It's an interesting story. I know he has gotten the state into some serious debt problems, but why else is everyone so mad at him? I don't so much keep up with California politics.

Well he almost kept me and alot of other students from getting a diploma, teachers that have only been teaching for two years could be laid off at anytime because of the budget crises or whatever thanks to him. I just think he's a bad gov. We'd be better off with him out of office. Heck, get him out of the state...

As Laura said, many teachers face the threat of a lay off, simply because there is now not enough money to pay them. But still, all over the state, other state employees are getting raises, especially school administrators and superindents. When they fire teachers, that causes the class sizes to get higher, which means that each student gets that much less attention, but makes a ton of work for each teacher. (my mom's a teacher...of the 2nd grade variety) Gray Davis always said that he was the education govenor...I guess that means he likes to screw over those trying to give an education. Class sizes in the lower grades will probably go up again to 30+ students with no aides.
Also, college tuition at the state universities (where I go to school) was raised by roughly 25% for the Fall 2003 semester and will be raised another 30% for the Spring 2004 semester all because there is not enough state funding.
Car registration will triple starting in October because there isn't enough money.
The funny thing is...he new about the budget "issue" in September of 2002, but didn't say anything until almost December 2002...after he was sure he got re-elected. Hmm...

He does alot for the schools, and anybody would be better than Davis, I'd make my mom vote for him, :wink:

- Davis used millions of dollars to completely destroy his strongest challengers campaign leaving the people with no real choice in the election of 2002. Many Californians feel he "bought" the election.
- Davis' budget raises the state sales tax to an insane amount and triple the auto licensing fee. (pointing out that californians already pay the most for gas out of anyone it he country) who the hell could afford to drive in cali?
- He wanted to tax everything he could on the internet from e-commerce to e-mail to help bail him out of his budget crisis.
- there are 59 basic aid districts -- where enough property taxes are collected to pay for school programs without additional aid from the state.
Now, those are considered wealthy districts and Davis wants to raid them to help pay the state's $30 billion budget deficit.
He just simply demonstrates over and over that he doesn't know what he's doing... doesn't care about taking whatever he wants from the people of California... and refuses to admit that he created the mess that they're in. It's like he's in a delusional world of his own...

He was elected only twice. And the second time, he won by 5% of the vote. His challenger was someone who has never held a political office before and who totally screwed up his campaign. He was also pretty conservative, even for a Republican. A "Right-Wing Extremist" almost won California because Davis sucks so much.
A RINO was running, but he lost the primaries. Had he won the Republican primaries, polls say he would have won by huge margins.
Davis was only reelected because the only other major party candidate was extremely conservative.

oh another lovely thing about the CA governement under Davis... The fleet of government vehicles = 70,000 vehicles. in the state where it costs the most to maintain and drive a car... and some still wonder how he managed to bankrupt the state...
