Title: Recurring Dreams?
Post by: Zebrakorn on June 25, 2003, 05:33:55 am
I keep getting this bizarre dream all the time about going back to school even though I'm blatantly a bit beyond school now. Every time I'm running late and I don't know where I'm supposed to be when I get there. Kind of an anxiety thing I guess.

Anyone else get recurring dreams or nightmares? I used to get the standard drowning nightmare all the time when I was young to the point where I learnt to wake myself before it got to the drowning bit.

Really? lol .. I guess it's a standard dream then. Weird. Anyone else get that one? Makes me wonder what's going on in my head when I sleep.

well almost everyone has experienced one or more dreams that contain anxiety or outright fear. For some, unpleasant dreams or nightmares recur repeatedly for others, the content may change while the theme remains the same, such as scenes of falling, or of being pursued or attacked, late or unprepared for a presentation or an exam, stuck in slow motion, unable to move or scream, or naked in public, to name a few common themes. lol This type of experience, when unpleasant, is usually associated with lack of progress by the dreamer to recognize and solve related conflicts in life.

I can remember i kept having this dream where there was this sandwhich i just couldnt reach to eat..i dont know its like i wanted the sandwich so bad but couldnt reach for it.... i had to do all kinds of crazy things just to get it...i would always dream that and the more i dreamed about the more i couldn't reach for the sandwich....then finally when i finish the dream one night..the sandwich was posion..it was like a sign of maybe someone wanting to poison me in real life..i dont know i'm crazy..lol

i'm just sayin maybe you keep having these dreams for a certain reason in your life...The goal is still to put an end to nightmares and recurring dreams, but by evolving them into more beneficial scenarios, and not by blocking, ignoring or denying them, because if you block, deny or ignore such messages from the subconscious for too long, then it simply speaks ‘louder’ to get our attention often by bringing related events, which I call daymares, into our waking hours..so i say finish the dream sweetie ...lmao

lol .. yeah .. that makes a lot of sense. I'm going through a lot of stress right now and went through some nasty borderline depression because of a load of things I'm trying to sort out. So I guess that's gonna cause some interesting dreams lol.

I used to also get the one where you can't move properly.. where you're slowed down as though the air is really thick and your legs are too heavy =)

Wow Jen.  That was an extremely intelligent, well thought out, response to Matt's question.

So where did you copy and paste that from?  Cause we all know you can't type a paragraph that long, with proper comma usage, AND leave out the "..." every other word.

I had a recurring dream about Michelle Branch for like 2 months.  It was creepy cause im not even a huge Michelle Branch fan.

I am never going to write a paragraph without using my dots ever again, I would never copy anything, you probably do and i don't care what you think about my typing anyway. i'll use my dots when i feel the need too ".........................................................................................................................................................."
So , therefore go screw yourself and even if i did copy some of it (which i haven't)...who gives a shit ..lol I am just trying to help someone anyway not win some sort of contest. A little afraid someone might be smarter then you? hm.

Anyone interested in knowing about her being a liar, go read the 2nd paragraph of that page.

It took me all of 5 minutes to find.  Hurry up and edit your posts!

You know Jen, for all the crap I give you, I have consistently defended you when the cards were down... till now.  Cause a blatant lie and purgery aren't things to be taken lightly.

I'm not even gonna bother with an intelligent response to the rest of you children.  Since I am, in fact, an asshole, I'll just turn up my nose and ignore you.

hm.

My own personal pride aside, I never should have responded to Matt the way I did.  Apologies.

It just bugs me when people get away with passing off information as their own when it isn't and the fact that he doesn't seem to care irked me.  But really, it's none of my business what anyone does or does not do with what I show them.  If he doesn't care that Jen copied and pasted, then who am I to criticise him.  Maybe he's just more tolerant than I am.

You know what, I used to have a recurring dream that I was at school, but I was lost and couldn't find my classes.  Sometimes i would even dream I was back in HS.  And i've been out of college for 2 years now.

