Title: Help Starting A Site,
Post by: Blake on February 09, 2004, 09:20:54 pm
Yep, I am tired of tripod, and I really wanted to start a nice site, and I don't know what all to do..So if you smart people who know all about this stuff could give me some good links, and maybe some schooling, because tripod is pretty much my basic website knowledge..haha

Thanks :D

Step 1, learn HTML.
Visual Quickstart HTML (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0321130073/qid=1076391819//ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-1386212-4840637?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) Buy it, learn it, love it.

Step 2, get real hosting. Screw tripod, geocities and all the rest.

Then you'll be set.

shop around.
different options for different people.
I use http://www.westhost.com which is a little pricey but you get a LOT for the money. More than basic hosting.

I recomend MyDomain.com for new users.  They don't always have the most rich feature set... but they do have the most userfriendly and almost always the cheapest.  Check it out as well.

I use godaddy.com (http://www.godaddy.com) to register my domains and I get my hosting for free from nice friends with servers.

So should I go with the 7.95 package? I think it's the best for me..

EDIT:

1. Should I get Dedicated IP?
2. Do you want me to put you as a referal?
3. Does a bill come in the mail? Or am I supposed to just send the money?

If westhost is infact what you want to go with...
I'm not sure how the IP works with that package. I have a dedicated IP on mine.
Yes please use me as a referal! :D I get like a free month of hosting or something.
A lot of the billing is done electronically. You get an invoice emailed to you. You can do payments offline but it takes longer of course. I just used a ccard for mine.

I need Referral's Name, and Referral's Domain Name..It's finally like my way of paying you back for all you've helped me with..haha!! SO with all you said, basically I'd never get anything in my home mail? Because dale would flip if I got anything like that, he knows nothing..
