lol, i dunno. My parents always made him sound like a big monster who liked to kill people, so to be careful. I think it's a way to teach kids to watch out.
He has been replaced by me and my friends as the man in the red shirt now, lol.

I grew up saying, "El Cucuy" in spanish that is the 'boogieman' or whatever you want to call that big scary unknown person that scares us children.
