i hope she releases one of her not-so-pop songs, because i know they just like to release songs like atm and pretty baby becuase they're easily pleasing to a lot of people, but her "darker" songs, or whatever you want to call it are so good and show who she really is, and a lot of people dont see that, you know what i mean?
like they just stereo type her in with female pop singers, and she's so much more than that
like, for example, i work at the hollywood bowl, and me and some people on my staff were messing around with the piano and i played some of "wanted" and no one belived me when i said it was vanessa carlton, they were like "no that doesnt sound like her, that sounds all scary and cool" and im just like.. well maybe if you listened to her album you'd know its not all what you think it is..
wow this post is really long
sorry i just felt the need to share this, anyone else understand what i mean?

i suppose i know what you mean, it would be cool if one of those types of songs were to be her next single when the new album comes out but alotta times the more popish ones are the singles because they do better for sales, which sorta sucks. but i <3 all her songs so its allllllright
good work there... Clicky clicky! (http://www.trixiedish.com/happynow.html)

So what your saying is you want her to release a song as a lead single from the CD that will only appeal to a SMALL percentage of the population and basically bomb and be a career ender.
Interesting concept but I think the lead single should have a wider appeal than that... but thats just me. What do I know?
-
no, what i mean is that it sucks that thats the way things work out, i am aware that if she realeased one of those songs it probably wouldn't do so well, i just wish that wasn't the case and she COULD release those songs and have people like her for them.
no need for the indirect rudeness.

I'm with ya Jess... BNN was full of songs they could have run with... but due to all kinds of dumb ass crap they didin't do anythign for VC to keep her momentum going... I mean Pretty baby was a gorgeous song and then they completely screwed it over for radio,. no wonder it bombed.
BUt wanted is kick ass... and definitely the ripe mix could have been HUGE!!! ;)
-
hehe thanks ;)
yes i absolutely love wanted, i made it into a ring tone for my phone and everyone that hears it ring is like "whoa what is that its cool!"
and i play it on the piano and it impresses people =) hehe

I know! I love that. :D :D

the era of dark pop is upon us!

I was talking about this on another forum. Her new sound sounds very interesting, although very risky. Either she will bomb or change the face of music as we know it. Hopefully she changes the face of music as we know it. And it is quite possible. This may stop the fad of rap collaberations (which stopped the fad of boy bands and poppy female vocalists).
I bet she will release a darker song, but the record company will always push for the more radio-friendly song on the album. Most likely, first she will release the most poppy song on the album, which isn't saying much. From interviews I've read and seen, she's looking for this whole album to be a little darker. More songs like "Wanted" and "Rinse." Although, we can always hope for better.
-
pretty baby did flop, so maybe the label will give her a chance with darker music?
I am thinking the next single could be dark carnival (when they add all the instruments and stuff backs) because the original was irresistable, and this version is going to a video game...and besides i have a video concept (lol).
so who knows? Whatever they do they need to get it out better then they did the last 2 songs.
-
hopefully the video concept is different that the damn near identical video concepts for the first three... ;)
If they do dark carnival.. I wanna see VC do a whole Bond-esque Spy hunter Vid :) lol
-
it's different from atm and od and pb...although it's nothing spy/bond like.
-
ooh yeah that'd be cool! like have her wear a black outfit and go around like a spy!
-
I see what you mean Jessica... I bet Wanted would do better than Pretty Baby did! I've never heard them ruin a song so much as they did Pretty Baby.
Jason: Just say no to that Ripe Mix!
-
i wished vanessa would have had released rinse instead of pretty baby... (tense?) people knowing that she wasn't all that sweet and naive looking would see how strong she is... and lyrically, i say she's very poetic and sophisticated...

Music "experts" really can't tell what's going to sell and what's not - they can only make conjectures. A noted "expert" told the Beatles that guitar bands were on the way out in 1962. 41 years later, they haven't even peeked out the window! And as much as I don't like her, Christina Aguilera's insistence on "Dirrty" being the lead single off her current album over the record company's suggestion of "Beautiful" paid off in a major way. She was totally changing her sound and image, and she wanted to make a statement with it at the very front. Back to the Beatles, who are an excellent example of what it means to be revolutionary in music, when they started producing more sophisticated and classically-influenced material in 1966, some people thought it was a little weird to say the least, but '66-'69 proved to be their greatest period, and the beginning of an era in music that is still powerful today. I really do want people to be able to see Vanessa Carlton for what I know she is and not as just another Top 40 popstar. That might require breaking some molds and upsetting the status quo.
-
that was insightful...
-
Yea, well I guess it is too late now....Although Pretty Baby did really well here...
Lets just hope for good on the new album!

If you aske me, "Pretty Baby" was the clear choice to release. She should have released that and "Ordinary Day" on Hot AC as well. They weould have done better there, atleast "Pretty Baby" would.
"Pretty Baby" went to #21 which actually beats out a lot of third singles people had. Such as "Overprotected" ~ Brtiney Spwars which went to #34, and "Objection (Tango)" ~ Shakira which only went to #23. At that time it was not good for Vanessa to release something dark, I'm willing to bet "Wanted" or "Rinse" would not have made it past #30. Although, she did have room for a fourth single seeing as Shakira and Britney both had one. I think if she did, she should change it up a bit and go with a faster song, "Unsung."

yeah, i agree.
sounds like from what nessa has said, that the new album is going to be somewhat darker. so i would predict that she's going to release a more darker song as a single. hopefully it will do well on radio. i know i'm going to love it, but people who aren't nessa fans may find it hard to get used to or whatever.

Oh yes I'm you Jason on this one!!
Vanessa could be the new Jinx ("Die Another Day") and replace Halle Berry!! haha

i wished she would of released "unsung" it is my favorite song on BnN.
