaz, but the p2p networks work fine for me, generally.

Why bother messing with it when p2p is faster most of the time?

I mean, there is always that obscure track.... but that is what I have you for Kev, right?
Title: Where to get music?
Post by: sayyouwould on May 25, 2003, 10:11:52 pm
what is an obscure warez and betaz?? Wicked confused...I just use Kazaa. On Kazaa I usually just download programs. I don't download music from it here.I usually just buy the album. I have this thing were if I like the first single I wait until the second single comes out and if I like it I buy the cd. yup! Sometimes like with Vanessa and Ev I just bought the cd. Somethings you just have this gut instinct that it is going to be good.

I'm a kazaa person... but mostly i'm only ever looking for that one thing i need... otherwise i'm buying the CD...

if it's a very specific type of music though.. I'm with charles... newsgroups are the way to go... i raid alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.celtic almost daily

kazaa like it's going out of style

and if i like the band i'll go and buy their cd at the store-gotta support them somehow  :)

i'd use winmix if i didn't have dialup, i hear that it takes a long time even on cable connection.....but kazaa is pretty good, i've been able to find about 98% of what i want

Kazaa Lite. No tracking :p

If I didn't have that I wouldn't be able to hear the J-Pop and game soundtracks before I pay the import fee to get them.  :?  Plus, I can get live and unreleased tracks that I can't get anywhere else of my favorite groups.

IRC Undernet made their servers more secure so you need an ident to log on, and my client doesnt have that so I cant use Undernet anymore. grrr I still have a little known IRC server I use for MP3s tho, it still serves me well.

Has anyone tired Ares? I just downloaded it today because Kazaa sucks now  and I can never seem to get music. Ares seems really good. So far I've gotten  15 flawless songs...which hasn't been the case with Kazaa for a while.

My brother-in-law came in my house Wednesday night raving about how wonderful Morpheus is, so I decided to try it out, and though it hogs the crap out of my bandwidth, it puts it to some great use bringing stuff in.  By the way, I mainly use it to get music videos. :)

Why does the new Morpheus hog so much of my bandwidth and processor time, even when there are no useful transfers going on?  Is this some kind of hogware?
