Title: XM Radio
Post by: Grakthis on July 08, 2003, 06:38:18 pm
So this is one of the cooler things I Have done in a while.  The website ecost.com was selling the song "portable" XM radio unit for 125 bucks with a 75 dollar rebate.  Seems good, no?  ANd i've been saying for a while when the prices came down on the units I was gonna get in on this, so I did.

So my unit arrived today.  It took me 10 minutes to hookup to my home stereo.  The antenna is surprisingly strong and withing 30 minutes I had the thing hooked up and working.

Damn this sounds GOOD.  I mean, i've got like 130 channels of music and news streaming into my home stereo at amazing quality.

So has anyone done this?  Supposedly I can buy a car kit for this unit and carry it out to my car with me.  This is what I really want to do since I do quite a bit of driving for work.  Being able to listen to the same station for an entire trip would be nice.

Thoughts?

That's really nice.  Whenever football and other crap I do for work kicks back up in the fall, I'll have to see if I can find one as cheap as you did.

It would come in REAL handy for me because I'm a HUGE sports radio fan and good sports radio stations are hard to find--especially in rural Statesboro, Georgia where GSU is kept.

Wow... excellent deal...  I always wanted to get a car unit that was XM ready... but that portable sounds great!  If things ever settle back in I will probably look into it...  how much is the subscription?

Subscription is 9.99 a month.  Which is a bit steep IMO, but worth it right now.  Especially when im sitting at work.  If nothing else, it may stop me from buying BAD CD's JUST cause I need something to listen to.

So you pay for the unit then you only pay 9.99 a month? I've been wanting to get it, but I wasn't sure if I would be buying a load of crap or not...Sounds good from what you said.

Yep.  Once you buy a unit its 9.99 a month.  And it's all I listen to when im at home because I LOVE the "deep tracks" station.  It's a classic rock station that plays songs with some kind of meaning or emotion to them.  They are doing a countdown of the top 4,000!!!! songs in alphabetical order!  It's awesome.
