Title: Old Folks
Post by: loveplasticlove on October 26, 2003, 01:02:40 pm
You know... they crack me up.

I have a Marilyn Manson sticker on my car.  And my grandmother took me to the side one day and told me that she is worried about me.  She thinks that my sticker is an open invitation for satanists to come kidnap me and use me in their satanic rituals.

hahah

ha ha ha this made me chuckle.

Your gramma sounds like a hoot. I'd probably get a kick outta the things she'd say.

But yes, Satanists will kidnap you for their Satanic rituals so please darling, paint over that sticker.

JK!

Old people think they can do WHATEVER they want! They think "this generation" is full of nothing but psychos and stuff!

And they tend to be racist.  8O

I <3 my grandpa. The most dignified and wise man I know. It's rather inspiring. He was crippled early in life and they didn't think he'd live past 15.

He had to drop out of school in 4th grade because of his sickness. He was also discouraged from education because it wasn't the appropriate thing for "a poor cripple" to do. He went on to graduate from college with an English degree, despite his lack of a complete elementary or high school education.

He became an English teacher. He worked for a few years and he became a school counselor. Later still, he went on to become principal of my high school.

I just look at him and I think that I would have wimped out if I had faced the struggles he faced. He has an interesting view on all his troubles. He relates to the biblical story of Paul and the "thorn." It was some pain he was inflicted with. Paul prayed three times to have God remove it. It remained. Then God told Paul that he had this "thorn" to keep him humble. My grandpa firmly believes that this is true with him as well.

Not all old people are crazy. In fact, I think most of them are rather cool. They have interesting stories to tell. If you dismiss them as "old, crazy, intolerant, and racist," you miss out on who they are. Judge people on what they are as a whole, not one factor that has become overblown in today's society.

That is a good question Si... I have no idea. :)  I think it depends on every person.  Some people are out of it at 65 and some aren't.

Yea its tough having a very religious family, if you are not really religious.  Being an atheist makes me the black sheep of the family along with my gay cousin.

lol...I went to the symphony with my grandfather...and the maestro or whatever was making a speech and said "I'm glad to see that so many young people have showed up and taken a break from their marilyn manson music for a moment to come appreciate classical music. Perhaps someday I'll repay you by taking a break from classical music to listen to some of her stuff." everyone laughed at him except my grandpa who was just confused....

sorry had to share..:D

It's funny...when I go to the symphony... about 60% of the people are under 25. I think lots of these people realize that some music is timeless. I mean.. all the crap hasn't survived through the ages. It's also interesting to study it and consider it part of the evolution of music.

We actually have a pretty decent symphony. I remember two years when they did Beethoven's 9th Symphony in D Minor, Op. 125 (Choral). 500 person choir for the fourth movement.... wow.
