ok I'm not sure how to do this problem
(6g-3h)+(2g+5h)
g=5
h=4
I know that 6g+2g would be 8g and -3h and 5h would be 2h but after that I get lost! Can someone help me?

the answer is 78. . . . sorry baby doll, I cant help you. It confuses me :?
-
replace the letters with the numbers
(6g-3h)+(2g+5h)
g=5
h=4
(6x5 - 3x4) + (2x5 + 5x4)=
18 + 30 =
48

EDIT: SCRATCH WHAT I SAID BEFORE!
(6*5-3*4)+(2*5+5*4)
(30-12)+(10+20)
18+30
48
but I suck at math so you might want a second opinion.
-
ok so I would go
6*5=30
3*4=12
------------
*subtact* I get 24
then 2*5=10
5*4=20
----------------
*add* 30
24+30=54????

ohh geeze I just did it out on paper and got 33.4!!!
I'm so confused!!
-
NO!!!!!!!! Parenthesis (sp) FIRST! ORDER OF Operations!
6g-3h=30-12=18
2g+5h=10+20=30
18+30=
-
(6g-3h)+(2g+5h)
(6(5)-3(4))+(2(5)+5(4))
(30-12) + (10+20)
(18 ) + (30)
48

yay I finally got it!! thank you all so much for your help!! :)

Ok...the fact that a decimal point got in there confuses me
(6g-3h)+(2g+5h) g=5 h=4
First replace all the letters with their respective numbers:
(6*5 - 3*4) + (2*5 + 5*4)
Then, do all multiplication. You are always supposed to do multiplication and division before addition and subtraction:
(30 - 12) + (10 + 20)
Then, do all math inside the parenthesis:
18 + 30
Finally, finish the problem:
48

Just reamember
Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction
You do things in () First

Lol! I was wondering about that . . .

ok so just to check up on myself...
for this problem...
(-3g+5h)+(6g-6h)
g=5
h=4
[-3(5)+5(4)]+[6(5)-6(4)]
-3(5)= -15
5(4)=20
-----------
5
6(5)=30
6(4)=24
----------
6
6+5=11?
re the decimal..... hahaha I have considerably bad handwriting skills and for my X makes I make little dots in the air and for a moment I thought that it was a decimal so I multiplied then like decimals and thats how I got that!!

Looks okay

Thanks a lot!! If i do well on the test that I have not next monday but the monday after that I'll tell ya all and I'll tell my teacher that my nessaholics.com peeps helped me a lot!! :) Yup!! :) For sure!! hehe

It's 48. Even I got it.
You have to break it up and things.
We'd started out with (6g - 3h), alright? Now, switch the letters with the numbers. You should have (6 x 5 - 3 x 4). (I added multiplicatio sign thinges in there so it's easier to read.) ALWAYS DO YOUR MULTIPLYING OR DIVIDNG FIRST. So, you start from the left, and you say 6 x 5 = 30, and 3 x 4 = 12. So, it's now 30 - 1, which, is simple. It's 18. Now that you've got 18 for the left side, all you need to do is get the right side taken care of. (2g + 5h), which, if you change the letters CORRECTLY would be 2 x 5 + 5 x 4. 2 x 5 = 10 and 5 x 4 = 20. What's 10 + 20? It's 30. Then, you get the 18 back, and add, 30 + 18, which is where you get your answer, 48[/u].
