Post by: Si on November 01, 2003, 11:21:52 am
can anyone tell me what to do when my pc starts "norton email scanner" everytime I turn it on, and then says "sending your email now" ?
I don't know how it got this way, I didn't do anything different than usual...

Norton! It's a PC Virus Scanning program! I think.

I don't know what to tell you . . . I don't know what to do.

Sorry Si.

Well, I have Norton, yes
But that scans once a week (Thursdays at 5pm, to be exact ;) ).
This is very different from that. I also keep getting emails that have names from people I know in the addresses, but the addresses aren't completely correct. And they say that I keep sending them 'emails infected with a virus'
There's always an attachment in the email (which I have learned not to open)

I don't think I have a virus, bc other than the email-scanning program, the pc works normally...

Thanks anyway
:)

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Add/Remove programs

look for norton antivirus or anything having to do with norton, remove it

go to http://www.download.com and look up Avast, its an antivirus program thats completely free, download that and install it.

you dont have some stupid startup scan and you are protected from viruses

if it doesnt work PM me i know more ways to end your problem

Thank you very much
I've installed it, and when I rebooted, it started to scan, found 3 infected files and deleted them.

There is this cool program called Spybot Search & Destroy.  It removes all sorts of spybot software.  I would highly recommend downloading and running it.  I'm very careful with my PC and it still found like 3 things.

I've installed Spybot S&D
I also have AdAware, but I don't think that should cause any problems
I did get a popup, saying that AdAware can react to Spybot, but that can be ignored
What I don't like is that it says :"Use at own risk!"
Skurry

I am scanning now, and it already found almost 20(!) things.........

*removing now.....ok, nice

Thanks, Kat!
