Post by: TSE on January 12, 2004, 03:29:40 pm
Serg got his call back.  His training begins Feb. 13 so he has to be in Morristown before then.

Quote
The Seeing Eye/4-H Puppy Raising Program is a joint effort of The Seeing Eye and the 4-H Youth Development Program. Generally, participants are children ages nine to 19, and adults, especially retired adults. The Seeing Eye breeds its own German shepherds, Labrador retrievers and Golden retrievers and Lab/Golden cross. We are always looking for families where we can place our puppies. The puppy needs to stay in your home until it is approximately 14-16 months of age. During the puppy's stay in your home, you will provide guidance and direction in the puppy's development. You will teach the puppy basic obedience commands and expose the puppy to the world in which it will eventually work. You will also provide lots of love, attention, discipline and encouragement for the puppy, and create the foundation for the dog's formal training as a Seeing Eye dog. You will learn how to do all these things from our staff and by attending local puppy club meetings and puppy trips with other club members. Puppies are placed with families in New Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Warwick, NY. Due to geography, if you live outside of these areas you will not be eligible to participate as we will not be able to adequately support you throughout the process from such a distance.

Really, Holly?  That's funny everywhere I go seems to have some connection to it.  We just got our kitchen re-done and one of our contractor's mother works(ed?) up in Morristown there, two of the doctors at the practice my mom works at have done it, my sister got a priest penpal at school and he rasied one as a child.  It's really funny, because until I started the program (7 days before I joind the VCMB interestingly enough!) I never heard of it.

And uhmmm, don't mean to correct you, but your friend raised a "dog guide" -- "seeing eye" dogs are like Q-Tips, a brand name.  Seeing eye dogs are all trained at the Seeing Eye in Morristown NJ, and raised in Northeastern states  (as mentioned in my quote).  "Guide dog" is a "brand name" too, they're trained by Guide Dogs of America or something. :D

FYI - today was the worst day EVER!  Not just because of Serg, but he didn't help.  I've cried 3 times already and I usually cry more at night anyway.  Not just because of Serg, but he didn't help it.

(yes I know know I just said that)

What's the deal?! Do we need to kick someone's ass? :\ If it makes you feel any better, I almost cried today 'cause the week we're supposed to go on our 8th Gr. trip, we were also supposed to go to a White Sox (or Cubs, though I prefer the Sox) game, and they're playing - Yay? - Minnesota. But, I hope your day gets better. :(

SERG IN HARNESS! (that's my family in the back, as close as we were allowed to get on the chance that he remembers us and forgets his job.

WOW.  He was soo amazing, it hard to believe that the bad little boy I raised could do that.  That, Thursday, was the last time I'll be allowed to see him.

Oh my God. That's so sad.

I'm a fool for animals. But you guys know that. I hate animal/people or animal/animal separations. I cry, always, at the beginning of "The Fox and the Hound." I also cry at "Airbud" when that asshole bitch of a kid is trying to get Bud to leave and he throws the basketball at him. And at Bambi.

I'm sorry.

Are you kidding!?  It was amazing!  There was a point where the sidewalk was getting redone and he led her around that and he helped her cross the street and WOW.
