I love top 10 lists!!!!!!!  Gives me a chance to be pretentious!

First off, Some of you all are WAY to willing to throw new pop albums on your lists WILLY NILLY!  N'sync? Michelle Branch?  You can't put these albums up there with the GREATS yet cause you don't have perspective yet.  I say if an album hasn't been out ATLEAST 5-10 years then you can't truly judge how great it is.

That being said.... top 10 albums in biographical order (ascending)....

Barenaked Ladies - Gordon
This album introduced me to music as a whole.  I still treasure it as the greatest pop album EVER.  Pure joy.

Led Zepplin - 4
Best.  Rock Album.  Ever.

Pearl Jam - Vitalogy
Established PJ as more than just grunge hanger-on's.  Showed their diversity and range.  Full of dark and emotional songs.

Nevermind - Nirvana
Saved rock and roll from the synths and hair bands that enchained.  Amazing lyrics if you take the time to listen.

Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes
Introduced a generation to the "piano chick" album.  Me and a Gun is still one of the most emotional songs ever.

Counting Crows - August and Everything After
The most "catchy" album of all time.  Full of hooks and rifts that won't go away.  Every song, from start to finish, could have been a radio hit.  This is one I expect to show up on "classic rock" stations in 20 years.

Pink Floyd - The Wall
Tough call between this and Dark Side, but songs like "Wait for the Worms" and "Mother" have enough pure emotion and anger to give it the edge.

Fiona Apple - Tidal
This song reads like a diary of a troubled girl.  It's pure heartbreak from start to finish.  Authors and producers should take a lesson from Fiona in how to develop a character.

Jethro Tull - Aqualung
This album just rocks out.  Best piano opener for a song ever appears on Locamotive breath.  The whole album just SCREAMS about the excesses of human life.  Fat Man, Aqualung and Locamotive Breath are all about the consequences of our indulgences.

The Who - Who's Next
The anthem for a generation.  Nuff said.

Natalie Imbruglia--Left of the Middle

Normally, i wouldn't directly attack a top 10 choice since, first and foremost, it's about personal taste.

But in this case, I want to point out that the song "Smoke"  off of this album is tied for the WORST lyrics of all time.

What is it tied with, you may ask?  "Take the money and run" by the Steve Miller band.  With such rhyme schemes as "Billy Mack is a detective down in texas.  Knows exactly what the facts is".  Or the always amazing rhyme of "They headed down to, ooh, old El Paso
That's where they ran into a great big hassle".

Someone tell Steve that THOSE DON'T RHYME.

Then Natlie contributes the always deep and thought provoking line "What's up with that?" to the music world.  As in;

"My Lullaby, hung out to dry
What's up with that
It's over
Where are you dad
Mum's lookin' sad
What's up with that
It's dark in here"

but she says it OVER AND OVER throughout the song ruining a GREAT chorus with HORRIBLE verses.  That ALONE should knock "Left of the Middle" off the list!

hehe, those two aren't really representative of the rest of the list. If you hate maiden and ryche, steer clear of Iced Earth and Control Denied too (both also classic metal [i.e. proper metal]). Narnia and Impellitteri are hard rock bands, Dream Theater are progressive rock. All 3 of them have supreme neo-classical lead guitarists. Murphy, Michel Angelo and Cacophony (2 people) are pure neo-classical metal. Vai, is the hendrix of the nineties (only he's better than hendrix, as are all the guitarists on my list ;))

Edit: If you like this kind of thing (below) then it's worth persuing some of the names on there. It's usually love or hate with this kind of stuff though. Just depends on your tastes.

It's cool.  Everybody has different opinions

To be honest, that song is not exactly among my favorite Natalie songs either.  I wouldn't exactly call it a black mark either.  It has some really great music and the lyrics are okay (though, I agree, not among the best).  Either way though, IMO, it certainly isn't enough to knock off an album with such great songs as "Torn", "Wishing I Was There", "Leave Me Alone", "Pigeons and Crumbs", and especially the title track.  I will say though, while I still think Natalie is great, I am somewhat disappointed when it comes to "White Lillies Island".  It's decent, but comes nowhere close to "Left of the Middle".

Now, I do agree with you about "Little Earthquakes".  Though "Scarlet's Walk" is my favorite of hers, LE is next.  Though I really do NOT like "Me and a Gun" (due to what the song is about), I really love the other songs on there.  Like "Crucify", "Winter", "Mother", and especially "Tear In Your Hand".

I reverse LE and Scarlets walk.  LE is #1 for me and Walk is #2.

I don't LIKE "Me and a Gun" because it makes me want to slit my wrists... but its an AMAZING song.  I mean, that REALLY happened to her.  It was actually the first song of hers I ever heard.  Scarry.

Winter is such a great song.  I got to hear "Tear In Your Hand" live a few months ago.

Have I mentioned to everyone that I met Tori yet? hehehehehehe.

There's definitely a lot of quality albums in this topic.
Vanessa Carlton - Be Not Nobody
Michelle Branch - The Spirit Room
Smashing Pumpkins - Melon Collie and the Inifinite Sadness
                                Earphoria
Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
Scenes from A Memory: Metropolis Part 2
Enchant -  The Blink Of An Eye
Sarah McLachlan - Mirrorball
The Corrs - Forgiven Not Forgotten
DJ Tiesto - In My Memory
Jakatta - Visions

And Hotel Paper will probably appear in this list before too long as well. It still needs some time yet.

See, you say you love the song then you quote the GOOD chorus.  The chorus of the song is GREAT! it's the VERSES that suck!!! And they suck BADDDDDDDD!

Listen to them! "those words at best, were worse than teenage poetry"

A cool point to anyone who can ID that quote!

Vanessa~Be Not Nobody

LOL! You were doing good till I hit Hanson

A piece of your childhood?  You were what, 14 or 15 when it came out?  Old enough to know better, amiright?

Lets see, I know I remember hearing it in the summer... and I was atleast 17 cause I had my license.  So you were probabaly 14 then.  Yes?

Ok Ok, so adolecense might have been a better word, but I've grown up a lot since then so I still consider most of my teenage years in that mindset.  Anyway I was in 8th grade when it came out, I was 13.

"There’s just a few things
I think that you should know
Those words at best
were worse than teenage poetry
Fragment ideas
and too many pronouns
Stop it, come on
You’re not making sense now
You can't make them want you
They're all just laughing "

Taking Back Sunday.

No...?

Yay for Si!!!!!

*chalks up a cool point for Si*

Another I sure thought I had already answered, but I guess not.  So here goes my uneducated guess:

Robert Johnson - King of the Delta Blues Singers
The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Led Zeppelin - Four Symbols (IV or ZOSO)
Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
The White Stripes - Elephant
The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
Green Day - (Liquid) Dookie
Green Day - Kerplunk
Vanessa Carlton - Be not Nobody

These are just a few that I could think of that are in my own collection.  I'm sure there are lots more that could go on this list.
