Post by: B on September 08, 2002, 03:45:22 pm: Well, since this is a section about other artists, I figured I'd start a thread about Nelly Furtado to see who else likes her. :)

I personally love Nelly Furtado's music. Her music and voice are extremely unique, which is a rarity in today's pop music scene. I cannot wait for her next album, it should be great. While we're waiting for that, if you haven't I suggest you go out and pick up "Whoa, Nelly!", her debut CD. :)

SO much, anyway nothing ever quite compared to 'I'm Like a Bird' but it was such a great album. She is easily the most stunning girl in pop too. Can't wait to hear it!

I don't know if you know but Nelly Furtado is very famous here because she speaks Portuguese, so Brazil did an live album with the songs of WHOA NELLY... It's not official, but most of Brazilians have it

But "Promiscuous Girl"? From the album "Loose"? WTF? I read the lyrics to that song and it is poorly written. (If you like the song, that's your choice, and I hope you enjoy it, no disrespect intended.) I just think it sounds skanky.

BTW if you're a very promiscuous girl, having sex with many, many men, you will get, er... 'loose'. Lol.

As an artist she can express herself however she chooses, but I feel that there are enough songs in the charts about sex... most songs about sex aren't tasteful, they're nasty. Wasn't keen on Whoa Nelly, but even then I respected her for the fact that she had artistic integrity and wasn't going out of her way to be too commercial. Folklore is probably one of my favourite albums, the songs have soul and meaning, and again Nelly seemed to be being true to herself etc. And now we have Loose with lyrics like "I wanna see you on your knees, knees, you either want to be with me or be me" :?
What the hell happened Nelly!? :?: She's gone from making unique meaningful songs to dealing out run of the mill (mediocre even) pop/krunk drivel, which is weak both lyrically and musically. I downloaded a few songs (payed for them, now I want my money back lol) to see what the album was like (say it right is okay but still pretty poor), Te Busque sounds like a bad eurovision entry (trust me, that's an extremely bad thing).
Seems to me Nelly has sold out, and I'm really pretty disappointed because of how good she was. I wonder if sacrificing her musical integrity/individuality will really be worth the extra air time and few extra dollars (as far as I can tell Loose isn't doing that well, maybe not even as well as Folklore, at least in the UK).

Nelly has always loved hip-hop, but realized people don't respect it (in general) the way they respect albums like the first 2 she put out. So she wanted to earn some respect first, then do what she really wanted to do (hip-hop)...she made the fatal mistake of assuming people would KEEP their respect for her once they had it. :roll:

She somehow made herself still seem like an artist to me...but I just think she's an idiot for thinking her fans wouldn't call her a sell out. It's so obvious!
