Yeah! Then afterwards I could dress up as Aragorn and re-enact the final battle against my friends dressed up as orcs! ... uh oh... Have I said too much?

Seriously though, The downside is that the bar is raised too high for any post-LOTR film. Even if there was an equally detailed and equally genius piece of source material, you've got to find somebody who can translate it to film without ruining it. Never going to happen again. They might as well close down every cinema after December. Matrix what?

I saw it tonight.... *speechless*

A beautiful ending to a GREAT epic!

Quick note however... In pt3 when the soldiers ride out from the city on the suicide run, they pass by some children, the human child in the foreground is the same totally cute hobbit kid in pt1 that sits there while Bilbo reads the story. The kid is all  8O and is the cutest thing!

there were places in that movie where they should have just ended it right there and like did a fade out you know? but no, they just kept the story going, and going and going. they should have cut that last 20 min out because it was just a bunch of blaaaaaaaaah. otherwise, i thought the movie was amazing. awesome scenery and special effects.

and as for all the endings... after living with these characters for the past 3 years, they've earned the proper sendoff for each character the way they did. I loved it.

Title: SHOULD HAVE BEEN LONGER! :)
Post by: Wonkies on December 22, 2003, 10:55:13 am
(WARNING:  THIS POST CONTAINS SCENES THAT WERE NOT IN THE MOVIE, BUT WERE IN THE BOOK.  HOWEVER, IT MAY CONTAIN PLOT SPOILERS! So, if you haven't read the book and you're planning on seeing it and don't want to know anything, then don't read my post!)

The movie was incredible!  Best movie EVER!!!  However, for those who thought the movie was too short, it actually should have been longer and I wish it was.  If you haven't read the book here are a few things that were missing from it.:  At the end of ROTK there is a whole chapter in the book titled "The Scouring of the Shire" where the Hobbits go back and find the Shire a mess.  They then discover that Saruman and Wormtongue, after being banished from Isengard, had taken over the Shire and corrupted many of the hobbits there. With the help of "the heroes" the Hobbits rally up against Saruman and Wormtongue then Wormtongue ends up killing Saruman.  Wormtongue is then promptly killed by Hobbits.  From what I have heard, they didn't even film "The Scouring" so it won't even be in the extended DVD.  I'm bummed about that because I was looking forward to seeing that entire chapter on screen, but I thought the movie was absolutely awesome anyway!  There is also a whole bunch of stuff that goes on between Faramir and Eowyn which results in them falling in love and getting married, which would have been cool to put in, but not absolutely necessary.  If anyone noticed it, that's why you see them standing together, smiling at each other, in that ceremony at the end.  Like I said, I thought the movie was incredible, but as a fan of the book I do wish they would not have left a lot of this out.

I think that is Peter Jackson's little kid (according to a documentary I saw).

She's also in The Two Towers with all of the women and children in the caves at Helm's Deep.  I thought that was pretty screwy that you see the same kid in different roles in all three movies, but she is cute as a button!  lol!  I suppose that's why she's so noticeable.

I finally saw the first one thanks to Joe last week. I did see the second and just got back from the third. I liked the third one the best. It was really good. It totally didn't seem like three hours except when I needed to pee about the last half hour.

My brother also read the books Joe and he was telling us about all the other things that happened.

I am so glad that I didn't see them all until now. Waiting that long for the third would have killed me.

Sweet. According to theonering.net the extended version of ROTK has 55 minutes of extra scenes :-D

They're still going to wait until Novemeber to release it though. Why? There's nothing to hype anymore (that is, unless C is right).

I thought the movie was okay, I'm not a big fan of those fantasy movies or whatever.

I love Elijah Woods and Sean Astin so that made the movie great, I liked the casting and the scenery, which I think took place in New Zealand which is a very beautiful place.

A funny thing I found on some message board, I thought I'd share.

Things not to do while watching Return of the King

1. Stand up halfway through the movie and yell loudly, "Wait... where
the hell is Harry Potter?"

2. Block the entrance to the theater while screaming: "YOU SHALL NOT
PASS!" - After the movie, say "Lucas could have done it better."

