Jennifer Lopez / Vanessa Carlton Ribbon Tank

J-Lo has made a new craze with her ribbon shirt in her video “All I have”. Follow these directions to make your own Jlo ribbon tank.
What you need:
· A piece of ribbon long enough to wrap around your chest under your bust, and the length that you want the ribbon to hang. (Jlo had a black silk ribbon)
· A white tank top
· Thread that matches the ribbon your using
· Scissors (to cut the length of the ribbon)
· Sewing needle
· Sewing pencil
How to do it:
1. Put on the tank top.
2. Tie the ribbon around your chest (under your bust) into a bow.
3. Cut off the ribbon to the length that you want it to hang.
4. Take the sewing pencil and mark where the ribbon is under you arm on both sides - both on the ribbon and the tank.
5. Untie the ribbon.
6. Take off the tank top
7. Take the needle and thread, matching up the lines you marked on the tank and the ribbon, sew the ribbon to the shirt in a verticle line on both sides.
Yeah! It’s done! Put the tank back on and tie the bow, slip a skirt on and some sandals and here we come!

(i posted the following on one of my fave crafting sites)
This is me in my shirt I made for my bday lunch last friday

--- this  blue shirt was too short and I never wore it - in fact I hated it - but i wanted to try some hand - stitching so i cut up some white felt into little flowers and handstitched them on with blue thread - and voila i wear a little white tank top underneath and a shirt i hate turns into my favorite shirt - even my mom (who hates all my clothes) said how much she loved it - thats her in the picture!

(from a fave site)
Being somewhat petite, I've got a not insignificant collection of band t-shirts that are just too big and unflattering.  Luckily I can now cut and resew them to fit!

I've only done one so far and here's the pictorial:

Lay your t-shirt out flat and iron it.

Use tailors chalk (easy to find at a sewing store) and a ruler to mark off how much you want to cut off the sides and underneath of the sleeves.  I used a t-shirt that I liked the fit of as a guide and added 1 inch.

[td]Pin all the way along those lines and cut the excess material away.  Pinning helps you keep the t-shirt front and back from moving away from each other.

Turn the t-shirt inside-out and re-pin the front and back together evenly.  Machine-sew the sides and underneath the sleeves with a strong stretch-capable stitch.

I then turned it right-side-out, tried it on and didn't like the way it fit so I made two more types of cuts.  (1) Cut the stretchy neck cuff part out trimming it as close to the cuff as possible.  (2) Trim the sleeves off all the way to just before the seam where they attach to the rest of the shirt.

Voila!

Baseball Halter

A little tee perfect for those days of alien watching!

Materials:

   - baseball jersey

   - sewing machine

   - sewing supplies

Instructions:

Beginning with the back of the collar, cut out excess t-shirt material. Measure and mark all distances before cutting to prevent crooked lines.

Fold hems over twice and sew.

Insert elastic in the back hem (between your shoulder blades). Pull tight and sew elastic into the sides of the shirt. The shirt will look puckered when you're not wearing it. The elastic helps the back of the shirt to stay in place.

These Boots Were Made for Painting!

by Selma Yalazi
(http://www.craftygal.com/images/cgwinter2003/tableW03.jpg)
Tired of the same black boots year after year? I certainly was before I got this amazing idea. Paint! You know you can transform a room to look new with a little paint, well why not hit your shoe closet with the same concept? I found that the fabric paint works best and looks best on suede-like materials instead of smooth leather or patent leather. After gathering your materials, grab a piece of paper and a pencil and sketch out designs that you see yourself wearing this season!!

Materials:

Suede-like leather shoes

Old rag / shoe brush

Water bottle

Paper

Pencil

White eyeliner

Assorted colors of fabric paint (Tulip brand)

Assorted sizes of paint brushes

Directions:

1. After gathering all of your materials into one place, clean off your boots using an old rag or shoe brush. Make sure it is clean and ready for paint. If you need to spray water on it to get dust and dirt off make sure it is completely dry before proceeding.

2. Grab your pencil and paper and make some quick sketches of the design that you intend to paint on your shoes. You will need to be able to draw this on your shoe, so don’t get too elaborate unless you are sure that you will be able to create it free hand on your boot.

3. Using the white eyeliner, transfer your design onto your boot. It’s okay to make mistakes; you can use a wet rag to wipe it off.

4. Here is the fun part! Start to fill in your design using your fabric paints and the paintbrushes. If you have never used fabric paint, practice, practice, practice on an old piece of cloth before painting your boots. Be sure to try some new techniques with your paints like mixing some white paint into the colors.

5. Your boots will be ready to wear in 72 hours, but to be safe wait a week. You don’t want to ruin your beautiful fashion creation!

A BOY PROJECT
CEREAL GIFT BOXES
Give Gift Wrapping Some Snap, Crackle, and Pop
by Annna Rosenlund

We all know how Pollyanna wrapping paper can be, but the novelty of using last Sunday’s comics has worn thin. Instead, try using the colorful cereal and frozen-pizza boxes clogging up your recycling bin. From Tony the Tiger to Tony Roma’s, these are the unsung heroes of gift wrap. Not only will your gifts be sugarcoated, but eliminating store-bought paper that gets tossed away like a prom dress after one use will make youa better person. You do want to be a better person, don’t you?

TEMPLATE
http://www.readymademag.com/Images/box_template.pdf

Make It:
1) Unfold the box of your choice, being careful not to tear it. A large cereal box with wide sides works best. Xerox the template (above) to the size you want, and use a pencil to trace the outline onto the inside of the box. Or, if you’re really confident, invent your own pattern. If you can, try to align the box’s creases with the pattern’s fold lines.

2) Cut out the pattern along the trace lines using a straight edge and an X-acto knife. On the printed side of the cardboard, lightly score the edges where the box will fold.

3) Fold the printed side of the box around the gift. You won’t need any adhesive, as tension should hold the flaps in place.

4) Decorate the box with ribbon, twine, or something more unusual, like strips of window screen or soft wire mesh (available at art supply stores). The silver mesh is a great complement to the raw look of the cardboard. Use a snap to hold the mesh together. Push the male side of the snap through the mesh at one end of the strip and sew or glue into place, then snap the female side in with the opposite end of the mesh sandwiched between.

5) Glue an old button, army man, or other bauble to the top of the snap. That’s a wrap.

oooo here's an idea i've had since forever, but never have had the time to do: the VC tshirt i bought from the concert i went to is 34534534543 sizes too big. And i have a jean skirt that i never wear. SO, i'm going to tear the middle out in the shape of a triangle (kind of like how some skirts are looking, you know?) and put the writing on the tshirt in the middle. It 's the Be Not Nobody t shirt, so i'm going to cut around the phrases, and then sew them to more of the tshirt fabric, and then sew that on to the triangle. Then i'm going to take white fabric paint, and paint different band lyrics that i love. not just vc, but other ones as well, like 3eb, TBS, etc.

oooh and i'm going to make a tshirt that says "C'est La Vie" on the front. it's going to be black with white lettering. and i'm going to make a rooney one with "Smooth Operator" on it, same style as the first one.

Now, i have to find the time, and a sewing machine, to do this....