They say that the important thing about dreams is the EMOTIONS you feel.  It's like, dreams are kicked off by an emotion you feel and then your body creates a story to explain the emotion.

No idea if that's true or not, but it would explain a lot of things.

Actually I believe that dreams and daydreams both are just our minds inability to store all of the information we learned in our lifetime.  I believe that suppressed subconscious thought, especially bad memories, or our fears are something we cannot hide from......Its kind of like when you want to stop thinking about something, and the harder you try the more you think about it

Yeah, but like, i've never been consciously panicked about not being able to find my classes.  I'm not the kind who scouts out the classroom before hand, or who carries two copies of his scedule around for 3 weeks.  You know?

It's not a conscious worry of mine.  I don't think about it.  So why have dreams about it then?

Yeah that's kinda similar to mine. Going to school and not knowing where I'm supposed to be and on top of that I'm late so classes have already started. Mine's a feeling of anxiety I guess.. and of not fitting in as well.

Do you panic when you are late for work?  is there something you should have done and you are procrastinating?   I am relating this to subconscious thought, more along the lines of something that should bother you, or maybe shouldnt, but subconsciously it affects you more than in conscience because you have other things that are more important when you are actually awake.....generally dreams are a point in time when you can think about all the little things...however if i think about one thing a lot before sleep i will have a dream about it...which is kinda handy for making my night exciting.......its whatever is on your mind, even if you dont know its on your mind due to the fact that its a subconscious response or smaller matter.........Also old problems that are just part of memory, also subconscious in general..

Ah! Now we are getting somewhere.  There is no such thing as late for work, cause I have a flex schedule.  BUT, I do have procrastination issues and I tend to dwell on the things I SHOULD be doing too much.

Especially right before I go to sleep, cause thats when I sit and make lists in my head of all the stuff I need to do.

So I guess that kinda goes back to the idea that dreams are just visualizations of the things we feel while we sleep.

Thats exactly what i am saying.  When you are conscious you can think clearly and consciously about your problems.  However in a dream state you can only relate your feelings to a mixture of memories drawn from the subconscious.  Thus dreams usually never seem to completely relate to your current life, but always give you that feeling that there was an important message within.

I keep getting this bizarre dream all the time about going back to school even though I'm blatantly a bit beyond school now. Every time I'm running late and I don't know where I'm supposed to be when I get there. Kind of an anxiety thing I guess.

Omg! Ok, well i'm still in school-but like a week or so before I go back to the next trimester-I always have this dream where I go back and don't know where i'm supposed to be when I get there also! It's so freaky-i've had this dream like every single time before I go to the next trimester, & I always forget to get my schedual or something. It's weird!

And also-it's not a reacurring nightmare-but I had it when I was like 7 years old, a long time ago-and I still remember it!! Like I used to live in a huge house-had alot of land and stuff, & one night I had a nightmare that I got lost, ended up at someones house or something at night-wen't down their slide a few times & hung out with them, & there was this golden face following me-then I got home, walked around the kitchen table a few times, wen't into a room-and there was a golden face just floating in the room. I have no idea why I still remember that dream I had when I had it like 10 years ago, lol.

It's gotta be my old house or something-my parents built it, it was like huge-but something else happened to, it wasn't a dream or anything, tho it sure felt like it...my friend was over and we both saw it so i'm not crazy, lol. There was this like scarecrow looking guy that pointed a rake towards us, & we both started running for our lives!! lol oh my gosh, my dad didn't see anything tho, but my friend saw it so I couldn't have been lying, lol-I know it's weird. Just thought i'd share  :)

In many dreams, I am pregnant. No clue about that! And the circumstances are always different in every dream.

Well, right now I'm not having any dreams at all (or I do and can't even roughly remember what they're about).

I like the kind of dreams when you jump up from your sleep and are soo relieved that it was only a dream.

