omg!! brits need to know about jewel! I couldn't believe you guys don't even know her.

neway, i really prefer her old folk jewel. If she's trying to be all britney and christina, well, she isn't going to beat them; i think it's a little too late. Just stay with your old self.

I love standing still and I love Intuition yup...just thought I would through that out there....yup..
Title: New Or Old Jewel?
Post by: LimeTwister on June 23, 2003, 06:52:24 pm
the first couple are folkish, Hands is kind of "up lifting", standing still gives me a country vibe, and intuition is "exotic pop".

Kev-I didn't think you were actually serious that you didn't know who Jewel was, lol i'm sorry-but really, her older stuff is so much better! She used to show her talent, now all I see is an artist trying to be like Britney and Christina-unless i'm wrong, and she's just using this first single to scare us, or prove something-but I still hate it, LOL.

Ughhhh.

Old Jewel. Her look and music : OLD. She got gay, like Sheryl and Alanis. What is the deal with women in the music business? Vanessa better not get gay or I'm shootin' someone.

She told Carson Daly on, "Last Call With Carson Daly" that she was just, "Having Fun."

LOL, well Vanessa has changed quite a bit, no doubt about that-which is why i'm kinda growing out of her and into Michelle Branches music, cuz she has kept her style-so who knows, we'll just have to wait and see what Vanessa's next record is like.

Oh yeah, and Sheryl has gone kinda pop, I don't like her much anymore, (tho her duet with Michelle is awesome, and duet with Kid rock) but I still like Alanis...

I agree. That is a freaking awesome album. I love old Jewel, ("Pieces of You" was the first CD I ever owned) and "Intuition" is really starting to grow on me. Some of the songs on "0304" are good. I love "Stand" "2 Find U" and "America". But, all in all, I'd say OLD JEWEL!

I love all Jewel.

"Pieces of You" is still the best.  I do love her latest album, though.  She's changed it up a little with all the albums.  She went even further with the new one.  Still love it.

I think the only difference between This Way and 0304 is that the guitar isn't the main instrument in 0304. A lot of the songs on her new CD could've gotten away on This Way (which is friggin awesome).

I like 0304, no doubt about it- i just can't help thinking she is capable of such a great deal more, you know? 'This Way' is easily one of the best albums i own- produced just enough and with such amazing lyrics. And people liked that. Yes, 0304 is a very good album but i can't help thinking her talent is so completely and utterly wasted.
Title: New Or Old Jewel?
Post by: jlmusicchick on August 03, 2003, 09:41:38 am
they did a special with Jewel on VH1 where they showed the work she did in the recording studio and she basically said that she did this album to show that she wasn't just a folk singer, and that she had other interests. I don't know, i just can't get passed the fact that she's so much better as a folk singer than what she's doing on her new album.
Title: New Or Old Jewel?
Post by: rosieposy87 on August 03, 2003, 09:51:50 am
Exactly, her voice is just wasted. She can sounds so different on every single song on 'This Way', as a pop singer she's amazing but she could be so much better. I mean, how many pop singers produced and write their whole album? Barely any, i think its a waste of her time.

I don't believe that to be exactly true. Her voice is not wasted on 0304. She has so many great songs on 0304, she is not wasting her time, it is truly a good album. There are plenty of pop artists that write and produce their albums: Christina Aguilera, Samantha Mumba, Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, Christina Milian, and plenty other.

i think that 0304 was a very brave and bold move on jewels part becuase she had to know that most of her fans wouldn't exactly be thrilled by it, and i think it's cool that she branches out to all different kinds of music. for that i give her a lot of respect. i'm just hoping that she doesn't stay pop, because then that would be a true waste of talent

I wouldn't call all of them pop singers. And no, her voice isn't completely wasted but i think its a waste of her time to produce such an album when she is capable of so much more. She has one of the most powerful voices in music so i just can't see why she's producing this kind of music. Its not that i don't like it, because i do- i just think she's so much more talented than that.

Her voice isn't completely wasted, but I agree she has put it to better use. However, I love "Haunted". Her voice is awesome. I can't believe that she nailed that in one take! Proves how talented she really is.

Though I do like Intuition, despite the absolute horrendousness of the video, I have to go with Old Jewel. I adore all four of her albums. I don't mind expanding to new genres but i hope she still keeps her folk roots.

I love this song. I'm surprised they didn't make her change the "hookers and hash" line. But that's probably because it's on so late. The radio version will probably be edited, and that sucks.