3. Play a drinking game where you have to take a sip every time someone says: "The Ring."

4. Point and laugh whenever someone dies.

5. Ask everyone around you if they think Gandalf went to Hogwarts.

6. Finish off every one of Elrond's lines with "Mr. Anderson."

7. When Aragorn is crowned king, stand up and at the top of your lungs sing, "And I did it.... MY way...!"

8. Talk like Gollum all through the movie. At the end, bite off someone's finger and fall down the stairs.

9. Dress up as old ladies and reenact "The Battle of Helms Deep" Monty Python style.

10. When Denethor lights the fire, shout "Barbecue!"

11. In TTT when the Ents decide to march to war, stand up and shout "RUN FOREST, RUN!"

12. Every time someone kills an Orc, yell: "That's what I'm Tolkien about!" See how long it takes before you get kicked out of the theatre.

13. During a wide shot of a battle, inquire, "Where's Waldo?"

14. Talk loudly about how you heard that there is a single frame of a nude Elf hidden somewhere in the movie.

15. Start an Orc sing-a-long.

16. Come to the premiere dressed as Frankenfurter and wander around looking terribly confused.

17. When they go in the paths of the dead, wait for tense moment and shout, "I see dead people!"

18. Imitate what you think a conversation between Gollum, Dobby and Yoda would be like.

19. Release a jar of daddy-long-legs into the theater during the Shelob scene.

20. Wonder out loud if Aragorn is going to run for governor of
California.

21. When Shelob comes on, exclaim, "Man! Charlotte's really let
herself go!"

 :D

I saw Fellowship in 2002, I later got the Extended Edition DVD, it's more or less really boring talking scenes, but the action is alright. (6.5 out of 10)

Just got done with The Two Towers Extended and it's pretty good.  Less talk, more action. Nothing to really go crazy over. (8 out of 10)

I got a screener of Return of the King from BitTorrent and I'll watch that soon. I have to wait 'til around X-Mas for the Extended Edition of that one

this is what I'll be getting:

New Line has announced that the 4-disc Special Extended DVD Editions of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King will all be available in a single box set on 12/14 (SRP $119.97). So if you haven't gotten them yet, here's the perfect chance. Basically, the three separate 4-disc sets will be packaged together in a new outer slipcase. There's nothing new in this release - no exclusive bonus discs or anything. This is just a way to sell all the Extended Editions in one package for those who may wish to purchase them that way.

I've been counting on this from the start, which is why I held off on buying the others. I have the theatrical Pt1, & screener of Pt2.
I cant wait! Fanboy dreams come true, in a nice boxset.

 I just hope you didn't strangle someone for it

I got the extended editions of FoR and TT for the past two Christmases, and so this year I'm finishing it out with Return of the King, extended edition. 50 minutes of extended scenes, etc....that puts the final run time somewhere around 4 hours and 20 mins, doesn't it?  :D

Does the full trilogy, extended edition boxset come with anything extra, or does it just package all three extended editions together?

While I'm not as.. enthusiastic about the LOTR EP Trilogy release, (Star Wars owns you) it is something I'll sit and watch all day.

Hey Beevee,
Did you notice a watermark around 21'32" of the movie?
I've seen the capture on some message boards about regions 2 & 4 dvds but they're not sure about region 1.
The watermark says "821" in a white font at the top-right of Gandalf's head.
They already did that with the 3rd Harry Potter on dvd...

Soo it turns out they're releasing ANOTHER edition of the LOTR trilogy:

The folks over at Home Media Retailing have received details on new releases of Peter Jackson's  Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King will each arrive in newly packaged two-disc “Limited Edition” sets, along with an exclusive new behind-the scenes documentary. Each set will carry both the theatrical and extended versions of the film (via seamless branching), while disc two features an intimate, never-before-seen documentary created by Costa Botes. The feature-length documentaries, with more than 300 minutes of never-before-available footage, focus on a number of complexities and circumstances and affected the making of the movies. The discs will be available to own from the 29th August, priced at around $28.98 a piece.

I already have both 2 disc and 4 disc-editions so I doubt I will double-dip again!
I'm just curious to see how interesting that new documentary is though...
