lol, haven't heard of that one.
it snows pretty good here like 3 times a year, but our school district is so cracked up that they never call a snow day. at least, they haven't for the past 3 years....
it sucks big time cuz we're like the only school that has school when it snows hard

toboganning...hello!!! sledding sounds so awkward...I'd never use it.
-
ummm this is how i've always thought of it
sledding is when you use a SLED to go down a hill.
toboggining is when you toboggin down a hill ummmm a toboggin is a thing right?? or like you use something as a toboggin like an inflatible doughnut
its only called sledding is you use a sled.
:?
i donno, someone look toboggin up in the dictionary... i think its different than a sled :|
-
It is SLEDDING..
And we sled at the huge hill at the high school, which is where the glacier stopped.
Long Island is a glacial deposit as you may know ;D

'Sledding' ..... except in my hick town we never say sledding, we say sled. (ie: "hey, do you want to go sled?) dont' ask me why, that's just how people say it. it's not even a new york thing, it's just in my town.
sleddings fun, but i prefer snow tubing. aaaaaaah so much fun :D

Sledding is when you go down a hill on a sled.
Tobogganing is when you go down a hill in a tuque. 8)
Seriously, tell me you're going tobogganing, and I'll wish you well and hope you don't crack your head on a rock or a tree or something. It's much safer to wear a helmet anyway. :P
-
For Andrew.......
This is a toboggan - A long, narrow, runnerless sled constructed of thin boards curled upward at the front end.
And this is a sled - A light wooden frame on runners, used by children for coasting over snow or ice.

I call them toques.....They call them Toboggans apparently
-
I knew how to spell toque. It's French - Like Alex.
-
is it french? I dunno...
-
Mhm! 'Cause of thw Q-U-E at the end pronounced like the "kuh" (K) sound, that's how I know it's French.
-
Toboggan is French for "slide", but I call it sledding. :)
-
i call it sledding, lol
-
Mhm! 'Cause of thw Q-U-E at the end pronounced like the "kuh" (K) sound, that's how I know it's French.
that only means it may be romanized into french...like quebec...its some iroquois word meaning village...that the french people first put in the roman alphabet..I think toque is probably the same..its weird though because the "to" part is pronounced "too" but in french toque would be like toke (hehe). toboggan definitely isn't french methinks lol.
-
i was pronouncing it in my head toke...
i think the canadian accent adds the too.
-
toke? I dont have an accent (I think...thats more in the east where they're all oot and aboot) and I don think I come close to pronouncing it like that. but maybe the people who came up with it had an accent and so its been passed on that way! yes! mystery solved!
-
Actually, it's tuque. Toque is cool, too, but it's pronounced differently and usually refers to a slightly different hat. Go to tuque (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=tuque) and toque (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=toque) in the M-W dictionary for more information.
-
It depends. Are you riding on a sled or a toboggan? They are two very different things!! 8)
-
I thought it was Tuba Boggin' ?
It sure was fun when I went!!! I loved it. :D
-
