Title: Where does it say that you have to have been born in the U.S

to be president?? I have this Canadian friend that doesn't believe me and I'm having a hard time looking it up but I know it's sooooo true. Anyone want to help me?

The Constitution, Article 2, section 1

"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of Presdent; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained tot he Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

so that means...you have to have been born in the US to be president...and to get into the 3 branches you have to have been a legal citizen for 14 yeas??

that's what it says. but i was thinking like, you could be born say in Germany but register as a US citizen and then you could run for president after you've been a citizen for 7 years. maybe that's just for governor or something....

maybe if your parents live and are citizens of the US and you were born in Germany, you'd still be a US citizen (unless they don't want you to be?)...

oh I forgot all this stuff, took it a year ago.

I thought as long as you were a citizen you could run for president?


im not too big on politics but thats what i thought,,,,not like it matters what i think, im a citizen and i was born here, and im sure as hell not running for president!

hehe.. nope u have to be born here to run for president.. but for other things like governor you can just be a naturalized citizen.. like arnold schwarzenegger

Yeah i just typed it into msn and thats what it says...madeliene albright(sp) was upset that she could only run for offices and not for president...screw her anyways  :razz:
