Normally I really don't go gonzo over college football, I just kind of watch to see who is what, who is good, etc. ... but now I am being forced to cheer for USC and for Michigan to put a large boot mark in Ohio State's National Championship Hopes because the BCS is like "No, Ohio State is better than USC! (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1664119)" even though frankly that is a bunch of crap because it isn't USC's fault that the teams they play aren't ranked considering that everyone in their confrence besides them and Washington State (who they dominated) has fallen on their face, and Notre Dame and Hawaii who should be good decided to be bad.

I hate the BCS. I think the B stands for something else, but we'll leave it at that

Post by: B on November 17, 2003, 05:38:10 pm
I have no problem with Oklahoma. They blow people out even worse than USC does. Ohio State wins because of effort and mistakes by the other team. They've not scored an offensive touchdown in three games this year and won all three, that is a credit to their defense but still. The fact that their linebacker cheated to take Jim Sorgi out of the game still pisses me off, and the fact that I never liked Maurice Clarett to begin with doesn't help matters any ... granted he isn't playing this year but still, lol.

I honestly think USC is the better team and has played better football and that is what it comes down to

LSU is getting screwed over.

Hmm... let's see, USC lost to Cal.  They lost to CAL!!!!!!!
LSU's lone loss is to Florida--a team ranked in the top 15 of the BCS.  They also play in a MUCH tougher conference than that wimpy ass Pac-10.

LSU has had a good season. Unfortunately for them they are getting done in by the same thing that USC was going to fall victim to: stregnth of schedule.

September 13 Hawaii  W 61-32
September 27 at California  L 34-31
October 4 at Arizona State  W 37-17
October 11 Stanford  W 44-21
October 18 at Notre Dame  W 45-14
October 25 at Washington  W 43-23
November 1 No. 6 Washington State  W 43-16
November 15 at Arizona  W 45-0
November 22 UCLA  W 47-22
December 6 Oregon State  4:30 PM ET Tickets

LSU

September 6 at Arizona  W 59-13
September 13 Western Illinois  W 35-7
September 20 No. 7 Georgia  W 17-10
September 27 at Mississippi St.  W 41-6
October 11 Florida  L 19-7

I've read that if Notre Dame would have beaten Syracuse or Hawaii had beaten Boise St. that USC would have won.

A shame that four teams that no one cares about have such an impact on the national championship...

Yeah, because Syracuse won that screwed ND's value as an opponent for USC ... and I dont know how in the hell Boise State and Hawaii figured into things, but it is true that Boise State also helped LSU in the computers.

The death nell was the fact Oklahoma fell to #3 in both polls because USC needed the extra point.

Ah. I hate SOS.

I had an idea though about the BCS...

It would be kind of cool to bring back margin of victory but have it balance with SOS. So if you have a bad schedule stregnth, but you blow people out like you should, it shouldn't hurt you. However, if you have a tough schedule but only win all of your games by 3 points, it shouldn't hurt you either unless someone with a similar schedule stregnth outperformed you.... I dunno, just an idea.

It would be like a combined rating SOS - MOV = SOS/MOV rating, which I think would be a little more fair than just going on SOS, since it would benefit everyone.

Unless I'm mistaken, most of the computers that used MOV in their rankings back before it was taken out used that kind of system.

I've got another good idea about the BCS.  Throw it out the freakin' window.

Have a playoff.  Every single sport the NCAA offers--including football in I-AA, DII, & DIII--carries a playoff.

lol, Steve, no rubbing it in our faces. Have you looked at the bruins? theyre not even in the top 25! lol. sorry, but your football team sucks. (sorry, lol, luv ya, but i couldnt resist).
USC is the #1 in the AP poll and the coaches poll. about the BCS poll... get rid of the C in it... and that sums it up right there! about 3/4's of people think that USC deserves to be in the sugar bowl more than LSU and Oklahoma! the whole bowl system is messed up this year and the results wont mean much.
but i guess on the bright side the rose bowl is literally 5 minutes from my house (i see it everyday) and it'll be easy to go to the game.

Oh... My...
Now that was an insane game!!! I went over to my boyfriend's fraternity house to watch it because my sisters were watching something else on our TV. Now, my bf decided to root for the Irish, so we sat on opposite sides of the room and I gave him evil glares the entire time! I about had a heart attack it was soooo intense! When they won I screamed so loud, my throat still hurts! All of the brothers watching the games were rooting for the Irish, so when USC won they kept telling him to break up with me. It was rocky for a second but we're cool now!

Texas shouldn't have won. That one touchdown shouldn't have counted. Bah.

i think i saw the TD you're reffering to, and even if it wasn't counted, it would still have been 1st down and Texas most likely would have scored anyway.

Seconded.  I'm not sure that missed call made much of a difference.

USC squandered some golden opportunities.  You take the points early.  Don't go for it on short yardage when you're not desperate.

USC lost that game on some bad play calling by the coach, and some bravado by the QB.

yea... Pete's coaching wasnt that great that game! I was there and there was A LOT of dissapointment!
But if there had to be a game to end their winning streak, atleast it was that one! That was close!!!