Oh I just remembered something..don't you guys just hate when you kinda fall asleep, then you wake up really fast, like almost falling out of bed? lol. That used to always happen to me-too weird.
I also hate the dreams where you feel like you are going to fall, and you can't stand up straight-kinda like what someone else said earlyer-it's like you cling onto something or someone-I just don't get dreams at all sometimes  :?

Oooh, I also had a dream when I started getting into BSB I would always have this dream where I see them in concert underwater-with not alot of people, & Brian or AJ would always throw either a teddy bear-or a frizebee into the crowd, & i'd catch it, lol.

Oooh, this is so fun telling about my dreams!! lmao I just remembered, I have had several dreams of my cute P.E. teacher-i dunno what is up with that... , i told my friends and now they are all like "there goes your boyfriend" everytime he walks past...I get so embarassed, lol...& one time I was telling them about a dream I had with him, & he all of a sudden when we were laughin about it, walked up to me and asked me about something, they were trying not to laugh, I was like "oh crap!" lol

Sorry i'm writting so much, I  just keep thinking of more dreams!

what does procrastinate mean...?

Ohh ohh!  From the Latin "cras" which is "tomorrow"!

Yep that sums up everything I learned in Latin this year . . .

Hmm do you ever feel like you're falling and then your leg jumps really quickly, so it hits the bed like when you hit the ground?  That scares me sooo much

I sometimes get dreams where it's a horrible nightmare and I wake up so I'm in the real world and then the nasty stuff starts happening again and I'm really scared.. and then I wake up again lol

I once had a dream a couple years ago about being tied by my hands to the basement ceiling and all these centipedes flying at me from everywhere... That dream is such a horrible dream because I swear, I have the BIGGEST fear of centipedes than anyone I've ever heard of... I mean, I see one and I start to cry, lol.. I used to have them in my room all the time during the summer in my old house... it was horrible!

To the girl that said she can't believe she remembers her dream from 10 years ago, I remember being in a hospital in a crib with plastic all around it thinking I was on the wall.. I remember exactly what the room looked like, I remember that there were stuffed animals at my feet, and bars across the top of the crib... There was nobody in my room and I was scared as hell.... It was a white room and there was a window to my left and a door to my right.. there was a wooden rocking chair next to the window with a teddy bear sitting in it, there was also light shining into the room so it had to have been the middle of the day and I was crying so loud but still nobody was coming to check on me.... I told my mom about this because I thought it was a dream I had a while ago and she told me that it actually happened and that the doctors wouldn't let her in to see me....

I had a recurring dream when I was about 6 or 7 years old about standing on clouds in a robe with about 9 other kids from different ethnicities also in robes... There was an adult male there in a white robe with blond shoulder length hair motioning us to go to this mansion in the clouds... That's the only thing I remember from that dream.. But, a few years later, I joined a religious group called Eckankar and found out who that man was... Gopal Das. If you go to www.eckankar.org and click around a little, I think you can see what that guy looks like.. He's the only long blond haired man in it..

And lately I've been having dreams about hummingbirds.. The first one was I was in my backyard with somebody else(don't remember who) and a few hummingbirds came over to us.. One of them perched on my extended finger... And, if you know anything about hummingbirds you know they fly away at the first sight of motion from an animal or human.. and also, they are pretty territorial...

How could I forget this?
I ALWAYS have dreams that I am talking on the phone with somebody (or talking directly to somebody), and slowly, I'm drifting off to sleep. It's not just regular sleep. It's this paralyzing sleep. I can't speak and can't pull myself out of it.

Soo strange.

Hey, aren't centipedes those white things with a bunch of legs or something? Cuz when I was little I saw one of those in my house, and didn't know what it was, and touched it, lol

It's odd when you have dreams about people that aren't really significant in your life.

And you wonder why was I thinking about that person in my sleep?

Oh boy.
