Cops Caught Issuing Tickets As a Contest
PORTERDALE, Ga. - A contest between two police officers in a small Georgia town to see which one could issue the most traffic tickets was stopped by a judge who overheard the apparent winner talking about it, the mayor said.
Part-time Porterdale police officers Erin Cox and Frank Jackson wrote about 150 tickets in January, which was significantly higher than in previous months, Mayor Paul Oeland said.
Some tickets were for minor offenses including not reporting an address change to the state or having defective equipment on a vehicle, it was first reported in The Covington News.
The contest was revealed when City Court Judge C. David Strickland overheard the officers talking about it recently. Oeland said "Jackson indicated he had won the contest."
"I think it was sort of bragging rights," said Oeland, a lawyer. "They would make a traffic stop for a legitimate reason and then try to find anything else they could possibly write a ticket for."
The mayor added: "It is not anything that we as a city support."
Both officers were asked to resign by Friday by City Manager Tom Fox, Oeland said. They have been with the department less than a year, he said.
Neither could be reached Friday. There was no answer at the police department.
I think the cops here do that too

haha, Cops are crooked people...I think they just become cops so they can break the laws...

that's messed UP!!! just when you think you can trust your local law enforcement depatrment... you go read a story like this. :headshake:

I really do not like cops now.. we are starting Fighting Against Discrimination skits in Drama, and i've heard so many stories how cops can just be idiots like that.. it wasn't even funny. Some cops are such idiots they are racist's.. so they give tickets out to people who don't deserve them.. what idiots. If you guys heard all the stuff i've heard about cops today in Drama, you'd hate them too. Well okay that isn't fair to say I hate all of them because they aren't all idiots, but there was this one story where I just wanted to sock that cop that someone was talking about.. sheesh, yeah just when you thought you could trust them.. these days, maybe 65% of the time you can.
That is pretty funny tho about the contest, haha what morons!

My uncle is a cop but...
It seems like whenever I ever need help from a cop they are never around but, whenever I slightly screw up (as far as not wearing my seat belt or whatever)
I get a ticket in a heartbeat. What's up with that?:!?!?!? :?

Here they play pool with cars, so they pull over more red cars than others. Or sth like that.

yeah that's a fact. My dad always told me that. I guess since it's a red car, they look at it like and think it's a race car or a "Hot Rod" or something.

Cops are also more prone to pull you over on a nice day rather than when it's rain, because when it's bad weather they don't want to get out :-P

That's why I speed more often when it's raining or something. I'm careful about it but you're right about that. My Professor, who used to be a HWY Patrol Officor said the same thing about the rain and stuff. :)

No, isn't it because the red ball appears more often in pool/snooker? Something like that anyway.
And yes, there's a boy in my tutor who wants to be a policeman- god forbid the day he becomes one- UGH he is awful! I think being a police person can attract the wrong kind of people.
