i am seriously sooo scared about applying to college! there is soooo much to do, its crazy. we talked about college applications in my religion class and i went to an extra session at lunch. just hearing whats going to be happening scares me... requesting the applications, the essays, the peer/student/parent/teacher reccomendations, the interviews, the rejection/acceptance (hopefully the latter of the 2, haha) letters... it's overwhelming! oh, and then SATs on top of that, along with the regular stresses of senior year and my 8 classes, 3-7 hours of homework a night and like 7-9 tests a week.
lol... i just had to vent! this can be the college applying frustrations venting thread! haha

Dont be scared  it will all work out, it took me 6 months to figure out what i wanted to do at college.
You will be fine if you just breatheee (lol).
Good luck holls

thanks Katie... yeah, i do need to breath (lol) and take it one step at a time but i just get scared when i look at everything i need to do all together... the seniors that have gone to my school before me say this is the hardest year ever. where at most schools teachers are supposed to be kind to you so you can concentrate on college! not mine... lol

Not everyone HAS to know what they're going to do with the rest of their life when they're not even 20 or so...
The world always says keep your children safe from the issues of grownup life. Then when you hit 17-18-19, they just throw ya out there and expect ya to like it.
ahhhhhhhh
*head explosde* :microwave:

Yeah it is tough, but the sooner you start the process the less stressful it will be. The most difficult part is just writing the essays and getting the recommendations, but I am sure you are a good student so that shouldn't be too hard
-
thanks Danny, Ms. Redd and Brian!
well i'm pretty sure i know what i want to do... but the problem i'm having is how i'm sposed to get there and college is a big step so i'm worried about it... but cant wait for it at the same time!

College is fun!
And the SATs are easy...don't sweat it.
-
I hear ya hun! I'm goin through the same thing but im sort of excited too, just to get outta this small town and do something with my life! :D You'll be fine i'm sure, you dont have to know what you wanna do right now, you can always just take some lib arts courses until you decide and as for SAT's some colleges dont even base their decisions very highly on those scores, some do but as long as you do semi-decent you'll be fiiiiine. I'm going to make some college visits in the next couple weeks, i have it narrowed down to 3 now. lets just hope i get in hehe. but good luck with everything and it'll all go just fine, even tho i know it can be reaaally stressful.
-
egh holly i know all too well how you feel. but, in a few months, it will be over, and the only thing you'll have to worry about is whether your college roommate will be a freak or not. Just take it one thing at a time
:)

Don't worry Venti. Get recommendations from teachers you know really like you and do well in the SAT. Your GPA pretty much takes care of itself by senior year. Just make sure your essay points out why YOU are an asset that the college can't live without. In other words, BS them about how essential you are to their campus. LMFAO
Even if you don't get in just transfer in from CC. It's not a big deal. That's what I was gonna do if UCLA didn't accept me since that's the only college I wanted to go to and the only one I applied to.
-
does CA have a website?
NC has www.CFNC.org so maybe there is one for cali. There you fill out one application and it saves your information and you use the same information etc.
-
Or if your GPA and SATs are high enough, you don't even have to worry about an essay. That's what happened for me.
-
my sat and gpa are ok... but nothing to brag about.
i think the essay will be what helps me... my essay is the thing that made my highschool notice me and accept me (the only take about 10% of people who wanna go there) and people tell me i'm good at writing personal essays... so i think that'll help me
-
See I suck at essays...so I needed the GPA :D

Exaaaactly... It's really not a lot different than high school except college is all hyped up to you while your in high school. You will look back at your freshman year of college like you will look back at your freshman year of high school. You will think "why was I so worried over nothing?".
-
hey sweetie.. if you need help let me know. I would be happy to help you with your essay. Still applying to my school?
-
thanks nikkee!!!
yeah... i could use help, lol, i dont know what to write about!! i'll take any hints
i would do anything to go to your school.. but i have no chance whatsoever of getting in... lol, but it's been my dream to go there forever! lol... i was raised a trojan! lmao, my bird is even named Traveler, and one of my first toys was a white horse that played fight on when you wound it up

if it helps any, i just visited a college, and the dean of admissions came to speak. he said that the applications that really get the most attention are the ones that stand out the most. he gave some examples of what he meant, like one year an essay was: you're on a stranded island and a crate washes up, what 5 things are in it? so one kid sends the essay in a crate. creative things like that will help you get in.
but don't worry too much, i'm sure you'll get in anywhere holly! you're smart, and most importantly, determined, which is all you need!
-
lol... i wish i was creative like that! i heard one year someone sent a beautifully decorated shoe to NYU who was applying for their fashion program and it had a note on it "now that i have one shoe in the door, i'd like to get the other one in".
-
lol that 's funny, becuase another story that the dean told us was that someone made a mold of their foot and wrote their entire essay on it, with an attached note: "i just wanted to get my foot in the door".
that's the college (not nyu, the one i visited, SUNY Geneseo) i want to get in to, so i figured that since i'm good at Tatting, i'd make a doily or something like that for them in the school colors. Just think of some of your talents, and work with it. Like, if you are good at song writing, write a song about how much you want to get in to that college, record it, and send it with your application. don't worry, i'm sure you'll think of something!
-
thanks for the ideas! :)
i'll think about what i can do...
-
ooo... lol, and creative essays sometimes can help!
i heard of this person who wrote a whole essay about how she had eaten mexican and chinese food before going on a roller coaster and it was a battle about which one would be thrown up first... lol. and this person got in
-
haha sounds like it would be an interesting essay to read
-
yeah! it does
