I am trying to get ahold of something herre:
ftp://24.198.171.252
The dudes instructions were:
If you are asked for a username and password, type in YOUR NAME, and leave the password space blank.
It is located in LP videos->TV Appearances folder.
And me not knowing what the hell I am doing, I would like if someone could add it to their site, and so I could just download it and save it, then add it to my site and delete it....Thanks..
[Daniel]

I'll have a look see..
-
Thank you, it's the episode of Tom Green, with Linkin Park on it...
-
Looks like maybe the server isn't set up properly or there's some kind of connection problem. I'm trying to connect to it through ftp and it isn't interested. If I run a trace route on it, it gets as far as somewhere around Portland and then times out. It won't reply to Ping requests either.
You sure it's turned on? lol
Is it your friend's pc?
-
Someone posted it in the LPU, hold on a sec, and thanks for trying! :D
-
Oh here we go .. it's in Herndon, VA .. whatever VA stands for . is that Virginia? =)
-
Well I can't connect to it anyway. It's not very happy about that whole concept. It closes the connection straight away.
-
In his post he said, that it only allows 3 users at a time, do you think that is it? I would give you a link but the LPU is password protected...cause you have to pay for it...
I'm PMing you
-
he set up this, I don't know if you need it or not...

Sorry I had a friend over for a bit so had to leave this. I'll have another look now though.
-
It's cool

ooh, that is where I am :) and yes, that is Virginia ;)
I'm *pretty* sure the box isn't up...if it is, then it doesn't respond to ping (perhaps icmp is turned off) but that is fairly unlikely. It's a cable IP... off a cable modem so my hunch is it is down now.

*shrug*
not to mention, when port scanning it, ftp didn't show up as an open port, so even if they are blocking icmp, i would have seen the ftp daemon running.
is he *sure* it's running/working? :)
-
I will check with him again on saturday, I have to go now since my computer at home is broken and I am at the dang library....I should be back on saturday...
Thanks for trying for me!
-
I bet he turned his pc off ; )

LOL!
I love this message board! YOu ask for help downloading a file and your friends figure out where the server PC is, what ports are open, who provides his internet access, what he had for breakfast and his favorite color.
Soooo Katia. What ports DOES he have open? *looks innocent*
What port scanner do you use anyways? MS's?

It looks like she is using a BSD or Linux. Somehow I doubt she is using Microsoft software. More likely, she has nmap. On a more serious note, I didn't know MS made a port scanner.
[katia@utopia] ~> whois -h whois.arin.net 24.198.171.252
I put
alias arin "whois -h whois.arin.net"
in my shell initialization file. So, I just type
% arin 66.134.107.12
and I have my ARIN lookup.

MS makes a port scanner that comes with their advanced server package. They make sniffers, scanners, visual whois and traceroute utils etc. You just have to buy their server apps packages. They also make a lot of great stuff that they just flat out DON'T sell but if you have a specific problem and ask their support people about it, they will give it to you.
They have one that actually tells you all the DLL's a specific EXE uses as you run it. Good stuff.

I'll have to check that out when I go to work tomorrow. My boss most likely has it floating around someplace.

and i don't just whois off arin, so i didn't create the alias. I whois off so many diff rwhois servers depending on the sitution i just type it out. I could alias all the common ones... netsol, arin, dotster etc... but i type so damn fast i haven't really found it to be incredibly useful :)
i would never use windows for a server, the thought frightens me. I have 3 BSD machines and two solaris boxen, i prefer BSD.
EDIT: Yes, i use NMAP

Did you try just looking on Kazaa? hehe.....errrmmm....want's him some LP....haha!

Use GNU jwhois. Automagically looks up the right server and uses that. It's a feature I think should have been added to the FreeBSD version long ago. Maybe they updated it in 5.x, but I haven't used 5.x yet. 4.x runs perfect for me right now.....

lmao .. Poor Daniel ; )

I know, i need to up to 5, but blah. production servers make things like that more difficult. Plus i'm a bitch about my uptime so i hate rebooting :)
i think BSD 4.x has a pretty advanced whois lookup already, i'll have to fuss on my friends 5.x box and see the diff :)

lmao .. I really do feel sorry for you. You're surrounded by techies and non of them are doing anything to ease your discomfort .. they just continue with the torrent of technical jargon. But don't worry.. it's nothing you need to know, and possibly never will need to know .. if that's any consolation = )

And should I give him a link to this and request that he come help you?

LoL! The thing is, I thought I knew alot about computers and building sites and stuff before this....hehe! Its funny though..
-
Oh there's always stuff you don't know .. somewhere out there there's always someone who can baffle the pants off you ; )
-
LoL! True!
But if any of your like to make video caps....I have something you can do....haha!
I would be doing so much better if I didn't have to work with these library computers, they have paint and imaging disabled...Not to mention all the things they have blocked...FOR NO REASON!
